@mojohelmet - The subtitles are not in spanish, but portuguese !! It was meant for that brazilians could watch it, and the subtitles will go on. Thanks !
anyone else notice that in the eppisode "The Inner Light", Picard's wife is called "Neela" and in this episode "Lessons" his love interest is called "Nella", two very similar names.
@startrekfreak900 Actually the name of Picard's "wife" in The Inner Light is Eileen, NOT Neela.... I should know as many times as I've watched The Inner Light!
You should have left a couple of seconds more to let the audience actually see what was the reason for music to stop :D Rated PEGI13 for explicit depiction of kissing between a captain and one of his science officers :D
@CCTV9 Data wasn't even in the same room before the music stopped. Geordi only seemed to have heard better than his human collegues but then he IS blind, which is supposed to enhance the other sences...
Does anyone but me think that that would be a horrible way to actually play a Keyboard? I mean on your knees with it not raised at all would just be impossible to actually do a good job with.
awwww you cut it before the kiss, haha i thought thats where this scene was going when you showed the Laforge and Data. oh well awesome scene regardless.
This has always been a favorite scene... I'm glad I found it. The slightly altered arrangement of the Inner Light melody was always more preferable to me. I've gotten used to the original over time, but still - I remember this scene and episode more.
Yeah, I know, I've got the entire series on DVD. I love how in the Inner Light episode, if you click on it through episode selection, you can hear it playing. Also, I heard a full orchestral version online. As morbid as it may sound, I want the Inner Light song playing at my funeral, for to me it is a reflection of all the events, the people, the places, everything in how a single life can touch so many. Truly emotionally powerful for me.
I just watched THE INNER LIGHT again, I shared it with my girlfriend...she enjoyed it as well. Ive heard the orchestral verson as well, 6 minutes of wonderful huh :)
I can see that song for a funeral, even a wedding... its going on the ipod :D
@Time4YouRealityCheck This is the song I'm using at my wedding to walk down the aisle to. I figured since we're having a Star Trek themed wedding is was THE best music for that moment :D
I will never understand why it is that from this scene many people can derive only carnal lustful thoughts. This sort of moment is what I have wanted in my own life for some time now. A moment where two individuals use their music as an extension or catalyst of their love. This may strike you as corny, but I believe that it is a scene of the purest beauty.
Upon seeing this my dik felt suspended in hyperspace with twenty green alien maidens milking it gently to the strains of Beethofen. Truly, this elder MILF garners my highest marks for frikability, wantoness, and downright old school kumfukme appeal. Bravo to the writers, dikless tho they might have been, their fantasy soared.
I too. This episode is one of my favorites. I absolutely love the way that Neela and Captain Picard get along so perfectly in this episode. And I absolutely love the playing of the music in this section of the ship. I almost found it hilarious that Geordi began looking around for the music.. but it stopped on him before he could locate it. And then Data walks in on him and is puzzled by Geordi's assertion about the music.
Anyone spotted the cutting error? She rolls teh piano out on the floor but when the camera pulls away when they're both playing, its on a stand, where did that come from?
You can hear things being clicked into place and buttons being pressed when Picard is naming the Jefferies Tube. I'm assuming she is deploying some 24th Century in built stand
I noticed and ignored it. Sometimes suspension of disbelief is required, especially in this scene. The music too beautiful to be spoiled by such a distraction.
if u notice when she plays Beethoven she's already playing on the stand, i assume when the camera was showing picard tell where they are she was probably installing the stand.
Love Geordie's comment at 3:19 "I hear music" An extra minute or so of the Enterprise straking through space with the music would have been wonderful, shame we didnt get it
They really should've extended this scene for a good 5 minutes with some beauty shots of the Enterprise sailing through space to Nela and Picard playing this.
Sadly, they only had 44 minutes or so of content to work with and they had a story to tell...perhaps they could've talked the commercial advertisers into paying them for a musical interlude?
The combination of piano and the Ressikan flute is just the greatest song ever performed. At the end, Picard and Neela should of performed a concert with that song.
Thank you for this. I hadn't seen this episode. Love the tune- starts off like 'Speed, bonny boat.... ', the Skye Boat Song. I'm going to learn it on my whistle. Thanks again.
in picards flute solo, you can really feel the sailors lineage from the galleon on the seas through to the enterprise in the final frontier. A gem in the TNG that makes the futuristic world so much more real and relatable.
Yeah, I totally got teary during this scene because you know how much this song means to Picard, and then when she starts playing the piano you can see that it touches him to hear it.
I agree, this and the linked episode where Picard lived his life in stasis of the probe has to bee my most favorite episodes. I love the music they've written for this, and how it geniously ties in with his experience.
Its funny, When the writers wrote in the the "paper thin" piano. they thought it would really be an invention in the future during the starship era. but now we do have pianos that are that thin and do fold up just like the one in the video.
@themadrasser in ST technology did not take over. The replicator, warp drive, transporter etc. are just tools and never abused by the main characters even though they could be horrific weapons. That's one of many reasons why the ST universe is so much better than the real world where almost every single major invention has been used for destructive purposes
