That is why theu restricted themselves to short two second bursts. Five minutes continuous firing indeed! They couldn't carry enough ammunition! RAF lost also over 50 000 crew members dead during in bombers during WW2. It's also documented that thousands of men were not at all so brave. E.g they tended to drop bombs before their got the target. There were also cowardice among RAF, USAF and Luftwaffe. There isn't any army or airforce avoidin these kinda of very human behaviour.
