  • There are arch-type demons, whose sole duty is to keep people bound to false & ineffectual

religious practises. They've had years of practise ie: they're good at it. Jesus came to set the captives free - those captives being religious who (borderline) believe in the existence of a god - but haven't a leg to stand on. They are not saved, they are not covered by His blood & by & large they're not happy. Jesus Christ & no other is the author of our faith. Say YES TO JESUS & GET A LIFE!

  • The book of James Says Religion is vein! Look that up instead of attacking truth with no scriptural text or anything to back it up.

  • Don't you mean, religious hypocrites, Jesus was against religious hypocrites not religious people. By demonizing religious people you are judging all religious people,

a hasty generalization in my opinion Pastor Mark. Sorry but your video just shows your hatred for organized religion. I consider myself religious and am personally offended by your video. Why not preach of something about Christs love and reflect that rather than demonizing religious people as anti-Christs. God bless u.

  • @ddo1101 I think it is fairly obvious that he means religious hypocrites. I also think demonizing is a strong word. He understands that people who are religious hypocrites take the law over love. If you wish to learn about how to love like Jesus you must also know what not to do. These religous hypocrites drag people down. This also only a very small part of a larger sermon among probley hundreds of sermons he has done. Removing religous hypocracy to return to love is a good thing.

  • @TMDmusicman If he meant religious hypocrites he would have said it. He said "Religion is the enemy of Jesus" Sorry friend but that is a sweeping statement. Pastor Mike is stuck with the Pharisees and apply their image to all religions and religious people. The pharisees did not accept Jesus, there lies the difference. By continuing with this divisive preaching Pastor Mike is hurting the body of Christ. He should "stand in the gap" and not widen it lest he be the hypocrite he hates. Peace to u

  • May I know what your definition of religion or religious is?

  • JESUS>RELIGION

  • "We don't need religion, we need Jesus." How...about...both...? The separation of the two doesn't compute to me.

  • What's wrong with religious people these days is they like to pretend that they're not religious people.

  • @Hufflewaffle Thats because being born again is more do with a relationship than a religion.

Even Jesus struggled with the bearde religious leaders who wanted HIM crucified.

Heaven may seem strange but the Lord Jesus will be no stranger to those who are in HIM.

  • @Thechristiancullen Yes, a relationship with a religious deity based on a religious belief taking the form of religious ritual practices as part of a religious congregation etc etc..

Seriously, start thinking for yourselves. You are being duped.

  • @Hufflewaffle Actually religion and atheism kill God by nailing him to the cross. If Jesus turned up to most churches and Mosques today he would still be crucified and filmed live on Al-Jazeera.

Acts3v15 you killed the Author of life, whom God raised from the dead

  • @Thechristiancullen Um, so now you're saying that believing in a personal deity along with not believing in a personal deity has resulted in the death of a personal deity?

  • @Hufflewaffle No. I am saying do not confuse religion with Jesus.

A born again christian is more of a relationship than a religion. ie heaven may seem strange but the Lord Jesus Christ will be no stranger to those who are in Christ.

  • @Thechristiancullen Ok, so now you're saying that you don't believe in God? You don't think Christ is the son of God?

You just claim to have a 'relationship' with a random man who may (or may not) have lived and died 2000 years ago??

  • @Hufflewaffle Jesus is God in flesh; the WORD of God became flesh and we beheld his glory.

God is not some distant being but became flesh. It is your sin of indifference that kills God by nailing HIM to the cross.

  • @Thechristiancullen MY indifference?? Its YOU who claims to not worship God. You are being duped my non-religious friend.

  • @Hufflewaffle Are you muslim, mormon, catholic or atheist?

  • Attention Christians everywhere: You are RELIGIOUS. No matter how you define your faith. It is RELIGION.There is nothing wrong with it. Start OWNING the word instead of taking the cowardly route of pointing to "others" who you negatively label "religious". That's cowardly. Everyone else in the world calls you religious, and you fit the very definition of it. Again: START OWNING THE WORD. It's both ignorant and arrogant not to.

  • but because what HE did for me. He loved me first, and I will do my best to do on to others as He did unto me first. Crossing myself and saying half meaningful prayers only served as constant reminder that there is a God that I should pray to that is good. Thank God for it.NOT that I knew HIM or HIS real will for my life. May God bless you and may he give you wisdom not to argue with each other (he pointed that out) and instead focus on saving LOST souls that you WERE asked to do as a Christian.

