Great song but those people are now running the country to their ideal, we're broke, fighting multiple wars and poverty. Ideas are great but not every idea works. San Fran has banned almost everything that makes life there fun

Very popular for all American Servicemen in SE Asia at this time. B-Girls thought this was their "ticket" to the land of the big BX. Only "Welcome Home" we got was from the flight crew of out MAC Charter. Changed clothes at Travis AFB and still had protesters spit at us in "civies" and called "baby killers" Now they are professors at out institutions of higher learning. No respect for what we did without question.
All of you saying you wish you were in San Francisco in 67 are believing what the media tells you. They make it sound glorified. 67 San Francisco was a town infested with 15 year old hoodlums stealing, fighting, and doing hardcore drugs. I support marijuana and use it everyday. But the way that movies and tv depict these festivals and such are just a mask. It wasn't sweet caring hippies who are smoking pot and dropping acid. It was tweakers shooting up black tar heroin and smoking crack.
@DJdutchBoi My wife and i were there 1965-1980 .We only saw the "light places" and never "the dark places" that you comment on here. With many wars going on, the constant threat of nuclear war, and vietnam on the horizon the times were certainly NOT peaceful, however, faced with all that violence, the peace movement blossomed and for a golden year or 2 we really thought we could change the world for the better. We really hope another future youth generation can succeed, . . . where we failed.
Good song the had in those day's and everybody was hopping for a better world (more or less counting on it; for example just banks for the good people; not the creedy ones and of course peace)
Hey Dutch Man, I am in my early fifties and yes considered "old" as well. Who cares this is some of the best melodic music. It makes me happy to hear and makes me sing!!!! out loud which is what this is all about. I love so many of the songs from before my time. I grew up listening to Elvis Roy Orbison and the Beatles my parents were young and loved music. I used to put the needle on the records when I was five. So music has always been around me, thank God!
Mourn the days when music stirred souls and people really dared to dream. Mourn that our souls are being crucified daily by those who see us only as sheep to be slaughtered, consumers to be fleeced. Mourn the days when child like innoncence still prevailed and thought that it could make a social difference. Mourn, but then rise up and realize that we can all still go 'to San francisco.' Make the journey before its too late.
@robbintoppin62 dont know if you are a brother or a sister, but your words clarify the current world today. Just wanna say a public thankx for touching this old defensive heart. I spent 20 years of my life in the Military of the United States, Songs like this were cool back then and the few times I've seen SFrancisco, I was impressed. You just maybe one of the Righeous generation we old men have heard about from our chaplains and ministers. God Bless ya !
I moved to San Francisco from Florida 8 months back. There is no way I am moving back to Florida or anywhere else in US. This is the place to be-- one of the most vibrant, dynamic and progressive cities of this time. Love the people, food and the diversity here.
I was born in San Francisco and am an old flower child now. Every time I visit the city I have a wonderful time...special things seem to happen....except for being there during the bigass earthquake! Beautiful song, beautifully sung, beautiful city!
Lucky enough to have been teen-ager at this moment. To attend Pink Floyd, Led Zep,Stones and giant concerts, having love without AIDS, free to experiment many things, riding real bonnie bikes, Best years of a man life. But aren't the best years those when we are young ?
People we should bring LOVE back to our cities, families, streets, not greed, hate and hunger. We should share food, happiness, clothes with poor. Life is short, lets live it together.
And indeed it was a strange vibration. But, a powerful one if only for the fact that is showed people could be quite reasonable to each other. Back in the UK people thought the hippies were from Mars or something similar. This was the beginning of the softening of attitudes.
@MrCameron7 You should watch the movie "Midnight in Paris" there might be a lot of things and references that you don't get in that movie, but the whole point of that movie is to appreciate the time you're living in. Yes those were good times, but if you keep wishing you lived back then, you'll miss all the great stuff of today! Think about it. In 2011 you can enjoy the same music people enjoyed in the 1960's and also the 70's, 80's 90's and the 00's.
@MrCameron7 well I'm 15 and i don't. Why? Because its possible that the future can be just as great if not better. It might look bleak now but eh theirs always hope and who knows maybe you might start the new "summer of love"
@MrCameron7 Many thanks to you!!:)) I know some people in their late teens/early twenties and some of them haven't even heard of Jimi Hendrix o_O How embarrassing....
@MrCameron7 Why? Surely you have more access to this music in 2011 because of the internet? You can't possibly know you would have listened to this music back in the 60s. And what does your age matter? Just enjoy the music and fuck off with the generic YouTube comments, it's all you see on every video these days...
@MrCameron7 Every generation (including the 60's) has it's brilliant artists and musician, surrounded by an ocean of mediocracy and crap. Look beyond the mainstream and you'll find lots of hidden gems, even in today's culture. Watch Midnight In Paris if you still don't see what I'm talking about.
