Saw them live, Duvall kicked ass. Obviously he can't replace layne 100%. but that was never the point and besides, what was AIC supposed to do? Never make another album? I for one am glad they found a guy who can at least help them keep producing albums and touring live.
@jr34v3r people act like when there's a lineup change, the band should call it quits. slayer, metallica, black sabbath, deep purple, the beatles, rush, dream theater, opeth, and the allman brothers have all had lineup changes and still kept on. no, it's not the same, but like you said, it's good that they found a suitable replacement. in my opinion, keeping the band alive in the face of adversity shows that AIC are true musicians who won't let anything keep them from doing what they love doing.
I think the problem is AIC, although was made from Cantrell's idea, wad completed my Layne's vocals and that was the most distinctive part of the band. It isn't right without him, particularly when they play old stuff with DuVall.
Personally I think they should have either done a tribute act or called the band a different name and make new music that way. A lot of fans will agree that new music with Alice in Chains with Layne gone isn't right.
Duvall sounds really good on this tune. However, they should be putting some distortion on the bass through one channel playing with only one guitar imho. Keep the bass clean on the another channel. Heard bands doing that a lot lately, Check out Heaven and Hell I Live. Check out their bass distortion and you'll get what I'm saying.

i dont understand how people can criticize mike inez's bass playing..... hes flawless and adds little licks here and there, which only adds to the song in the live performance. mike starr was ok, but inez is a better musician all around. In fact, jerry wrote just about every bass line starr ever played. inez contributes much more to the band in the bass dept., and is just in general a better and nicer person all around. thats why starr left in the first place. and btw, duvall is awesome

I really think that cantrell make alice what it is. he wrote so many great songs of theirs and he is so much of laynes inspiration. layne was amazing and probs my favorite singer but this guy is pretty damn good at laynes voice, and he actually was good friends with layne. The new guy is great . I saw AIC back in the day on tour for facelift opening up for Extream so I go way back i loved them back then and I love them now. Plus the new album is CRAZY GOOD.

probably AiC's best song....next to...Man In The Box, Bleed The Freak, Them Bones, Got Me Wrong, Social Parasite, Rooster, I Know Somethin (Bout You), It Ain't Like That, Put You Down, Would?, We Die Young, Rain When I Die, Angry Chair, No Excuses, I Stay Away, Grind, Again, Over Now, Nutshell, Died, Junkhead, Sickman, Iron Gland, ROtten Apple, Fear The Voices, I Can;t Have Your Blues, Lying Season, Killing Yourself, A Looking In View, Check My Brain...Those are all great songs by AiC

I really think that cantrell make alice what it is. he wrote so many great songs of theirs and he is so much of laynes inspiration. layne was amazing and probs my favorite singer but this guy is pretty damn good at laynes voice, and he actually was good friends with layne. Not only that we get to hear a new grunge band playing again and we get to see the original 2 playig live. Hearing jerry sing nutshell for layne was one of the best live songs i have seen. stop whinging.

It occurs to me that only three people have a discision in the matter of naming their band.... and none of you nay-sayers are those three. As long as they're putting out quality tunes (as the current album is) I'll be a fan. I just hope they never "Metallica-out" on us.

The band itself is still called Alice In Chains, and all you're doing is sitting at home and whining on the internet. AIC is still going strong, and they don't care that you don't like them anymore.

I guess from now on Alice in Chains are going to develop a more "Upbeat" fanbase since DuVall has become the new vocalist. He obviously seems more jollier than Layne was, and this has caused many diehard AIC fans back in the day to not get into them anymore. Layne had an extraordinary shadow that followed him and he expressed his pain through music, which greatly influenced the real fans. To all the new people introduced to AIC, if you are the emotional type, check out their older stuff. RIP: LS

When he says river in the chorus he really needs to hold that note for a little bit longer, it sounds too rushed. Its such a tiny little thing but is a shame because the rest of the chorus is perfection. Anyway great performance! Rock on Alice!

The new guy is great . I saw AIC back in the day on tour for facelift opening up for Extream so I go way back i loved them back then and I love them now. Plus the new album is CRAZY GOOD.