  • WORD... Which I am just starting to make up for after so many lost years in which I belived my traditional prayers were sufficient to do the job. However, unlike many religious people I read my Bible nightly, few verses at random... NEVER relay understood it until I came to end of myself after finally being convicted of my sinfulness. It really was like veil was lifted of my eyes and words were not empty any more... They were real, live and they finally made seance. Not because of what I did

  • If you REALY knew who Jesus was, this wouldn't even make it in to an argument. But just for argument's sake, I was born in to "traditional" church family. Only things that I learned from them really good were rituals and traditions, with few Bible story's. Church placed BIG DEAL on everything tradition... I came to a point of wondering what and weather I belived what I was brought up to believe/live. My FAITH did not come from RELIGION, but HIS SAVING GRACE, and my investment in to reading HIS

  • I have a suggestion. Religion has come to exactly the point that he points it out to be. It is NOT spiritual, but traditional. So dictionary or not, it is what it is and it is not what it is not. SIMPLE. Faith is something that to most REAL Christians suggests REAL relationship between self and our Savior Jesus Christ. It means following God's Word, dying to self, loving others, forgiving them as you have been forgiven and LIVING YOUR FAITH not pretend acting for public while dirty on inside.

  • So what about this: "Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world." (James 1:27)

Relationship is based on emotion; (true) religion is based on truth. I believe both are necessary in Christianity.

  • Anyone who believes in anything spiritual within the context of tradition/community IS RELIGIOUS. You Mark Driscoll, are religious. Religion is NOT as you define it. Please stop trying to redefine the term in negative ways.

  • @61shotbeehive

You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. you're just upset because YOUR definition of "religious" is different than HIS definition. you have no ground to stand on to say that he is wrong.

  • @KennyMcKnight PLEASE. Here is the dictionary definition of "religious" from Merriam-webster:1. relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity. 2: of, relating to, or devoted to religious beliefs or observances. 3a : scrupulously and conscientiously faithful b : fervent, zealous. Pretty well defines ALL CHRISTIANS. Amen? Not MY OPINION. Fact. Try to find the Driscoll definition from a reliable source. Have a religious day. God bless.

  • Even though there are people inside the church, who really don't have a real relationship with Jesus, they're just there because of tradition.

  • I'm surprised my computer screen didn't collapse from the weight of all the irony spouting from this video.

  • Apes claiming to know more than they can. How embarrassing.

  • I'm not religious, I just subscribe to a certain set of beliefs and cultural values that governs my day to day life. Those other that do that exact thing, they're the religious ones, but not me, oh boy!

  • sounds a lot like mark driscoll..lol love ya mark

  • isn't the golden rule, love one another or something? isn't that what they're for. they're golden rule is stating what they're for not against. i also love how you seem to think all religious people are exactly the same eg. all religious people attack you personally when faced with conflicting beliefs. as a result this argument is too simple. ironic considering part of your argument was that christians are lazy about certain issues.

  • I don't have religion. I have faith in my salvation through Christ Jesus. There is a difference.

"Religious" people tend to throw stones, its like being in elementary school again with everyone going "oooooo you did something bad!". A lot of people tend to forget important passages Like John 8. Every person is guilty of sin, so don't criticize others for what they have or think you are any better. Love the people around you, have joy in your heart, and help others in their times of need. <3

  • Haha I need to punch myself in the face XD

  • True :) So true :)) Women can preach, Mark, you just proved it :)

  • all of u talking so bad about religion it hilarious because most of u have no concept of ur christian roots at all.. Why do u think u have that bible in ur hand it came from religious people.. why do u think u have a christian faith it come from religious people who were killed on ur behalf so that u have a faith.. its sad protestantism wipes out over 1000 years of Christianity.. i wish u would understand ur roots i am not roman i am eastern orthodox..

  • I got the strangest conviction from this video(which is fantastic). I am angry. And I'm angry at religious people. I'm so angry that I'm sinning over it. I work with some of them religious folks and there is no morals in them. And they literally steal from you. Ad when you confront them, they attack your character. There, now I'm mad again. What a cruel world. I'm always getting the short end of the stick, aren't I. And Christ would respond by saying "you have no right to complain until you ha

  • Hahahaha :P This reminds me of my mother. LOL hahaha :P Wow its crazy. OMG :p HAHAHAH...

  • RELIGIOUS PEOPLE MAKE ME SICK. THEY ARE SO SELF CENTERED!

  • I'll tell you whats wrong with them. They add works to faith in Christ, and they fly in the face of passages like Ephesians 2:8-9.Thats what they do(contradict the word of God).

  • @MrUrosSrb so u can just be a whore monger and be ok cuz u have jesus in ur heart right.. when jesus separates the sheep from the goats what is christ talking about? please read ur bible a little more.. of course we are saved by grace thats what blesses good works..but dont tell me ur a christian living any way you want just because u said a lil prayer.. good works will testify if what u confess on out of ur lips to be true..

  • ..."tidy answers instead of messy lives" @pastor Driscoll, so true!

  • HIGH VOICE!

  • is he talking about religion or legalism? I'm always confused when a preacher seems to use religious as a synonym for anything bad.

