16 Grand Slam titles don't necessarily make you the best, but when you watch him at his peak, at his very best, so graceful and elegant and effortless, the way tennis was meant to be played - you know there's no one better.
I remember picking Roddick to win this one at the time, probably the worst call I ever made and after this performance it really set the tone for the next several years about how big-serving players could be systematically pulled apart by Federer's genius.
That point at 7:26 - 7:47 was insane with how it ended. That may have been the best half volley I've ever seen. I remember watching that live, and saw Roddick look over at Fed after that shot. Roddick had that look in his eyes like "come on man, are you kidding me". The match was over following that. Roddick new he was outclassed in every way. Federer is BY FAR the most complete, most graceful champion tennis has ever had.The argument goes on as to who's THE GREATEST, but Fed's the most complete
Fed is still the greatest nvmd his head to head with Nadal. They are 5 years apart - that is a tennis generation. So just because Nadal took many matches (mostly on clay) later in Feds career, it doesn't mean a lot. You have to look at the total career. And if not for his career, give him the label of the greatest for the sheer beauty of his game.
Thank u for putting at least some winning points from Andy he played solid in this match and it would be unfair to not put at least some of his points. But Federer really came alive here, This was were Roger showed how good he was.
Near the end, 10:24, one of the commentators realized he was witnessing a historical moment of tennis: a Federer at his best with a hunger for trophies. Roddick looked like a lamb in front of a young, hungry lion.
people might criticize federer as much as they want, but that will never make him any less, the way he plays makes you wonder, how easy tennis is, he finishes 3 hours match barely sweating[at least thats what we see on tv] ,he does not make noises as he hits balls as fast as 120mph, since he came on the top of the tennis world, he made a class of his own, broke many records, made history, so ,federer haters, bark as much as you want, he is the greatest of all times.
@Davewise1965 much more money than you will ever have. he's actually done a lot and has millions did i say that already? let's see you even qualify for a main draw into a major....
@cj397 How can I qualify for a major tennis tournament, I am 45 years old and have never played tennis in my life. Please let me know when you get a brain.
@Davewise1965 Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but when one gives his, obviously we are going to consider the source. Obviously we aren't going to consider that opinion seriously due to the lack of ethos
@Davewise1965 then u shouldn't talk shit about someone u know nothing about, especially if u literally can't hold a racket to them. He's got millions of dollars, a loving trophy wife, won a grand slam, won davis cup, won 30+ atp titles, has been in the top 10 since 01, AND has been the world number 1. Whether he wins another gs or not (despite making 4 other finals) he's a tennis hall of famer. I think we know he amounted to something, now you, on the otherhand, are just a moron who really wont
nice one! i've always remembered that fantastic rally starting at 7:25 and the amazing finish!! roddick was smiling like "hey, this guy is extra-terrestrial !!"
Roddick is horrible.

3:36 what a joke"a roddick like forehand"...i call that a classic federer forehand !
KikasisIluvya 3 weeks ago
@KikasisIluvya well at the time, it was a roddick-like forehand. Now they'd call a federer forehand nadal-like or djokovic-like

there's something about roddick that brings out the best in Fed... so many classic moments when they play (usually that fed wins)

I hate those people who compare Federer with Jesus. I mean, he is great, but he's not Federer.
