  • Put some tape on the end of the screwdriver so you don't scratch up that screw. I don't like buggered up screw heads on guns!

  • What grips does that nice Colt.45 SAA have?

  • Thank you, I think iv watched your videos about ten time each on the SSA colts. I have always been a huge fan of them just never got around to picking one up. But I was able to get with a buddy of mine and fired his for the first time.

You really need to put a disclaimer on your videos, Fire one once and you WILL be hooked. As a gift to myself for another year my income tax is going to pick out one or two of theses beautiful firearms.

Thumbs up bro, keep up the great work your doing here.

  • What lengths did Clint Eastwood and John Wayne have in their westerns?

  • pardon me but it sure looks small in your hands if i didn't know better i wouldn't think much about it.(the gun i mean) may be you could somehow do a size comparison of your hands some day i like your channel good luck

  • Enjoyed the video. I have always loved the oldies. Except for my m1's, I don't have any older. Would like to get a 45 for myself. But pretty expensive. The Dragoons are really nice.

  • Great gun and a damn good video.

  • @ung427 yes it does i have managed to get it to work after hours of tinkering thank you for your reply turns out it was the sear that was the problem thanks again

  • Good Video

  • @hickok45 i have a problem first off love your videos i got a replica saa as i live in the uk :( had a go at stiriping it down and i hit a snag when it came to put it back together i have a half coild spring that kinda look slike \@/ that and i cant remeber where it fell out from i know im beeing a bit vauge but if you could help me out that would be great

  • @cockbells It might be the sear and bolt spring. The original colts have flat/non-coiled springs but my Ruger Old Army has coiled springs and the only spring that looks like \@/ is the sear and bolt spring. It sits right above the trigger. I'm assuming your replica has coiled springs?

  • were can i buy one of these when im 21? p.s. amazing videos

  • I wish england legalized guns. so i could own the beautiful SAA.45

  • hi hickok i was wondering what were your thoughts on the cimarron version?

  • That is a beautiful gun. That's history right there.

  • beautiful colt

  • Revolvers beat semi-autos PERIOD

  • oh i thought you were called hickok45 because i thought you were born in 1945

  • My dad had an old Colt Single action that had several nothces in the bone grips. It had what I would call a hair trigger, The hemmer was bent over the the right. The trigger gaurd hand been filed away allowing the fingure to slip right onto the trigger. As I mentioned, the trigger action had been lightend but it was also bent over to the right. This gun had an engraving around the butt which said "Top Gun Al Colb" Also there were no sights on the barrel. The holster was also a special design!

  • I wanna get one but don't know where to buy one.

  • LOve that gun Hickok

  • And people say guns are not pretty.... Ill have to disagree with them.

  • if you go back far enough in time, some people thought this was a high capacity gun

  • OCELOT!!!!

  • That is one fine firearm

  • was that gun blued

  • Great review. Thanks for all the information.

  • its impressive how creative human being can be for killing...

  • are you turning 66 this year?

  • @JAV619LAX, Not quite. Are you?

  • @hickok45 no not at all just wondering because your account name has 45 at the end :)

  • @JAV619LAX No Hickok my little bro was born in 1950

  • beautiful gun, wish i could have something like that

  • LOL get some snap caps.

  • @Mcsterif The only replica I know of that does that, are the Ruger Vaqueros. It's not possible to do in a true Colt Single Action or many replicas I know of such as the Uberti clones.

  • aka peacemaker

  • Hickok, how many acres of land do you actually own? ;)

  • Thanks for sharing Hickok

  • nice gun ill bye it from you for 1000 $ lol

  • Why couldn't I have been born in the U.S :( I'm fasciated with the "Wild West" era with the old revolvers, lever action rifle's and such and not to forget the horses :D. But sadly I'm stuck in spiffing old britian where the closest I could get would be a bb replica :( I envy the U.S constitution.

Anyway rant over that was a very nice with lots of information. Please keep them coming you have yourself a new subscriber.

  • @gamegeek2107 wow....you are a Brit and like something American? Based on what our American media tells us we are hated by all of you.

  • The Colt SA .45 is not a small revolver.....Hick must have huge hands !

  • Mr. Hickok Is that your dog at 4:47 ? He probably wants to shoot too.

  • That's awesome, thanks for sharing !

