  • That's Rob Carson's stuff, right! ;) The prefix stuff in Playing Tech.

Nice job man! I'm working on the same stuff!

  • @Myggannn Yes sir! You're the only person who's ever said that haha... Good ear.

  • sweet....!!!nice one mate!is it a heeltoe technique?

  • Do you get a rebound from the beater after the heel stroke?

  • Hello Bro! You are great! amazing double bass!

Do you have each exercise written?

  • please tell me with technique with this part like : tu-tu-tu-tu

    t-ru-tu-tu-tu

    t-ru-tu-tu-tu ?

is it rlrlrlrl rrl rl rl rl rrl rl rl rl ?

  • @blackarrowrock I'm sorry man, I have no idea what you're referring to! Please be more clear in what you're asking and I'll be more than happy to explain..

  • @ruckusamukus its start since 0:48 ? i dunno how to explain it too ,like a quardrup !

  • 5:55 Oh, Sleeper... world without the sun!!!!! =)

  • Different camera angle needed so badly

  • @ruckusamuckus

Do another take with a different camera angle, pleeeeeaaaaaseeeeeee

  • I've been watching this for about a year now. Every time I do, I'm like... "Fuck me, I have a lot of practicing to do..."

    Well done mate.

  • this video opened my eyes playing a bass drum with one pedal is like playing your set with one stick. sure you can do it but you limit your creativity. Thank you for making this video. Before i saw this i thought double pedals were usesless

  • This is the absolute reference for heel toe playing, playing singles doesn't even make any sense to me anymore !!!

  • 5:55 "World Without a Sun" intro niceee

  • love it thats some badass work man....

  • new breed groove !

  • MAN YOU GOT IT!!!!! GREAT TECHNIQUE!!!

  • Awesome technique. Think you should do a vid explaining how you tackled this technique and a couple of hints and tips to attaining your mastery! \m/,

  • Nice

  • Sick! I'm trying to learn a bunch of songs from SOTM but the double pedal always kills me.

  • SO CLEAN AND CRISP! You rock, dude (:

  • The only people who disliked this video were just pissed off because they couldn't do it.

  • Do you find having a double pedal setup is better than having two separate bass drums for overall feel? I have an electric kit and use two kd120 bass triggers and two separate pedals, I just wonder if doing a double pedal like you would develop my feet more...

  • Olodum

  • dude ur like thomas lang, this is incredible!!!!!

  • anyone know any good videos where its not 'heal-toe' technique but tips on just playing singles.

  • How could anyone have the heart to dislike this? think of the effort this guy has put in to getting his feet this good! You probably have no idea nor care fucking tits

  • Its like your doing a drum roll...with your feet. Amazing.

  • this is strange man!! u don t explain how u done that diferent kind of exercices!! FUCK !!!! lol

  • So basically, I will just apply hand rudiments on the bass? Single strokes, doubles paradiddles, then I'll be good?

By the way, thanks! This inspired me to learn more. :)

Just got em' DP's last week.

  • Me gusto ..., siempre me llamo la atención la bateria y se que hay que tener estilo y hiperactividad y sobre todo excelente reflejos para tocarla bateria.

  • @Loewra827 Just get a rug/carpet and put it beneath the bass drum.

  • Wow, impressive control and technique! Sadly, 7 people are (highly) envious of your skills, haha (or don't have a clue of what's going on). Your video is packed with ideas which take months to work on - thank you for your time and this great video, serving as inspiration. 16th notes at that tempo is a piece of cake for me (drum beginner, 1 year, I practice doublebass a lot), but playing bursts/combined patterns or transitions in general is way more challenging. Back to square one...

  • @777Arky777 Wow, thank you man!

  • DUDE!! This is awesome. I have the same question as jordanjcm up there. I have to learn this!!

  • NICE FOOT WORK!!!! Looks like you got your heal toe method down to a science. What angle is your bass drum on? 45 degree angle? How's my drumming?

  • You have tremendous technique good sir! I've been trying to master the heel toe for a solid 6 months and I've had no luck, any suggestions?

  • amazing dude!!!

  • goooood technique

  • umm ur beaters are turned sideways.....

  • Ok, this was...just...amazing!