If Youre Goiiiing To San Fran-cisco You Be Sure To Wear Some Flowers In Your Haiir To Proof How Gay U Are...Just kiddin' the song is pretty catchy..5/5
Oh there's some "gentle people" there, alright. Smashing bank windows, crapping in public, spreading VD, just like their hippie forefathers.. What a crock.
Scott had a nice voice, didn't he? This is from a time when "singers" had to be able to sing -- no Autotune®, no stage full of hyper-kinetic dancers, no "styling" of the song...
honestly i am ashamed of my self. when i first heard i was like like, this is the stupidest song ever. then i deeply listened to it and it made me cry. this is one of the most touching songs ever. yes, they did do alot of bad things. but god does everything for a reason. and if all that didnt happen, imagaine were wed be now? and @tedovsky i fully agree. dont listen to them assholes who think yall were bad. there jsut haters
people i made friends with when i was there in 1988 drove me over golden gate 9 times in a row i had a week there and its a beautiful city, pure class this song again no sex or smut needed to show just how good this really is , tears me up this one good job posting it :))
That is one of the nicest and heart inspiring comments I have ever read on You Tube. I was not even alive in 1967 but your comment makes me wish I had been there and even seen you and your lovely wife. I sincerely hope that when another summer of love does come you and your wife will be there also. Thanks for making my day!!!!
It's 1968, walking down my street, with five young lassies chasing me. Kaftan on, with long hair (very long). My older sister Pat had fixed my beads, moustache etc.
We were all so happy and innocent then. This IS THE song that puts a big lump in my throat from that era.
MIKE CONNOR, my great friend this was also his Fav track. Sadly he died at 39 years old. I dedicate this to him.
Robin Topping 31st October 2011 Mauchline Ayrshire Scotland
i am dutch. And was there in san francisco during "the summer of love" in 1967 having landed in america a couple of years earlier with my wife in 1965. Old now, but still with my child-hood sweetheart living in amsterdam. Nowadays sadly, greed seems to have won the day judging by the way people in general have no more time for spirituality and sharing and just talk of rent and bills and making more and more money. However, we still hope that one day, another great " summer of love" will arrive.
@TEDOVSKY Fuck you it was your generation created this economic crash when u lot began running the place...with light touch regulation....fuck off.....you lot had it easy in 60s free education etc etc now we the youth are suffering...because of your mismanagement from Harold WIlson right through CallaghanThatcher Blair to Gordon Brown///while u lot run off into the sun with massive pensions...fuck off...blair was a hippy like u....
@TEDOVSKY that was well said...i am only 35 but the times have changed....Money has blinded love......even my self i find me chasing money..it is from t.v. and the music that is being made...we need john lennon back
@TEDOVSKY I wouldn't generalise the Dutch situation to the whole world. I've lived in Australia and Holland and spent time in San Fransciso. Of the three I would say Holland is by far the least spiritual. At least in San Fran and Australia you can still go to a yoga/qi gong/meditation class without being accused of being "soft in the head" as in Holland, where I would never dare tell anyone because of this.
@TEDOVSKY Keep hoping, my friend! When I was in San Fran a while back, I took the Muni to the Haight just to see what was there, and, of course, the summer of '67 was long gone. Bums and beggars. But, the "summer of love" thing was co-opted long before the media made a sham of the whole idea. Interesting times!
@TEDOVSKY I completely agree with you, although I regret that I have to... I wish I had been born a couple of years earlier and was able to witness these beautiful years with my own eyes
@TEDOVSKY Oh man, you are so right, I just wish that were the case, It's a crazy old world nowadays, I hope change will come, we need it don't we. People can learn a lot from guy's like you, I must admit I've always had a sense of spiritulality but for me it's rastafari ....unity, freedom and onelove.
@TEDOVSKY I know, let's hope that... I myself as a student have seen the world where all people talk about is studying, grades, achievements and future plans... I mean seriously people JUST LIVE AND BE WHO YOU ARE AND LOVE WHAT AND -WHOEVER YOU LOVE! I'm sooooo sick of this circus of greed and faking.
@TEDOVSKY I sense a lot of changes these days. I;m 27 and I see the younger generation in their teens and early 20s really care about whats going on. I really am pulling for this new generation to make some great changes!
@rsohlich1 The problem then people knew what they wanted changed.
Now the are told by media clip guru types what to think or want & not enough brains to think through to the end of the problem. Recently had a discussion through youtube. About solar power youngster had not even considered what I explained to him. Told him to think all problems to the end not the first happy media byte. Polite & took my thoughts on board. I may have done him more good than he realizes yet.
I wish you the best. I came home to hate; and having things thrown at me that were not plesant. We are not a perfect people; but we do try to help. The people who do the actual work need to be forgiven for doing their duty.
@rsohlich1 Yeah we people growing up in the 60's tried to change things like Protest the Viet Nam war and Segregation and where did it get us? Some of the same people that protested the War are now in Washington promoting war all over the world. The USA has been the aggressor in every war since the Korean War in 1952 and if you do not know we still have thousands of troops still on the North/South Korean Border in 2012. Nothing will change as long as Oil Money rules the world !