  • So this gun, could have been owned by the army, the president, the vice president, a general, or a criminal, and you would never know. The history of guns.

  • are there versions that use modern .45 shells?

  • @williamrafe1 I believe that there are cylinders that will take a .45ACP. Not sure why you would want to... .45LC is just too much fun. ;)

  • @ProtoformX yea, but it might be easier to be able to use a modern bullet instead of just buying those specific shells for it. idk, maybe im wrong, but it was just a thought. i know u can change barrels and magazines to change calibers on other guns

  • @williamrafe1 You can fire a .45 bullert just fine. It's the rest of the cartridge that may not fit well.

  • Trust me, nobody that I know gets tired of these educational closeups.

  • BEAUTIFUL PISTOL HICK!!!

  • All I can say is wow... great video thank you

  • That is a goddamn work or art. Damn fine weapon sir.

  • OMFG I GOTS DE SAME SCREW-DRIVER!

  • I wish to hell that old antiques could speak.

  • @skiie Oh they can. You just gotta feed em some cartridges first.

  • 4:48 i hear a doggy

  • Love the single actions. How does a .357 magnum compare to the .45 Colt? I'm looking into getting a Ruger in either .357 or .45; wondering how they compare in how easy the .45 is to shoot compared to the .357. I haven't had an opportunity to shoot them and compare.

  • @farmerallis They are both great rounds. The .357 Mag is a bit more snappy compared to a 45 Colt.

Personally, I'm looking to get a Ruger NM Blackhawk in 45 Colt but thats because I already load for 45 ACP so getting a 45acp cylinder for it is most likely what I will do.

  • @Jrhoney Thanks for the reply. Right now I'm leaning toward the good ol' 45. I think I'll go out and shoot both to compare just to be sure before I buy.

  • Is it rifled?

  • Love your vids, dude!!

Great resolution, profound knowledge, no-bullshit presentation, camera angle perfect! Heck, you even got the proper presentation voice LOL

I would prefer this sweet old model to any modern day Ruger or Colt for that matter - love the old P-frame. A dream.

One question, though, why not let down the hammer from half-cock? Doesn't the action take less wear from half cock? I am thinking of the cylinder-arresting piece on the inside...

    Thanks and greets from Germany!

  • for all of you fallout fans, this is the mysterious magnum I believe in NV

  • @Konstiin No, this is the .357 magnum revolver.

The mysteruious magnum is the S&W Model 29, I think

  • @Konstiin no its not at all!

  • Wow really cool you have something that old that is still completely operational and smooth running. It sounds really well built every time you pull that hammer back. Thanks for sharing

  • I never get tired of seeing these old western guns.

  • Nice SAA. I'll probably get one myself, but a new one.

  • press "Δ" for reload.......

  • hi there im new to this sport my favorite gun is the colt 45 4 5/8 and im watching your video´s almost every day

to learn a thing or two please keep it up

  • You looking to sell any of your colts just curious

  • Thanks very much enjoyed

  • Loved the video and especially loved your hands, real delicate thumbs, real pistolero fingers!

  • Where could someone get one not this particular year or model but one similar to this one?

  • "This gun is the best gun ever"

  • @ProP4hh

    Nice MGS reference.

  • @ProP4hh that has been said by every person who has ever looked at this gun

  • americain buty

  • hickok45 vs .cokeman2423 who would win

  • please tell me where you bought this or where i can get one thank you!

  • 2 people that have seen this video are horse thieves.

  • 2 people had their brains blown out with the old colt saa

  • I'm Scottish and it was really interesting to see the mechanics of such an iconic gun. I liked that you obviously took a great deal of care with the safety features too. Good video.

  • Either that SAA is tiny or this man has the most gigantic hands in the world....

  • My uncle just inherited an old colt .45 SAA with beatiful engravings all over and pearl grips that are also engraved and the date on it says 1874. Its old and worn out and i can tell its not a remake. It belonged to his great grandfather and it has his initials engraved. The serial number is 174266. Any idea how much it could be worth or where he could get it apraised?

  • @ToughBeef cannot really say without seeing it, but a genuine colt from back then will be worth thousands..... maybe even over 10,ooo if its a really rare model/variation. buy yourself a gun value book and educate yourself.