  • man I feel bad having watched this , I need to be less religiouse and more loving and forgiving

  • @TheXanderGrim Thats awesome! The Lord is doing a work in you!

  • I don't give a damn about anything!

I live each day to the fullest to make myself and my friends happy, and then I'll die.

And I am very happy with that existence, regardless of religion.

    \ξ・∀・)/

  • I know what you are talking about because my dad was a pastor and when I turn 21 I messed up alot but still believed in god.Recently when I was ministering to athiest on line I was touch and ever sense I feel no worries and so much love for people. I was invited to a bible study and I felt like people didn't want me there and it was hard for me to contrate on god I guess that I am used to a warm welcome. I love my church but the best thing is when I am alone with god at night

  • I fully support the Westboro Baptist Church and their cause.

  • "By the way, I wrote my own Book." Huh?

  • I don't feel it's necessary to argue about 'religion' as a word and all of that, especially if we are all believers. It's important to understand the heart of what Mark is saying about these 'religious' people. I've never really associated myself with religion because of the negative connotation I have of it, but I can see the other viewpoint.

  • I gotta admit. As a devout Christian, I would really like to stop hearing Christians battling against "religion" in order to sound cooler to the general populous. I am religious. But my religion is defined by relationality. Religion always involves relationship... Stop fighting against this idea, and deal with the Christians you call 'religious' from a Biblical perspective. People won't be convinced when we say, I'm not religious, I have a relationship!

  • @chronicmango What he is saying that Christianity is more like a relationship then a religion! Also some people tend to be legalistic and tell tell christians how they should look and who we should hang out with instead of realizing even Jesus hung forgave a prostitute and had dinner with a tax collector which in those days you just don't do but how are we supposed to minister unless we branch out and stop judging

  • @ada2step I totally get that. The point is, all religion involves relationship. Instead of saying, "it's not a religion, it's a relationship" we just need to own up to the fact that we practice religion. It's not a bad thing at all. We just need to show the love of Christ to people, and care for the poor and the sick, and show what a Christian life looks like. Not tell everyone we aren't religious. Christians make "religion" distinct in ways seculars don't. It just confuses people.

  • @chronicmango What he is talking about is sometimes we get so fixate on religion that we loose focus on the relationship. Like for instance I have met Christians that are so focused on the religion part that they start juding there peers and they loose the relationship with jesus. Also sometimes they force themselves on people and turn off people to god I have seen it. God sends us devine appointments and he lets us know when someone is ready! Other religions call themseves Christians too

  • I rather believe Christ rather than religion.

  • Just to say that I understood this video. Love God love your neighbour.

  • You forgot the most important problem of religious people:

#9: They believe that words spoken and written by men thousands of years ago were actually made by God, and thus give credence to silly superstitions and outdated conceptions like 'sin'.

The word 'religious' has a meaning, and you fall smack-dab in the middle of it.

  • @Hooya2 I'm religious, and I'm so glad someone actually called this crap out. The word "religion" is exactly what what christianity is about, and yet christians have some weird desire to disassociate themselves with that word.

  • @psychometaldrummer because most religious people are lost in there own idealistic views. I just got a straight up love for Christ. With no rules to how i should dress or look. I love it.

  • @ItsOkThatYouSuck That's not my point. What you're trying to call "religious" would really be better defined as "self-righteous," which is a completely different thing, and I dislike it as much as you do. Religion is defined as a set of beliefs about the creation of the universe, outlined in a code of morals followed by groups of people. That seems like it's pretty much exactly what Christianity is. Jesus didn't criticize the religious because of their religion, it was because of their hearts.

  • So...let's see if i get this right..

Religious people don't change their mind. Okay...do you all change your minds on religion?

Relegious people can't apologise and say theyre wrong? A bit generalising?

I've got a Pentecostal friend and he never said sorry for mocking my faith...never...it's all funny to him...

So easy to be a christian,so hard to be a Catholic.well i presume easier and more non-demanding is better...

    let's all be cowards ...

  • Religion is an attitude and condition of man. We were created for a personal deep loving relationship with God and the people around us... thats what God intended when he first created us. Love God and love people and you will not go wrong. Seek to avoid sin not to be holy but in order to please God and accept that you cannot attain holiness without Jesus... and above all else realise that u were not created to serve in church or fullfill a religious destiny but to love Jesus... simple.

  • BWwwuhahaha, I have no strong convictions. Now I will be compelled and led by any half-baked charlaton who stands up and tells me what he doesn't support. Certainly Mars Hill isn't critical. Pastor Mark has never been critical of cowardly men, the deterioration of marriage, a sinful culture, the proliferation of abortion and prostitution. But these are good things to be against. Religious people always quibble over meaningless things. Hypocrisy anyone ??? Right . . . (oh by the way I apologize)

  • hey man.. thanks for preaching this. I think in a lot of ways I'm a religious guy. But I don't wanna be.. I'm sure you're a totally busy guy, but if you see this, take the time to pray for religious people. and to the dude who missed the "like" button, go read one of the Gospels through again.