@rsohlich1 Yes, for the 1st time since the 60's, I think I see the same glimmer of hope. The lost generation has been with us for way too long--- decades now. It was great to see people beginning to oppose the establishment for a change. I was a 60 child and would have never had it any other way. I would not trade in my life now, to add 10 or even 20 extra years of my life, to have missed the 60s generation and and all its hope and love for one another. Our generation had character
@TEDOVSKY The music of the sixties will never be repeated so there will never be a summer of love again as that is what epitomised it. Your right about people and no time for living, with the advent of computors they were supposed to do the work and give us more leisure time but all that`s happened is that we know have the time to do even more work, we have pretty well lost it really but hey ! we still have this fantastic music don`t we ?
I'm 18 and I have never been in San Francisco, but I love this city, because of bands like QMS, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother & The Holding Company
San Francisco is a very unique city! It is so cosmopolitan and still has its own history, which creates a wonderful feeling when you are walking down Market St, Dolores Park, Golden Gate park, The beach (ANY).... It is such a beautiful place to be although homeless people are almost taking over the city and some times it stinks... lol
I was still at school when this song came out. Wish I'd been older, would have enjoyed being a hippy! Will never forget this song, part of my ealy teenage years. Never hear anything this good now.
happy happy days when i wore beads flowers and was a week end hippy !couldnt afford to be one full time but can honestly say was the best time of my life this song brings back such memories
St. Francis, the patron saint of animals and nature, would roll over in his grave if he saw the city that bears his name covered with concrete and gazillions of people. Come to think of it, those San Francisco earthquakes, rock and roll -- that's St. Francis rolling over in his grave. The San Francisco Great Earthquake happened in 1906, same year the Shriners started their animal-cruel circus. C'est la vie, c'est le mort.
Vejam nesta semana (26/09/2011) postagem da Shere W., no blog University Primer XXI e no site Shannon Ballanne pages ... Chemistrails -- The Planet beneath the bars of beliefs. Thanks.