  • @palex9 Yeah man its like by far the most beautiful gun ive ever seen and it has my uncle's great grandfather's initials engraved in the pearl grips. Its engraved all over also.

  • Do modern replicas use black powder cartridges still? I'd like to get a single action revolver, but a version that can be shot more than six times before needing to be cleaned.

  • @CrystalHunter1989 , YOu can shoot black powder cartridges in any of them, but you have to be ready for the messy powder residue.

  • @CrystalHunter1989

By 1900, at serial number 192,000, the Colt Single Action was certified for use with smokeless powder. So most modern replicas should be able to handle it if they pattern after the 2nd generation guns. As always though, contact the manufacturer to ensure that their gun can be used with modern powders. They'll have the information on hand.

  • @CrystalHunter1989 No you don't still have to use black powder

  • nice vid!

  • Awesome gun. What material are those grip pieces made of?

  • do i hear a dog at 4:48 =D?

  • that is a seriously sexy ass gun.

  • real?

  • Thanks for the video, very informative.

  • slipped my hoe a .44 and she got in the back door...

  • i absolutely love the look of that gun, out of all the variants of firearms i have to say revolvers are the ones i like the most, especially the single action colts

  • not trying to be nosy but does your wife shoot too?

  • @southernforever38 ,Not really - just tolerates it.

  • @hickok45 as all our other halfs do :)

  • @hickok45 LOL

  • @hickok45 that is one beautiful gun

  • my grandfather collects old western weapons and i was thinking of buying one of these colts for his birthday how much do you think it would cost? he only likes the old ones not replicas

  • Isn't it bad for the gun to dry fire it? You dry fire it to the empty chamber after loading.

  • I think the old gun has a character holding it.

  • It really amuses me how the shells are ejected. I hope I'll have a chance to handle one of these one day.

  • Wow. How do you make the Dummy Bullets.

  • @lonelyhobo135, I load the round without any powder or primer, as well as drill a hold through the side of the cartridge usually to show clearly that it's a dummy.

  • @hickok45 But Isnt That Dangerous drilling a hole through it while its live?

  • @hickok45 , It's never 'live" if I don't put powder in it.

  • When I first saw this I thought the gun was a small replica but then I realized it was just your big ass hand that made it look small. Anyways cool video now I know how to take apart mine.

  • Howdy from Missouri , I have a Uberti 45 l.c. and it's o.k. for a beater gun, but my Ruger Vaquero is different animal all together. The Ruger just feels much higher quality and smooth . I have never had the pleasuer of owning a Colt . I would bet it would make my Ruger seem like a beater . Would we ever be satisfied ? Nope we are allways searching for the ultimate, I guess that's what makes this hobby so much fun . Allthough I must admit I usually return to my beaters !

  • You need to review a USFA Single Action, heard they make great guns.

  • how much do one of these cost?

  • i prefer the s&w schofeild .45. i like the looks and the auto ejecting cartrages better. and i know i spelled it wronge in my name. the right spelling was taken

  • I want one :) The thing I love most, is that if you get an origional one from the late 1800s or early 1900s you are holding a peice of history, you never know who carried the gun or what they did with it. If I get one it would most likely be one of colt's modern day SAA because I'm guessing they wouldn't be any where near as expensive as one from the 1800s :P Anyone know what one would cost? I couldn't find a price : / Oh well, I'm going to pick up my colt 1903 .32 soon (real excited xD ).

  • jesus christ, 1883? still looks well shootable! thats amazing what a champion piece of steel :)

  • I love all the old guns for some reason but I still think the most sexy and awesome looking gun ever is the Colt 1911.

  • Thanks a lot! I really enjoyed your video.

  • Whats better in your opinion, Double action or single action?

  • The most beautiful handgun in the world...

  • what a great gun

  • how much does one of those run for hickock??

  • Comment removed

  • Colt .45 and two zig zag baby thats all you need. Go to the park after dark smoke that tumbleweed

  • How much would one just like this cost?

  • im buying a single action army for CCW.. yeah, in 130 years no one has made a handgun that can come close to the natural feel, balance, or ergonomics of the colt single action army.. since i wouldnt use an origional (id baby one instead), and cant afford a third generation, i was wondering if youve had a chance to fire the uberti/cimmaron clones or the beretta stampede?... whichever one of those two im get, itll be .357... im also looking for a good '92 lever clone in .357

  • @megadeth22885 , I've owned the Uberti, and they are pretty well made. The Ruger Vaquero is probably the best made if you don't mind losing some authenticity in action, etc. It's a great gun.

