@Flannelsykes Oh yes, Winwood Heath Road is a favourite of mine when I want to punish myself, especially after going up Hagley Wood Lane beforehand. The Stourbridge CC hill climb used to go up Winwood Heath Road but was switched for some reason. I am currently working on a massive Black Country Hill Climb DVD so that people can torture themselves on a turbo trianer this winter.
The infamous Four Stones stand at 1035ft above sea level. They are not ancient. They were erected here at the end of the eighteenth century at the direction of George, Lord Lyttleton at a time when Gothic romanticism of this order were much in vogue. The stones were acquired from a quarry in Hagley Park but the exact date of their erection has not been established.
Further to this... For many years it was thought that each stone was in a separate county - Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Staffordshire and Shropshire but this is a fallacy. Another conception was put forward by William Timmings in his 'Guide to Clent' published in 1835. He claimed that they indicated the cardinal points however, around this time, the west stone fell down and was re-erected in a position more towards the north. Hope this helps... Kieron

Excellent video. I know the climb well though the one up through Farley wood onto Romsley hill is the toughest of the climbs around Clent

Very enjoyable video, beautifully narrated. What are the four stones, is their history known?
