I've read somewhere that on Snakes and Arrows tour or time machine ( I can't remember) Geddy played, in some concerts, A passage to Bangkok with his doubleneck, playing rhythm guitar during the solo. Does anyone know where can I find this on video?
If you guys have ever studied Neil's lyrics, you know where his influences in objectivism come from. I'm no disciple of anyone, but I'm running a congressional campaign that will be based on those same philosophies. I'd be much obliged if you'd all critique my video's for my campaign.
PS I also put a few of my old guitar solo's in there for you.
@BlackwindSamurai I totally agree with you, Alex Lifeson is an awesome musician!. It's ironic, most of my top guitarists ever are very underrated. Brian May!, Alex Lifeson, Steve Hackett, David Gilmour (not too underrated but I think he is).
Today it's like "Let's see who can play faster than me" and then we got Satriani, Petrucci, Vai, Malmsteen... Technically amazing, but creatively empty...
@BlackwindSamurai Well, I think everyone has their own musical taste... I've listened (not much) Joe Satriani, there are a few songs that I really like, I respect him as a musician and as an educator, but (for now) I can't feel the magic. Same thing happens to me with Yngwie Malmsteen (very good in classical style, Bach, Beethoven...) But I prefer all the way Dr. May, Lifeson, GIlmour, Page, Hackett, SRV... Cheers!
@crazyhorseriding Exactly, if you sit and practice madly I bet you could play like all those virtuoso players... But to make wonderful music you coud spend a lifetime and produce nothing special; here's the beauty of music: creation.
Listen man, it seems you can apreciate good rock'n roll (Rush, Zep...) Try the first album by Queen (Queen - 1973) if you haven't heard it, I think you're gonna like it (Queen's era from 1970 to 1976 is astounding!) I hope you like it... Take care
this song was awkward for me when I went to see them cause this song is pretty much about smoking weed so they have these videos of people laughing and smoking weed, so I went to the concert but my dad loves rush also so he came so it was awkward seeing all these people in the crowd smokeing while this song was going on but still RUSH IS MY FAVORITE BAND EVER!
well the bizarre thing about lifeson is he encompasses both ends of a style: prime example: YYZ. the whole beginning is alternate picking without hammer-ons or pull offs. Then the guitar solo I'm positive he picks the first note then just pokes his fingers around the fret board for that fluid like sound. crazy!
Alex never got a break. The guy is simply amazing. If you hear what he does throughout their 20 albums or so, and see his depth, there would not be any question that this guy is at the very top of great guitar talents ever.
Simply amazing. Just more proof that Alex has lost absolutely no skill from his early days, and he can beat the crap out of many young guitarists even today!
If you notice, many of his solos have a flamenco influence. I was listening to "Red Barchetta" and found that the solo would sound like flamenco if it was an acoustic guitar, but on electric it just sounds like Lifeson!
I don't think they do drugs. I mean, they're still alive. Most classic rock bands have lost quite a few band members because of drugs but in Rush they're all alive and I saw them play an amazing performance a few months ago; I doubt they do drugs.
no, they were all created at the same time... it was like BAM! Rush is born, now thou shall melt all faces and bust all guts with awesomeness to the 12th degree
My best friend thinks they're awesome, but he somewhat despises Geddy's voice [but he's not a real fan yet so it's semi typical for people to say that], and he's very impressed with the solo, and yes, my best friend happens to be an aspiring guitarist
Its bang on too the recording, AWSOME!!! Thats fucking hard, BOMBS_AWAY

@LuiG9 i actually happen to love satriani. extremely creative in my opinion. i'm not particularly fond of the (music of the) other three.
but i still think alex lifeson is the most underrated guitarist ever.

People smoke weed at every concert. I was at a Police reunion concert at weed was in the air.
Weed to totally fine. But I wish they would get baked before the show, during intermission, or the end.
Any smoke in your face is NOT cool.

I don't think they do drugs. I mean, they're still alive. Most classic rock bands have lost quite a few band members because of drugs but in Rush they're all alive and I saw them play an amazing performance a few months ago; I doubt they do drugs.
stupidpablo1 3 years ago
Of course the members of Rush have done drugs. Every rock band has, and this song is a very obvious tribute to marijuana and opium.
Whether they still do or not is what's up for debate.
Darktree512 3 years ago
It's easy to assume they have but since they're still alive I say they don't. When they played in April they looked quite notstoned.
stupidpablo1 3 years ago
I'm not saying they still do, but they obviously have in the past.
Darktree512 3 years ago
I have every Rush album, 200 songs worth. Not one Rush song sounds the same. How do they do it?
logikos1 3 years ago
it's actually 163, but 200 is a good guess

People who think Alex sucks have to watch this solo. And that one in La Villa Strangiato, that's my personal favorite.
stupidpablo1 3 years ago
My best friend thinks they're awesome, but he somewhat despises Geddy's voice [but he's not a real fan yet so it's semi typical for people to say that], and he's very impressed with the solo, and yes, my best friend happens to be an aspiring guitarist
andymanscar 3 years ago
which solo are you reffering to? the passage to bangkok or villa strangiato?
stupidpablo1 3 years ago
La Villa Strangiato, but I love the bridge on Passage to Bangkok, one of the best ever, if not the best ever :P
andymanscar 3 years ago
Poor Alex is often overshadowed my Geddy's amazing bass abilities while playing the synthesizer and singing, and Neil's legendary drumming.
When people tell me Rush has a shit guitarist, I show them the guitar solo from La Villa and it leaves them with their mouths open.
stupidpablo1 3 years ago
or 2112, either one works, but La Villa is a very good example of showing Alex's secret skills that almost no one knows about, lol