  • @hickok45 thats a major downside, about loosing the feel of the handgun.. i love the SAA for the balance and the feel of it... friend of mine who has a couple origionals, one his grandfather purchased new in the 1880s.. hes talked to me about the breaking problems i always hear about and from what i can tell theyre not that serious, the components look rather simple to grind out and fit yourself with a little work and simple tools so im not too worried about that.. ill probably get the stampede

  • make some peace

  • wow thats a nice Colt .45 !!!

  • beautiful weapon!

  • Awesome gun man really cool hold something historic and shoot it :)

  • Beautiful gun. Thanks for the close view of it, I hope to get one soon.

  • that is probly the greatest gun ever made :P

  • that colt is awesome!!! if it could only speak indeed :)

  • Will the gun fire if it is 1/4 cocked or 1/2 cocked or if the loading gate is opened?

  • @princesscake , It could if it were dropped, but the gun needs to be cocked fully in order to shoot.

  • @hickok45 do you have a schofield

  • is hickok ur last name or something?

  • beautiful gun!

  • Do you know how much it would be to purchase one of these fine weapons?

  • I like old black powder guns, but I love the colt more than anything.

  • You are my hero:)

  • In Europe you must be lucky if you see a gun in your lifetime. Wish that I lived in the U.S. :)

  • You kind of sound like Keith Carradine who played Wild Bill Hickok on the TV series Deadwood =). Thanks for posting, very intressting video.

  • Thats kick ass man.....if I ownded that gun it would be in a glass case at all times guarded by Terminators

  • the sound of this gun being loaded is eargasmic

  • I love gun porn!

  • dont go off half cocked my friend!! great video, thanks!

  • I think you're my hero. LOL

  • i love your vids, Keep it up!

  • hey :)

very nice video, but i wanted to know,do they make guns like this ( i mean at COLT firm ),and if i got one, will i be able to shoot it in modern terms and ammo ?

thanx for anyone who will answer me..

  • @atlas5500 , Colt still makes these guns.

  • @hickok45 Do they make 1st generation of Colt SAA ?

  • @atlas5500 to answer the rest of your question yes you can fire modern ammo out of a new Colt SAA thing to remember is the Colt can come in about 20 different calabers not just the .45

  • I have a 3rd gen Colt Single Action Army .45 in the Artillery length, and it is night stand gun, my friends all think I am crazy and should have my Beretta, or 1911. What do you think about using one of these for home/ personal defense?

  • @michaelinsanantone ,

Hey, whatever you feel most comfortable with. Yeah, there might be more ideal choices, but I doubt anybody told Wyatt Earp he was not well armed with his Colt by the bed! :-)

  • @michaelinsanantone Grab a shotgun with some buckshot or a slug. Home defense at its finest.

  • This was a very educational video. I will be purchasing mine soon. 45LC by Cimaron. Can't wait to take mine to the range.

  • how much is something like that worth?

also, when did the first "smokeless-approved" models (for lack of a better term) first come out, and how much would a nice working condition one be worth (ballpark estimate)?

  • Would like to know if the black powder frame is able to shoot modern 45LC bullets without any damge to the gun?

  • @georyans ,

Definitely not supposed to do that if the gun was made prior to around 1900. You can date the gun by the serial number.

  • Mr. hickok I enjoy watching your video, very educational. Would you have time to see mine. "Colt .45 peacemaker p1850" I ask because it is considered a collectible and I couldn't help myself and fired it. Would it still be considered a collectible?

  • @psbirdwell ,

Probably so, firing one doesn't remove the collector's value.

  • Beautiful...

  • there's no way there could be any damage at all to one of these SAA's if you use artificial dummy rounds, right?

  • @GunFreak270 , You mean with dry firing? Should hurt anything.

  • What a beautiful pistol but why does it look so tiny? You must have huge hands!

  • its single action so it looks so cool when people pull the hammer really quickly and fire

  • Man you are my hero, 45 peacemaker saa is my personal favourite, especially the 4 and 3 quarters barrels