    Keep it up, drummer! :)

  • Pleas let me know how you have your spring tension and foot board height. You are phenomenal at this. I am "OK." lol. I work at it a lot. Truth is, I do not use it a lot in my playing but I still want to get better at it. You are the best I have seen. You are in complete control of the heel toe technique, even during a beat. Awsome!

  • @jordanjcm I tried to write a message to tell you what I do but you only accept messages from friends.. UGHH!! There's not enough characters in these comment fields for me to answer your question..

  • @ruckusamukus

Crap. I can not seem to figure out how to "accept messages from anyone" So frusterating. LOL

  • @ruckusamukus hm, can you tell this to me, then? XD

  • @ruckusamukus i want to know them too please let me know too :)

  • @jordanjcm

I've played 20 years and envy you, Ruckusamukus.. :O) I have a left handed DW double kick.. I couldn't afford the whole set up, so I bought the set up without the left pedal, and added the DW2000, I'd played on single bass for years. One is belt, and one is chain.. ;o) It took forever to get the tension on both pedals just right.. I believe this is a prerequisite to becoming fast and accurate. Ruckas, you rock, buddy! Cheers!!

  • Wow

  • Ok this is freakin' insane! Your technique is awesome

  • you're better with your feet than i am with my hands :/

  • honestly ive been playing for like 4 years and if you can get fast to where you want it then thats your speed i tried to push myself and i ended up breaking my head. Not to be mean or anything but all your dooing is playin the same thing and if you want to go really fast then you need a tama iron cober twin glide the tension on it is so loose its amazing.

  • @175huskey What?????????

  • @175huskey Trolling can be pretty funny, but its generally not funny when idiots try to do it. If you are not trolling, then you are even more of a moron than I currently assume.

  • @175huskey lmao, you want good response for speed...not loose sloppy shit

  • @175huskey What the hell. are you retarded? You can play just as quickly with Eliminator pedals. The only thing that could be faster than any of the typical chain and belt drives would be direct drive pedals like axis or flying dragons.

  • pdp!!

  • Waw ... You're incredible !!! =D

  • One word....just one, that's right just one.......

    BEEAASSTTT!

  • ... This is why I can't play drums. Nope... I'll just stick to my bass guitar.

  • crazy question, but im handicapped so i cant move my foot up and down for the "heel-toe" method or whatever. any way i can practice to build up speed that would compensate for the lack of movement?

  • @BobbyRep92 There's another technique called the Bostic Flat-Foot Technique. Maybe look into that? Or the Swivel Technique.. Good luck!

  • Is 5:43 Black Label by Lamb Of God??

  • I have a DW 4000 double pedal. What would be the best exercise to use when trying to learn the heel toe technique? I have jared falk's bass drum secrets dvd and understand how it works. Also, i get lots of small rebound on my kick drum when doing double bass. How can i fix that? thanks! you are amazing!!!!!!!

  • Tutorial: How to Make your neighbors kill you

  • the hell, Damn ninja i can't even see his movies

  • wicked control

  • @mellodge I know exactly how you feel :/ Longboards would be nice......... If I could afford them. Lol

  • im in love with your snare xD

  • are you doing doubles or are those single strokes?

  • sounds like drum corps bass drums

  • God I wish I had smaller feet, I'd really get into this technique. Stupid big feet and short ass pedal boards :(

  • Just realized this is Oh, sleeper's drummer lol!

  • @AldorenXIII not anymore

  • @snipea123 Unfortunately :(

  • do you have a tutorial?? excellent technique man

  • Do a thousand hexi kicks a minute!!

    :D

Seriously though, good stuff. I just wish I could get my limbs to act independantly of each other instead of my right leg/right arm both trying to play at the same g*d damned time :P

  • cool beet at 2:29

  • i just got my first set of double bass pedal "pearl P-902's" any pointers on em? besides practice cause im def gunna do that

  • On the super fast doubles I notice that the ball of your foot seems to be coming up yes no? Where are you getting the bounce with the heel down? Amazing! I'd like to get up to your speed. :)

  • What pedal is that?

  • @Trivium0rulz12

    pearl powershifter eliminator

  • incredible

  • looks like someone would be good at tap dancing!!

  • Do you prefer a double bass pedal, or tow bass'?

  • KING of doubles. Period.

