  • Hi Ken, firstly tanks a lot for a brilliant tutorial on Reaper, certainly suffice to for me to make my mind up and buy.

But please ken why can't I get the external editor to work when I double/click on my wave form..??. All I keep getting up is the 'Media Item Properties' box.

I have included my 'Audition 3' as the external editor, I would dearly love this to be able to work, can you help me pleas or anyone else for that matter

    Kind Regards

    Alan

  • Hi Jason. That actually changed in version 4! Sorry about that. Try Ctrl+Alt+E now instead.

  • Hello, I just added audacity as my editor like you did, but when I double click the waveform it pulls up a pop up that says "Media item properties" with a description of the file like take properties snap offset etc.. Any idea why? Thanks for your help!

  • @megalodonNL no worries. I was just lost in frustration of what I wanted to get or use. Too many DAW's to pick from. The best advice I've seen online is "pick a daw and stick with it!". And Reaper was my choice.

  • after i export and overwrite a notification comes up and says 'Error: is directory full or disk full?' what do i do??? help!!

  • @luis6137 Double check to see if there is a check mark in the Render (is that what you're doing when you say export?) screen that is trying to insert the rendered result into your project.

  • @megalodonNL Great advice! You are one smart guy!

  • I just got a Tascam US-800 the other day. I installed cubase le5 the program that it came with. I'm still contemplating on using cubase or getting this?

  • @mixolydian671 I can tell you that there are a BUNCH of former Cubase users in the Reaper forum:).

  • when i try to use the media explorer beats like you did for your voice. it didnt have any beats for me

  • so Reaper doesn't do audio editing?

the lesson i would take is to record in Audacity and transfer to Reaper only if you want to incorporate MIDI.

makes the traditional commercial packages look attractive again.

  • Thanks for the demo. I really like cockos' vision, and I've been pretty dissatisfied with Sonar X1 essential. There's so many awesome features in the expensive versions, but I simply can't afford them. I like the Idea of paying $60 and getting the full package. I don't really understand why you switch to audacity to do the editing though. Are those features not included in reaper?

  • @Rickles Great question, and I have since changed my mind about needing an external editor with Reaper. You're right. You can do most of the things most folks need to do as far as editing right in Reaper. I've just got such a long history of touching up the finished product in an external editor (I actually use Adobe Audition) that doing it in the DAW feels funny to me. And I still think that there are certain things some folks, especially musicians, will want to do in an editor.

  • Hi I found your tutorial very helpful. Im considering Reaper and this is taking me one step nearer to decide. Thanks

  • omg I've been using reaper for a year and i dont know how to slice.. i cut sections :D:D whats the command to slice?

  • @Detc0re Slice is done simply by putting the cursor where you want the slice and pressing the "S" button;). Knowledge is power eh;).

  • @Tpalacio79 Wow really? Nobody needs a program whose professional capabilities rival that of Pro Tools for well under $100?

  • @ gwugluud - But if you already use Cubase and/or the Boss BR-1600, it sounds like you already have the capability you need without Reaper. But folks just starting out can get the core capabilities for a lot less money by using Reaper. Just check out their site at reaper.fm

  • Wow gwugluud. I'm not sure what you mean by binging in a mixer from another program. And no, you wouldn't have to import anything from Cubase before you could use a mic to record an amp. Just open a track and point the mic and the amp.

  • This software stuff is TOO COMPLEX. You have to "bring in" a mixer from some other program? WWowwww, I'll stick with my standalones, my Boss BR-1600. Once in awhile I'll check out software...This stuff is ridiculous. Where would I even start. I'd probly have to "import" something from cubase before I could use a mic to record an amp, right? Horseshit...

  • thank you, you are the best!

  • this demo helps me a lot, thanks!

  • Thanks for the tutorial. Great job, and good info.

I'm a little confused about why an external audio editor is needed? Cant all of that be done in Reaper?

    Thanks again for the vid.

  • can u tell me wher i can get plugins with hip hop beats

  • @raheemcharles one really good one that is not really a plugin, but a stand-alone program you can use to make beats and import them into Reaper is DubTurbo. Otherwise you could use any number of virtual instrument plugins such as StormDrum, FXpansion, etc.

  • how can i record sounds coming from pc with reaper ?

  • Most useful basic tutorial I've found so far. I'ma subscribe
