This song reminds me of hunting in Tennessee.... a deer walks to the edge of the woods, drops of rain fall of the leaves... the smell of leather and gun oil.... take a deep breath and aim down the sight..... a flash followed by a roar of thunder and the bucking of the rifle against your chest....smoke clears and there the deer lays in the grass.... field dress and start the long walk home...

whta country does this piece of music orginiate from? i havnt seen the film or know anything about it so if someone knows that would be appreciated. Im guessing scotland but idk .. :P)
@Pringles352 The original composition is The Gael by Dougie MacLean who is a Scottish composer so the music has a nice Gaelic feel to it, whilst being accompanied by a slow drum beat that feels Native American. But overall the music is Scottish
This song makes me want to go back to the time when no white man existed in these lands, to hunt the wild buffalo in the tall grass, to dance around the fire chanting to the spirits, to run with the wolves, to cry with the eagles, and play with the bears. To be someplace where peace once existed. But now, there is no peace. White man brought war to the world.
@revygam Look, the whole "noble savage" myth is just that, a myth. It's just as dehumanizing and racist as saying aboriginal peoples were sub-human. The idea that all native peoples were wise, kind, virtuous and eco-conscious (e.g. saying a prayer over every animal they killed) is bunk and frankly disrespectful. Just out of curiosity and not to be dismissive how old are you? I'm guessing your still in Secondary School. I use to subscribe to romantic notions not dissimilar to yours.
I love this version, when i bought the soundtrack the version on there didn't sound quite the same and it was shorter. Much prefer the one from the film
I was hiking up the mountains when a Native American man spoke to me. As I descended down the mountain I played this song thinking of that Native American man that vanished...
What a Movie. Just an Amazing all round incredible. #1 this theme of * Last of the Mohicans * well lets just say @ 4000 watts of power and Bose surround , you can imagine the WoW intensity .
This is a really great piece of music. I heard a song by Muse the other day that uses it in their song too but with a more electronic fell to it. I didn't catch the name of the song though
@CdntTnkOfAUsrName It's meant to sound both Scottish and Native American... She's Scottish and he was raised by the Mohicans. Combine the two and you get this amazing music.
this does bring people to tears...i have seen many groups redoux this song ...even so far as to do be adopted native american style...whick is fine because the theatrical score eludes to both native/bristish influences, However; Promontory, while great, is a rendition of a Scotich song called the :The Gael.
If cooper were alive to see his novel get raped and dismantle by michael mann he'll probably sue him never the less would praise trevor for his brilliant mind. it is not fair to fenimore cooper to get laughed at by mark twain almost 160 year ago and in '92 getting screwed by michael mann. hey...but at least it was filmed in my home state.
@gogetmeabeer if i remember in the film, Magua tells the French commander, Montcalm, that Munro (and the British) killed his wife and children. dont know exactly how, but some tribes were allied to French and some to the British.
This music is the right thing to call EPIC!!!!!! This if my favorite song it cheers me up but also makes me sad because they played this in a really sad part of the movie :( BUT I FRICKEN LOVE THE SOUNDTRACK SO WHO CARES!
Oh man! Whenever I hear this music I just want to charge through my enemies and cut them to shreds with effortless ease as I pass them by like the wind!! UNCAS!!!!!!!!
I think of the haunting images from the movie inspiring me to do great things. While I may never live the savage life of the americas before they were entirely civilized I can only wish. Being Native American myself this movie is very inspiring and eye opening to our country during the revolutionary war.
@n8iveracerx Actually it was set during the French and Indian War, or the Seven Year's War, which is a far more interesting conflict than the American Revolution, IMHO. If you'd like to really learn about the depth and scope of the alliances of the Native American Nations, read up on its intertwining history. You won't be disappointed.
It's a shame they don't sell the EXACT same music on the soundtrack. This is far superior to the one that is released. Luckily you can rip songs from Youtube videos. I don't feel so bad knowing I paid for the movie.
It's in a different key as well. For some reason they always are in the films.
Love this piece. I'm sure this has already been addressed, where did this version come from? this is from the actual score of the film and not the commercially released soundtrack! Has this version been released on a separate album. I keep looking for this and just can't find it.
@willmc55555 i have the sound track for this movie and it has a song similar to this also titled promontory, but it is a shorter version of it. this is the full song that plays at the very end of the movie, starting when uncas runs up that mountain to try and rescue that chick he falls in love with. very epic song with a slighly melancholy tone to it
have been drawn to this soundtrack since i saw the movie in the theaters and being a musician of less than pretty bands compositions like this really get me. i play alot of ugly fat and funky music that is respectable but does not pull on your soul like this. i entertain you this moves you.
Just returned home from a nice paintball game. Hummed that tune all the time and it really made me want to fight and win, if neccessary alone. Really awesome tune.
