  • I remember in the "Swallows and Amazons " one of the Gals was named Titty

  • I Love the music during the cycling Scene its "In Party Mood" by the West End celebrity Orchestra

  • how thoroughly SPIFFING!!! jolly hockey sticks, and let's all bully orf.

  • This is RAR-THAR racist.

  • oh look timmy's fallen over

  • YOU REALLY ARE A BRICK...

  • I should mention that this skit was loosely based on "Five Get Into Trouble", one of the Famous Five series by Blyton. They have taken liberties with it, but it is surprisingly true to the original!

  • Right down nice y'are!

  • "well you are rather mature... arent you Julian"

"Oh Timmy, youre just as licky as ever!"

  • so ridiculous it's actually funny as!!

  • SCREW THE RULES I HAVE MONEY!

  • 'Look! Timmy's fallen over!'

    'Crikey! He's been poisoned!'

'Don't worry George we'll buy another'

    Gets me every time

  • The way Ade says " yes you really are a brick!! " at 7.27 gets me every time!

  • legend.

  • heh the big baddie with the shades is from the old DO-IT-ALL adverts, lol

  • is this the one where dick says "don't talk to HIM julian, he's working class!!"

  • Why has this got a permanent banner at the top of the screen advertising a scam website from Clash Media?

  • when Ade sais 'RAA-THER' he sounds like Rik in Bottom!!

lol love this group of comedians!!

  • "Oh LOOK - Timmy's fallen over!"

I can't believe that the majority of my generation will never know about this, I wouldn't if it wasn't for Dawn French's autobiography!

  • lol "RA-THER!" heh heh loveit

  • Is it just me or has TheDrumCritique missed some of the subtleties of this script?

  • LMFAO!

    'that man looks foreign!'

  • do you think someone has it in for timmy?

  • why wasn't Rik in this?

  • anyone know what the music is called? Going for a picnic on Sark on saturday and we want the music for our ipods to play when cycling through the counrtry side!!

  • "Puffing Billy" Edward White, "In Party Mood" Jack Strackey, "Calling All Workers" Eric Coates.

  • thanks for that....... really helpful....... nice one

  • they dont seem very bothered about UQ being kidnapped! 'oh no bad show!'

  • they made that poor porter go all the way from the station lol!

  • you really are an imbecile aren't you, the whole point is that it's sending down the dubious racial element of blyton's books, not making a point about political correctness. sorry to get so angry, but how dare you sully the great name of the comic strip...presents by using their genius to reinforce your small-minded, right-wing rubbish.

  • LMAO! Fecking brilliant! Not seen this in years!!!

Check out my photo slideshow of some of my favourite places in Dorset at my Channel! How many places do you recognise?

  • I'm glad none of the Comic Strip ever sold their souls to the devil the way Ben Elton did

  • Have you all noticed that in Aunt Fanny's cottage, in every shot, there is a bottle of alcohol.

  • OMG...I havent seen these in years.....love it. Thanks for posting these classics

  • Wizard!!

  • Rather!how young they look-brings back sweet memories of the early eighties, the shopkeeper is Robbie Coltrane

  • 'never mind George we'll get another'

    BAHAHAHAHA :)

  • diana dors>?|

  • is the shop keeper Robbie Coltrane?

    love these lot.. legends!!

  • Is it possible to obtain this on DVD??

  • "yes, I expect his name's golliwog" :)

SO glad i stumbled across this!

  • I say julian that man looks foreign

  • OMG, ive only been watching for 50 seconds and I can't stop laughinggg!

  • "You really are a brick!"

  • why can't I find any famous five stories in my local library?

  • Thats shocking, id complain!

  • Brilliantly funny. I hate to admit that Dawn French's thinness is almost distracting and unusual to my eyes!

  • haha

i just opened a famous five book and it starts almost exactly the same as this, with the 'timmy your just as licky as ever' as well

    this is just wizard.

  • Jennifer is the queen of comedy. She's so young here, not thats she's old now lol

  • The tune is indeed called 'housewive's choice' and can be downloaded as a free MP3 file from the 'radiocraft' website. Go to the 'oldtracks' page and save the link beside 'february 2002'

  • The CAPTAIN KANGAROO Theme (aka "Puffin' Billy") (it's on YT)

  • "Crikey, that must be a bit of a 'blow' for you aunt Fanny" I grew up reading these fantastic books. Does anyone know what the music is at 4m:10s and 8m:40s into clip?

  • Thank you!! Love seeing Dawn and Jennifer so young here!

  • Anybody know were to get the complete DVD Set in the USA?

  • George is Dawn French! LOL!

  • Does anyone know what the music is called played in the first 9 seconds of this video

featuring on all the comic strip presents programmes

  • I believe the same song was used for old Captain Kangaroo shows.

  • 6:32-Hagrid from Harry Potter

  • Bit of a difference between Ade Edmondsons character here and Eddie from Bottom and Vyvyan from The Young Ones

  • Sorry I forgot the title, its called 'In Party Mood'.

  • I got it ! It was the signature tune to Housewives Choice, weekday music choice radio programme, used to be 9am to 9.55. Finished in 1967.

  • The tune at the beginning when the train is coming into the station is 'Puffing Billy' - was used as the signature tune for Children's Favourites with uncle Mac, legendary radio Saturday morning music choice programme (pre pop music days). Tune in the middle of this item is driving me nuts, ,can't just place it.

  • Does anyone know the names of the pieces of music used in this hilarious show?

