  • Thank you for your time and effort doing this tutorial, slorpthegillman. It will help me a lot

  • This is a great tutorial but I can't figure out how to do with with CS3 :( Is it possible with an older version of the creative series suite?

  • It looks good, but it should looks more like the trocadero texture

  • @jeancouscous What is that? Not familiar with the term

  • wow didn't know photoshop can do that !

  • I can't see the 3d model that I import. I can paint on it and it shows up on the diffuse map, but it just shows white in the viewport.

  • Great tutorial! You saved my day dude. :-)

  • nice tutorial, I tried the same thing with photoshop and it really helped! Thanks By the way, if you want to make $ with your 3d models check out cgworld(dot)com

  • My right ear enjoyed this.

    Good tut dude thanks.

  • Niice.

  • very helpful tutorial! thanks

  • how can i import a smooth mesh? can i somehow import a smooth mesh without clicking smooth? like when i click the hotkey for smooth, it wont save as that, just the original mesh

  • @WatashiaiNeji because "3" (the hotkey for smooth) doesn't really smooth, its a preview of what it would look like if it was actually smoothed. ..so.... you just have to smooth it. Sorry dude.

  • is there a way to disable symmetric texturing?

so i can edit only the left or right side of the 3d model

  • crazy shit i wish i was at this level of 3d

  • do they have 3d complatibilty in cs3?

  • I have a question i hope you can help me with. When i do control E to put the texture onto the 3d object it always goes on very blurry especially text, is there a setting or a way to correct this?

  • Great tuts, big thanks!!

  • so the only difference between regular and extended photoshop

is that you can create 3d model on the extended? thats it? No different brushes or anything?

  • awsome tutorial dude! This helped me a lot.

  • que lixo

  • @leminlyme </3 is that supposed to be an ass-hat? Why would you texture better after I had textured? I recommend investing in stocks, especially early while they have time to fully vest. Oh, but you're poor. Probably because you insult people who provide you with free educational material instead of seeking a job.

    ;\

  • @slorpthegillman Is that supposed to be an ass-hat?

That struck me as hilarious. Nice work.

  • how to import model in ps5 every tab is gray...when i click on 3d i only have import model from internet..??

  • re-animation

  • so which mean we don't have to open UV anymore by using this method?

  • @Kenzcreation i dont think so... UVs were laid out earlier.. and it was exported as an obj file which also stores the UV coordinates.. so photoshop just bakes the image we give and fits it to the UVs........

  • IS there anyway i can increase the resolution of the grid?

  • this vs maya and body paint? how do i render this out?

  • what file do you export to cs4 with?

  • @Slorpthegillman Hi! very good stuff Very thank of you for do that. I have the same doubt of Vicioussion I HAVE A SOLID 3d ANDN I WOULD LIKE PUT THE IMAGE RENDER ( a picture) JUST IN ONEFACE OF THIS SOLID: how can i do that? Could you orient me please.. (sorry for my terrific english). In this tuorial video on 3:30 min you made the action that i want to try .. wich comand did you use...........

  • every time i try to merge an image to my 3d model the image get very distorted. is there a setting i have to adjust to fix this?

  • @Slorpthegillman Hi! very good stuff Very thank of you for do that. I have the same doubt of Vicioussion I HAVE A SOLID 3d ANDN I WOULD LIKE PUT THE IMAGE RENDER ( a picture) JUST IN ONEFACE OF THIS SOLID: how can i do that? Could you orient me please.. (sorry for this terrific english).

  • can you tell me please how can i make a hair for the charachter made by facegen program??

  • WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWWO ARE YOU J.D FROM SCRUBS? You are fucking really sounds like him xD

  • Awesome...thanks for this tutorial :)

  • a quick question slorpthegillman

i have a head in 3dsmax, i have then converted it to obj and made uv maps, but in photoshop i can see 1 seam, on the back of the head and i cant paint there :( so entire back of my head looks like poo xD any ideas or suggestions? :) thanks alot in advance and great vid!

  • You sound like J.D from Scrubs :D

  • weirdly enough... I get that I look like him too sometimes. Some of my students think I look like Nathan Drake from the Uncharted games.... oh well. I personally think I sound like Kermit the frog.

  • @slorpthegillman I think you sound a little like Brick from The Middle hehe. Maybe you come from the same area.

  • @slorpthegillman As soon as you said that i suddenly noticed XD

  • @00riddle00 hahahah, exactly

  • @00riddle00

    Hahahaha! You're RIGHT!

  • Umm, haha, so you can see the comment tube to use google, mmm ... The tuto is interesting, but eh seen any that is in Spanish for 3d, I'll have to wait for someone to make one anyway, thanks and greetings ...

  • please, convert in spanish... This is for a people in speak spanish... Please

  • I'm sorry, I don't speak spanish. I also don't have a budget, or any students who don't speak spanish. My first priority would be to close caption these videos since I do have students who are hearing impaired.

I'm just one guy making free videos. If you would like to translate the video for me, I'd be happy to post a translation to go along with it that people could read.

  • @SergioSnake31 wtf would he translate it for you gooks

  • Hi.. very good video!

    we've a question for you..

By our experience it's impossible to work in photoshop cs4 simultaneously with the 3d model and the 2d texture, because ps stop to refresh the 2d textures or the 3d model, and begun to save sequentials of different psb on the temp directory.

    We are right or not?

    Thank you very much

  • You are right, but if you explore these tools further, you will realize there is no reason to do what you are asking.

When you go to the material/texture explorer in the 3d menu, you can open your texture file, updated, right from there. So there's no reason to leave it open side by side ever.

  • 5 stars. very good work

  • I don't know.. I'm a very pro-Photoshop artist, but I gotta say I find 3D texturing with Bodypaint 3D much user friendly and professional.