I don't know the comtemporary music scene (that phrase dates me as a "60's guy") but I would like to know who today either male or female artist could do the best cover of this song?
tiempos aquéllos de desenfreno, desubicación y confusión en todo el planeta. No sabíamos lo que queríamos o hacia donde ir, sin embargo, marcó un hito esta época en la presencia del hombre por la faz del planeta
i still get all teary eyed whenever i hear this beautiful song. having spent some time out in SF; even though it was some 20 yrs after this song was released, i saw first hand what it was all about. i've been back twice and would go back in a heartbeat if given the chance.
NYC, SF and Paris - world's best 3 cities. Can't choose between them, but SF is the most livable out of the 3 and has a kind of dreamy quality about it. Have been to LA too, but that's a nasty hole compared to SF. There is definitely something very special about SF.
ESTA CANCIÓN DEMUESTRA QUE NO HACE FALTA HACER NUMERITOS DE BAILES NI NADA POR EL ESTILO PARA HACER DE ELLA UNA BUENA CANCIÓN A MI PADRE LE ENCANTA Y A MI ES UNA CANCIÓN QUE NO SE PORQUE CASI HACE LLORAR DE LO BONITA QUE ES Y LOS RECUERDO DE CUANDO SIEMPRE MI PADRE LE ESCUCHABA Y LA SIGUE ESCUCHANDO
ESTA CANCION DEMUESTRA QUE NO HACE FALTA HACER NU,ERITOS DE BAILES NI NADA POR EL ESTILO PARA HACER DE ELLA UNA BUENA CANCION A MI PADRE LE ENCANTA Y A MI ES UNA CANCION QUE NO SE PORQUE CASI HACE LLORAR DE LO BONITA QUE ES Y LOS RECUERD DE CUANDO SIEMPRE MI PADRE LE ESCUCHABA
San Fran Cisco - you see what happens when people abandon morals and society turns into "LORD OF THE FLIES" WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO SAN FRAN ITS A LUNATIC ASYLUM FULL OF THE INSANE THE DANGEROUS, CRIME OUT OF CONTROL, DISEASE OUT OF CONTROL THE BURN OUTS THE HOMOS THE DRUG ADDICTS AND THE SKANKS .BUT THE SONG IS NICE. LETS FACE IT SAN FRAN IS AN EXPERIMENT THAT FAILED HORRIBLY!
@MuslimLoveJewishCock I know! I heard your mother lives there, and gawd knows the people she charges 5 bucks for blow jobs have to be the most vile and disgusting people ever.
good for you!!!! Please, is that all you can say? Surely you must have something better than that in your bag of wit!!! keep insultingyou keyboard commando. Put on your super hero mask and get out your anal beads.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
My father used to play me music of the '60s '70s and '80s when I was little. I remembered this song, and I can't describe my feelings right now. All I know is that I really missed those times when I was kid.

I spent 20 years of my life in the Military of the United States, Songs like this were cool back then and the few times I've seen SFrancisco, I was impressed. You just maybe one of the Righeous generation we old men have heard about from our chaplains and ministers. God Bless ya !

I dedicate this to him.

RanetkiFan 1 week ago
@TEDOVSKY The music of the sixties will never be repeated so there will never be a summer of love again as that is what epitomised it. Your right about people and no time for living, with the advent of computors they were supposed to do the work and give us more leisure time but all that`s happened is that we know have the time to do even more work, we have pretty well lost it really but hey ! we still have this fantastic music don`t we ?

San Francisco is a very unique city! It is so cosmopolitan and still has its own history, which creates a wonderful feeling when you are walking down Market St, Dolores Park, Golden Gate park, The beach (ANY)....