  • @TheEmotiNinja That album wasn't out when he posted this video, but i know what you're saying ;)

  • What's your name? I wanna add you to my list of inspirational people....O.o

  • sheesh! whats ur tension of your peadles and bass head, it looks like absolutely perfect, i'm jealous!

  • @DerrickMP Tension on the pedals is medium; not tight nor loose. The kick head is very loose too... Probably not what you expected but it that's how I play! I like to bury the beater in the drum head and I like to feel it...

  • i bet you love Meshuggah

  • @trasker Eh, I actually don't haha.. I like some of their stuff and I definitely appreciate them, but I can't stand the monotonous music.. I'd much rather listen to a band like After the Burial or Chimp Spanner.

  • @ruckusamukus In Dreams Is a Great album by after the burial

  • BEAST.ASS.NESS.

  • Ruckasamukus, you need to try out the Coady Clutch by Billdidit!

  • do u have got long pedals, or how do u do the fucking doubles?? i dont get it really :/

  • @LOWdrumming press down your heal (making 1 kick) then kick with a heel-toe technique, the bring your feet back to heal up technique and repeat, thats one way, another way is to slide alont the bass pedal making a double kick, thats how i do it.....good luck

  • @aczeppelindc2908 but do u have in this video a longboard pedal?? coz i now kind of figured out how to do the doubles and i also can do them at a lower speed, but i have the DW3002 double pedal, and its a short one...but if i know which u had, then i know that i could do the same in a couple of months ;P *keepdrummin'*

  • @LOWdrumming im not the dude on the video, but heres some advice. If you can affort buy these, (the best, in the world) Axis, iron cobra or pearl eliminators, those are really expensive and ive just started out, i have small feet but the pearl-902 is a REALLY cheap BUT fucking exelent db pedal, its long enough and smooth enough to do both slide doubles and heel-toe doubles and it is solid quality and the rebound is smooth as a beachball girls ass!

  • @aczeppelindc2908 well, i won't buy new ones again, coz i've got my DW 3002 since christmas now...but they are very good when looking only at shortboards...and the axis ones have got direct drive, havnt they?? but what is the difference between slide doubles and heel-toe doubles??

  • @LOWdrumming slide is a little better in case u have to play on a short board, but other than that heel-toes is easier and not hard to us at high speed, also u save alot of energy. The axis ones have direct drive

  • Hey..........join my band, or else......

  • holy fucking shit your amazing check out 7887blablabla

  • How the hell is your hit hat closed while you're doing that ?

  • @flac0415 locking clutches are available.

  • @ThePongWiz

    OMG . .Trueeee

I feel like an idiot now -_____-

  • holy shit dude

  • What technique are you using?

  • I LOVE YOU

  • next time you show it,make it slower,so we can see how you do it.tnx!!

  • Please drum for my band.

  • sooooo you should totally give me some pointers that would be amazing thanks

  • Hey Matt what would you say your spring tension is at?

  • what are you doing at 2:47? just singles but changing the power of the stroke?

  • you have incredible control. I must learn how to do this before the end of the year. should be fun, i wear a size 14 in shoes

  • omg. this is like my bass drum bible xD I'ma practice til I can mimic this and then post a video on it :D so gimme like...... five? six years? xD hahha, the only thing I can do is the part from world without a sun from 5:55

  • Please make a learn video of your heel toe technique! Awesome!

  • i hav that same exact double kick pedal. Any tips on how to make my double kick pedal not squeaky? Thanks

  • Absolutely amazing!

  • I'm really impressed man! what's you spring tension? my problem is when i play heel toe it doesn't sound like a full punch... it's quite weak unlike like heel up.

  • The last 2 beats are very Veil of maya-like..

    Fucking A

  • 3:42..

    Wow...

  • 2:34..

    Wow..

  • Top notch!!

  • good job it helped a lil bit

  • dirty floor

    but clean and power doubles!

  • yeah you groove

  • is this the technique that Tim Waterson uses?

  • You are my favorite drummer man. You are my inspiration. Wish you were still with O,S... I would be honored if you checked out my videos!

  • How do you adjust your dbl bass, tight loose, very loose ? I'm having problems getting it adjusted right so i can't stay steady with it. Its like kicking someone a hundred times and my ankle and knees starts to tire out. also im setting a little lower on my set than usually do to lack of throne lol. But ya someoen send me a vid or somethign on how to adjust and set up a dbl base pedal properly.