  • I agree. Except Bodypaint doesn't have a Warp Transform tool. I prefer to use Zapplink in Zbrush to do all of my texture painting.

  • Yep, if you have the, let's say, patience to grab a view, texture, grab another, texture.. I know, the warp tool is one of the professional's favorite everyday ! Probably it's just me, I'm not used to texture with zAppLink, used it only once, and that time was for post effects in Photoshop.. you know, the matCap info transformed into a layer with hard light blending is something very powerful !

  • I'm a Maya guy personally (but that's only cause I'm a certified instructor for Maya). Both are great packages, and indeed Blender is a capable piece of software. It's all about your budget and aspirations.

  • no, photoshop 3d does not allow you to model, only texture

  • for this you need a very fast machine right???

  • yes, at least one with a capable graphics card and a few gigs of ram would be recommended. I have a Radeon X1900 and 12GB of Ram

  • what software is best for 3d modeling? I know there is autocad and some other apps but I would really like to know how to create more realistic looking 3d images like the ones used in games and other characters.

  • @scientist100

The standard for films, and as used in this video, is Maya, currently in it's 2010 edition.

If you're a student, you can get the entire creative suite for £150 or something. Well worth it.

  • well, it really is up for debate, I prefer 3ds max. but other people like maya. problem is both are very expensive. there is a free 3d modeling software package out there called blender. blender is very capable and can do everything the very expensive software can. If I were you and interested in learning how to model in 3d I would suggest taking a look at that.

  • thanks for the advice, I decided not to do these kind of arts since I suck at it; I'll start doing some web design from now on and computer repair as well :D

  • why i didnt have the 3d menu on my cs4??

    please reply.

  • you have to have the "complete" version of the cs4 package, or whatever they are calling it.

  • you have a great series of tutorials. thanks

  • your welcome

  • Holy shit, thats awesome. You get 5 respect points from me, creator of this tutorial.

  • Rad! are those redeemable at Best Buy?

  • Nope. But you can tell your friends you have some!

  • Thanks! p.s. you sound like Ben Stiller in happy gilmore

  • Adam Sandler!!!

  • Ben stiller is the orderly for his grandma.

  • haha he totally does!

  • I would actually say Ben Braff from Scrubs lol

  • This is such an odd conversation. I usually think my voice is more like Kermit the Frog

  • Hey guys can you give me an explanation as to why my photoshop CS4 doesn't have 3D tools?

I tried looking for them anywhere they don't exist...

    Any suggestions?

A link to a patch or something?

  • There are actually multiple versions of Photoshop right now. Complete, Extended.. I'm not sure what they call them. You probably have a stripped down version.

  • No no dude, I have all the 3D menus and everything on windows 7 from the same dvd with photoshop.

For some reason it didn't give me any 3D menus in windows vista but now on windows 7 I have them:p

It may be something related to compatibility, but now it's solved.

    Cya ;)

  • Why is there only audio in the left channel?

    Anyhow awesome tutorial, many thanks.

  • This is an old video with audio recorded off my webcam mic

  • Very nice Videos. Great to see the different tools for making a good texture.

  • i mean

    wow

    u got some skills

how long have you been doing this?

  • for the better part of this decade. Thank you! creating character textures is my job.

  • Thanks! This is very helpful.

  • can u add this to flash?

  • awesomeness =D

  • fucking cool!

  • are blender models compatible with phostosop cs4 3d????

  • i can try for u if u give me a blender model

cuz i dont use blender :P

  • give me ur email address and il send u a model to try wiv,

    fanks man

  • If you export the model as a .3ds and then open that file, it works :)

    In Blender, File --> Export

  • If you export the model as a .3ds and then open that file with Photoshop it'll work :)

    In Blender, File --> Export

  • Yes they do, because blender can export to OBJ, and if you can export to OBJ, you can bring it into photoshop.

  • just need to export it as an obj

  • Nice work! Would like to see the final project though.

  • Lol

    Its so funny!

    Youre Head in 3D

    x']

  • when you are going to merge the photo with the 3d head, you press ctrl e? because i hit this and nothing happened, i tried to combine the layers and only the photo is visible, i hope you can help me with this problem

  • You should of put Photoshop CS4 Extended because Photoshop CS4 doen't have that 3d stuff anyway cool

  • I think CS4 is awesome for its new 3d features :D but i still prefer the good ol and boring process of UVmapping :) gives a better result imo..

I think the best program for "3d Paint" is Zbrush.

And creating a low poly model, import it to Zbrush, sculpt it and create Uvmaps and bump maps etc.. then texture it and apply it to the lowpoly model might be a long and sometimes boring process, but yoou get a better end result than just using CS4's "3d Paint"

But nice tutorial non the less :)

  • I think you missed the point!

Even for texturing in PS CS4 Uvmapping first is a must.

I havent tried this CS4 feature by now, but I bet to get better results by importing a mid- to highpoly model (from zbrush or maya etc) - colortexturing it - import that map into zbrush (or in my case now mudbox) and then doing the ultrahighpoly. The workflow and comfort of the photoshop-tools should give much better colormapresults then using the clumsy coloring tools of zbrush.

  • That would be illegal, and any attempts to list serial numbers here will be deleted by me. Please contact an authorized Autodesk software retailer for a legal site license, or download the free personal learning edition.

For photoshop, the same applies as well.

  • how is the processing pace? is it faster than zbrush texturing

  • Thank you very much!!! Just what I've been looking for!

  • Excelent Bro`! .. I hope to see the finish job ...

  • Great tutorials man, helped me out a lot

  • Wow!! ... that was amazing!!!

    TANKYOU SO MUCH!
