@Parrotguy1999 Maybe that is the lesson of the entire movie... that "poor" man was indeed a rich person. Pure in his heart, simple, generous with love and with joyful ways even during hard times.
Sad? Really? Being partners, side by side through thick and thin for a quarter of a century. Being able to count on each other no matter what the world throws at them ultimately producing a declaration of a love that is so strong and simple that it has been there, without flowery words or silly gestures for years.
After hearing something like that, I think that the only sad thing is how frail and plastic love has become these days.
I suppose that's true but I do have to say that our laughable modern marriages that are all fluff and no substance which end when one spouse gets bored doesn't strike me as anything that history will look back on with any fondness.
Bryan you hit it right on the nose. Today's marriages are not the ones my parents did long long ago. What ever happened to till death do us part? or for better or worse, in sickeness and in health, richer or poorer. No, todays marriages are until "I'm not happy anymore". We have made marriage one of convience not sacrifice. There is no commitment, and we have taught each other through the media, that in a divorce you are to be as nasty as you possibly can to the other person, and the kids
@winterelm -I wouldn't have a marriage like my parents for all the money in the world. She's been praying for him to die for 50 years because he has made her so miserable, but she won't leave. She thinks she's going to get a kind of reward for putting up with his abuse, but the rest of the family, children included, think she's crazy for staying with him. Nobody should have to stay with somebody who is crazy/abusive.
I love my husband unconditionally, but I won't stay with him unconditionally.
I agree. I also think this song portrays how you choose every day to love someone =) you learn to grow with someone and love even the things you might originally find annoying about them. I think the world today is too quick to relate love purely to a feeling, that once gong supposedly can't be revived. Rather then a feeling that begins out of commitment and sacrifice, that endures and continues forever.
I love this song ^^

its sad because they were married to each other with no say in the matter. They could have hated each other and who would have cared?