  • "you're very well-developed for a 10-year-old!"

  • Rather!

  • Great sketch! :D

I actually live in that cottage (1:30 - 4:00) now, though the inside looks different now! :P

And it's actually not in Dorset, it's filmed in Devon. (At least the first 4 mins) ^^

  • dirty dick is my grandad

  • RATHER ! haha

  • I say, jolly good show

  • This is hilarious! It really shows up the Famous Five's stereotypical theme. Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders did it again ^^

  • Thanks for posting this; you really are a brick!!!

  • Oh wizard!

  • "You could say please."

"I'm so filthy rich I don't have to!"

  • Well put old bean not wrong there..

  • Don't be silly - they are satirising the blinkered & automatic racism of the 40s & 50s, which Enid Blyton had allowed into her books, not encouraging it in contemporary life! I don't believe the comic strip performers & writers were Oxbridge. Ben Elton (& Rick Mayall, not in this show, but a close friend) were at Manchester Uni when I was. Ben is Jewish, Dawn French is married to an Afro-Caribbean, Lenny Henry.

I think you are teasing & pretending to be outraged!

  • Robbie Coltrane!!

  • Haha it's eddie from Bottom

  • ...not to mention Julian Clary.....

  • ......and what are we supposed to call Elton John?

  • What are fairy penguins called now?

  • alternative lifestyle penquins

  • robbie coltrane is fakin class!!!!!!!funny as .

  • This whole debate thing kicked off cos in one Enid Blyton's "Noddy" stories, Noddy gets mugged by a gang of golliwogs!

  • Yeah but she probably didn't even consider it in that way. I mean look at the Mighty Ducks. Every time there is a 'bad' team they play in black clothes and the Ducks play in white. You didn't hear anyone kicking up a fuss in that do you? People just naturally say it's Black vs White not talking about race but just because opposite colours like that make it possible to easily distinguish between the good and the bad. People read too much into it.

  • No wait - only minority groups are able to kick up a fuss! I forgot. All of you shut up and enjoy the CHILDRENS books which amazingly enough had no other context but some gentle morals about right and wrong and as an adventure series that girls and boys could read and enjoy!

  • Ok this debate about Gollywogs is ridiculous. Enid Blyton books weren't about BEING PC she lived in an era where you could call 'fairy penguins' just that and not worry about insulting the gays. Next thing you know we won't be able to call 'white seals' 'white seals' because we can't call anything 'black' and we can't even use the word 'gollywog'.

  • Love Sandra Dorne

  • Oh that was brilliant & brought back loads of memories! I think the original was screened in 1985 & now my kids have had a chance to enjoy it too.

  • A brilliant show with fantastic characters. It was great to find it again after many years. Thanks for uploading (?) it.

  • Lol!! Believe it or not, this is based on a genuine Famous Five Story (Five Get Into Trouble)

  • LOL it's exactly like enid blyton! I was going to say that she would be rolling in her grave, but then again, most probably not...

  • More like spinning

  • Awesome - a cult classic with some of the best comedians in the world.

  • They're using terms like "gollywog" to demonstrate the underlying racism in the Famous Five books; surely you must see the difference between using "gollywog" in this context and using it seriously?

  • Actually, watching this thinking cubansixteen thinks they're being serious is making it even funnier in a way...there are still people around who actually think like that, unlike us loony lefty PC types who get to have a laugh taking the piss out of them ;-)

  • ...and the other piece is "In A Party Mood" (the theme to 'wireless' show Housewife's choice).

  • The piece of music is "Puffing Billy" by Edward White...classic bit of truly English cheese IMO.

  • As someone else has asked, what is the music at the start???

  • numpty - the music is called 'Dragon' and its by the Mandroid Wreckhearts, ken?

  • wow! my stepmum owns all these and ive just fell in love with them. GO THE COMIC STRIP!

  • the comic strip for ever

  • Yooooorah!

  • Please BBC put these on DVD

  • Well, they already are, although it's region 2 only.

  • You can get the whole lot, including the two movies, in a box set released in 2005.

  • including only ONE movie, the supergrass, while 'eat the rich' is (mercifully?) omitted

however this is one of the most glorious and important half hours in the history of british comedy

  • hahahaha excellent

  • bril. dawn looks a bit like bjork, wont you say?

  • she did a bjork spoof as part of french and saunders. its on here.

  • Fantastic, thanks for uploading its so hard to find this.

  • the comic strip rules!

  • wonderfull

  • In the party mood by the bosworth orchestra.Think it used to be the theme tune to housewifes choice

  • Lol they really did talk like that, and its so damn hard to take them seriously even as a kid - kind of reminds me of the Crane brothers now. Thanks for uploading this ! :-) and Dawn French before she got really big is nice to see too.

  • lol, was that robbie coltrane as a woman?

  • yes it was coltrane as woman. hes in sum of the other comic strips as well. very talnted actor.

  • Adrian Edmondson with blonde hair...wow!

    -MINESWEEP

  • can someone tell me the name of the music used for this show, it always reminds me of england in the 30's.

  • I want to know too, if you have found out please let me know.

  • where has good comedy gone? (excluding the mighty boosh, peep show, curb your enthusiasm, the office)

  • Still brings tears (of laughter..) to my eyes.

  • Remember whenever confronted with anyone foreign looking -- call the police. Genius!

  • So funny! The books were actually like this if i remember rightly. Timmy always getting poisoned! Thanks for posting :)

  • fab! been waiting to see this for sooooooo long!

    thanks a bunch!
