I should mention that this skit was loosely based on "Five Get Into Trouble", one of the Famous Five series by Blyton. They have taken liberties with it, but it is surprisingly true to the original!
anyone know what the music is called? Going for a picnic on Sark on saturday and we want the music for our ipods to play when cycling through the counrtry side!!
you really are an imbecile aren't you, the whole point is that it's sending down the dubious racial element of blyton's books, not making a point about political correctness. sorry to get so angry, but how dare you sully the great name of the comic strip...presents by using their genius to reinforce your small-minded, right-wing rubbish.
The tune is indeed called 'housewive's choice' and can be downloaded as a free MP3 file from the 'radiocraft' website. Go to the 'oldtracks' page and save the link beside 'february 2002'
"Crikey, that must be a bit of a 'blow' for you aunt Fanny" I grew up reading these fantastic books. Does anyone know what the music is at 4m:10s and 8m:40s into clip?
The tune at the beginning when the train is coming into the station is 'Puffing Billy' - was used as the signature tune for Children's Favourites with uncle Mac, legendary radio Saturday morning music choice programme (pre pop music days). Tune in the middle of this item is driving me nuts, ,can't just place it.

1982. The seeds of Political Correctness were sown in the UK. I've got this on DVD and hadn't looked at the hidden message it gave until now. If you're over 40 look how the Oxbridge gang point a sarcastic finger at Jews, Negroes, Gypsies, thieves, and illegal immigrants - conditioning our minds for a later time. The universities that these four came from had a hidden agenda. It is claimed elswhere that Common Purpose came from Oxford in the 1960's. Funny old world isn't it?
Don't be silly - they are satirising the blinkered & automatic racism of the 40s & 50s, which Enid Blyton had allowed into her books, not encouraging it in contemporary life! I don't believe the comic strip performers & writers were Oxbridge. Ben Elton (& Rick Mayall, not in this show, but a close friend) were at Manchester Uni when I was. Ben is Jewish, Dawn French is married to an Afro-Caribbean, Lenny Henry.
I think you are teasing & pretending to be outraged!
Yeah but she probably didn't even consider it in that way. I mean look at the Mighty Ducks. Every time there is a 'bad' team they play in black clothes and the Ducks play in white. You didn't hear anyone kicking up a fuss in that do you? People just naturally say it's Black vs White not talking about race but just because opposite colours like that make it possible to easily distinguish between the good and the bad. People read too much into it.
No wait - only minority groups are able to kick up a fuss! I forgot. All of you shut up and enjoy the CHILDRENS books which amazingly enough had no other context but some gentle morals about right and wrong and as an adventure series that girls and boys could read and enjoy!
Ok this debate about Gollywogs is ridiculous. Enid Blyton books weren't about BEING PC she lived in an era where you could call 'fairy penguins' just that and not worry about insulting the gays. Next thing you know we won't be able to call 'white seals' 'white seals' because we can't call anything 'black' and we can't even use the word 'gollywog'.
They're using terms like "gollywog" to demonstrate the underlying racism in the Famous Five books; surely you must see the difference between using "gollywog" in this context and using it seriously?
Actually, watching this thinking cubansixteen thinks they're being serious is making it even funnier in a way...there are still people around who actually think like that, unlike us loony lefty PC types who get to have a laugh taking the piss out of them ;-)
Lol they really did talk like that, and its so damn hard to take them seriously even as a kid - kind of reminds me of the Crane brothers now. Thanks for uploading this ! :-) and Dawn French before she got really big is nice to see too.