  • God loves people more than anything!!!

  • What's wrong if I think JAY-Z a genius???!!!! :)

  • I do agree with a lot of what is being said in this video. However, the term 'religious' bothers me. I am Catholic, I love Jesus, and I want and try to serve him. Sometimes the term seems to target ritual rather than hypocrisy. Rules in and of themselves are not the issue. Jesus never abolished the law. He made it light so it was not a burden to us. A lot of Christians will say Catholics are not Christians, they are 'religious.' Which is exactly the attitude that this video is addressing.

  • @nahaingil i can tell you, for sure, this is not targeted at just catholics. his church isnt catholic but its targeted at all christians who uphold the law and morals more than they do jesus. youre right, jesus did not abolish the law, he is the fulfillment of it and its through a sober understanding of the gospel (with the holy spirit) and constant repentance, that we can be freed from hypocrisy and things keeping us from living as we ought. thankful for grace! also, listen to the entire sermon

  • this hit me right b/n to eyes and praise god that i'm starting to see where i've been religious; but god's word is offensive to unbelievers. although, others may think we're being religious when negative stuff comes out of our mouths, i think it's a wisdom issue and learning to be sensitive to the holy spirit when being led to share the truth of the bible. don't let the fear of being percieved as religious cripple you from sharing the gospel... so long as you are, indeed, sharing THE GOSPEL

  • real talk

  • Comment removed

  • What's wrong with religious people?

Instead of listening to this video and being convicted of sin and repenting they chose to pick fights and call the people who are calling them to repent false teachers.

  • @Barnabas64 they ARE false teachers, they are preaching shit that we KNOW is not true

  • @wearestarstuffsagan Who? Christians?

  • Hey people... stop fighting with all of the religious people on this video. You are wasting your time.

  • Amen!

  • So would reposting this on Facebook qualify as getting "sucked in"? ;^)

Seriously... b/c it certainly addresses some issues that have come up recently... :^\

  • The truth can be negative sometimes people, we need to consider that. The good news of the gospel needs to be told, but so does that bad news and the ignorance of the religious and the like, because its also the truth. We can't dumb down something as serious as what the Bible teaches us.

  • I am against sin! And against false teachers like Mark Driscoll!

  • @TCMAO0 How is Mark a false teacher?

  • @bellakazza Watch my video entitled ---> "Is Mark Driscoll Disqualified?"

  • Comment removed

  • @bellakazza You are making a mistake in telling me I am overreacting. These are Seminary 101 mistakes like a doctor forgetting to look at an X-Ray before doing surgery. There is no excuse for these errors - none!

  • @TCMAO0 OK, then please, explain to me what he said wrong.

Are we looking at this from a calvinist view point?

  • Not to be negative or anything... Emphasizing the positive and only the positive is the hallmark of this type of evangelical Christianity. I think they do this because they want to hide or at least shade for a time the darker side of the love in Christianity which basically comes around as, "Jesus loves you, this I know because the Bible tells us so... And if you don't love him back you're an unrepentant sinner and you'll go to hell (what ever form that takes) FOREVER when you die." Continued...

  • @themanofearth Don't get me wrong I prefer this kind of Christianity over the "Fire and Brimstone" preachers but at least they're up front with what they believe. This type of preacher just comes across like a used car salesman trying to point out the good qualities of a car - beautiful paint job and great interior - while not mentioning (or rather so they don't have to mention) that it's mechanically unsound. Except with this car you don't get it till you die so he has to keep selling it.

  • @themanofearth you obviously didn't watch his "what you don't want to hear about heaven and hell" video just to your right. the one he posted up 2 videos ago. ya....go ahead and take a look at that vid.

  • @jryuwah Yes I did miss that one thanks for pointing that out. So he is honest. Good for him. All the more it was a horrific sermon and he became a sick despicable person in my view and all that much more of a intellectual invalid for embracing (wholeheartedly) the ridiculous and failed notion of Pascal's Wager. On top of that, if Hell does exist, the god of Abraham is a malicious malevolent sadist who loves us in the same way as a wife-beating husband loves his family.

  • I like the part about punching yourself in the face.

  • i enjoy your sermons, but sometimes i feel like you can be negative as well... but i agree. religion is annoying

  • Awesome, Thank you for all the knowledge you fill me with time and time again!!! Love how you say it straight and don't mess around!

  • Thank you Jesus for freedom from religion.

  • @IntelligentRectangle Oh the irony lol.

  • God bless you...such a good sermon. I need to watch this everyday.