  • Truly inspiring!

  • that's fuckin awesome you're good keep it up!

  • very nice man!! :) did you meet Gianluca Palmieri at MI? He's my teacher, 28 ys old... a couple of years he's the drummer of greg howe.. great work anyway!!

  • @KillerDrummer88 I never did but I DEFINITELY know who he is... I've talked with him through e-mail a few times.. absolutely amazing drummer

  • @ruckusamukus yep he's quite good :) ...how did you develope such a good volume and power on doubles with feet? you use heel toe with a little of slide too? So you really think it as a stroke with the heel, like the whole leg, and then a push with the toes? thx!

  • @KillerDrummer88 hey go ahead and e-mail me at mattdavisdrum@gmail.com ...it'll be a little easier to talk there

  • @ruckusamukus eheh thanks a lot, I'm writing to ya ;)

  • DRUMS KICK ASS

  • you should do a cover of Becoming by pantera

  • @drummin4InTheShadows hahah! i have one but it's super old to i removed it... i can def play that kick pattern though! it's one of the best

  • is it an apologize for not being able to heel toe tech. that my feet are just to big?

    PS: i have 12

  • @bunnyboybxb no unfortunatly it isn't, cause you're not realy using your heel to give a stroke, it's more the middle of your foot. look some close up vids so you can see how it's done. But with that you need to practice very very much.

  • @BoomHaaften dude, you're the only person i've ever seen say that besides myself.. wow.. i can't believe it haha

  • my pedals are chain driven, is that what is stopping me from heel toe'ing my slave pedal?

  • dude, honestly, how can you do that? I have never used a double bass pedal but with my single I just find it hard enough to do them out of time

    just simply awesome

  • I have a question =) Do You leave your quad beater into the head ??

  • @Nedral i sure do.. i call it "burying the beater".. it's either that, or playing "off the head".. I would MUCH rather bury it..

  • @ruckusamukus I understand. I have the same double pedal as You, but I still have the problem with control the "bouncing" beaters. I used to play "off the head" and maybe this is the problem. Anyway thanks a lot !! =)

  • how did you learn to control your feet independently from your hands?

  • @benpalm1 much practice my friend!!!!!!!!!!!

  • very nice, you got your double strokes under control :-). how long did it take before you got this fast?

  • @StephanNoens it took about 6 months of 20 minute practice sessions... per day.. and JUST feet.. then do your regular practice routine

  • LOve your band bro! also, what kind of pedal is this?

  • Wow... Really.

  • i got the same pedal

  • I hear a lot of marching percussion influence ?

  • dude your ill, how much did your pedals cost you?

  • That groove at around 2:15...insane, is that 3 over 5? It feels like its based on a sextuplet feel.

  • @tapirdrummer haha i'm glad you mentioned that groove! it's actually just 7/8 against 4/4..

  • Great

  • What kind of double pedal do you use?

  • dam dude you got mad skill.

  • 6:00 world without a sun!! NICE!!

  • Wow! I dont play drums (but I've always wanted to learn how) and I find this to be incredible! I can't hardly even comprehend how you do it! Nice job!

  • daaaamn really nice exercises i would never thought off :) will try them myself asap :) although i do not understand or use heeltoe but after that vid i will give it a try

    on 7:11 OMG fuckin' nice

  • This guy would be incredible with axis pedals, or something with a light beater and bigger footboard.

  • @mrTooKanSam Correction, EVEN more incredible.

  • How do you hand blast so fast? Or was that with two hands around 5:10 or so..

  • ftw!!

  • BAD ASS DUDE!! I'm a newbie drummer and i just started to try the heel toe technique, and its friggin sweet how easy it is.. i gotta work on my left foot. i think its retarted, haha! anyways, just wanted to say this is sweet man! thanx!!!

  • how do you do it so fast??!!?

  • @lol8this8is8fun heel toe and muscle build up

  • excellent and precise exercises executed within interesting grooves instead of boring meaningless routines...WELL DONE!!!!!

  • Amazing. I wish I could play like you.

  • why do i see 3 pedals?

  • @withrootsabove You obviously can't see the hi-hat stand coming from the pedal.......

  • very smooth drumming, smooth as drinking down a bud light ....thanks for posting this,

  • damn, man you are too good
