  • Fun. Reminds me of my Amtrak train running right in the middle of the boulevard at New Iberia LA.

  • OH MY GOD. STOP THAT TRAIN!! IT RAN A RED LIGHT.

  • Viva Usa ...Viva America ...Viva Us trains..... beautiful country....

  • In America at least, you cannot drive trains. You can operate them or "run" them. But no driving them. Also, it isn't a street level crossing, it's a grade crossing. It's a level crossing if it's in Europe. Nice vid though!

  • try sleeping lessoning to that,,, lol

  • Why not just put rubber tyres on and drive anywhere lol

  • oh my god! nice rare UNPATCHED SP unit!!!!

  • cool, looks like Oakland ca & nice rare Cryo-trans reefer.

  • Very good video but, I have never seen !), a train drive directly through a Town and B), so many roads that end up having to cross the track in such short a distance!

Really worrying for how and why this sort of planing was actually allowed to be done.

    Take care,

    mrbluenun

  • @mrbluenun This is my hometown. New Albany, Indiana is an old city, founded in 1813. This is the old Monon mainline. It served several industries that were located within the city. The old Monon lines also street-run in Bedford and Lafayette. I do not know when that line was laid and exactly why it street runs, but considering railroad activity in this city dates to 1847 I assume they were no too worried about horses with wagons and buggies with the crossings.

  • where is it ...please?

  • @francksol New Albany, Indiana, across the Ohio River from Louisville KY.

  • Can I ask why did they put the rails right in the middle of a street?

  • dats gramps for ya.hatin da young generation.

  • Very well done, interesting video!

Better, if possible, would be to video from a higher position, like a roof, because with telephoto it is not possible to discern distance.

The dog "playing chicken" may have been a block or two ahead of the train. Same with drivers continuing to cross.

A higher position would reveal that.

  • @robertgift Running a long/telaphoto type lens will fool us 3D people in a 2D video. We have no real way to judge distance.

  • @IMRROcom Height - looking down would allow one to perceive distance better.

  • Do All the crossings go off at the same time?

  • That's got to be without a doubt, a huge nightmare for an engineer.

  • Interesting!

    Thank you.

People were not crossing right in front of the train.

  • @robertgift Obviously not. All of the intersecting streets had grade-crossing lights too, so they stopped when those came on. The train would have been moving no faster than 10-15 mph as well.

  • well at least theres some entertainment in that country lol

  • Now that's some redneck engineering.. set up the center lane for the railroad line!

  • 0:55 biker speeds across the tracks and almost gets hit

  • @biganya nope. not evan close. you can see a car after him about 6 or 7 secods later.

  • Looks like a poor country

  • Just for the record: CSX just announced they are ceasing operations on this line. The line is a part of the old MONON Railroad line from Louisville to Chicago, and it looks looks like its days are numbered. At one point this line saw 20 to 30 trains per day, now it's about to fade into oblivion.

  • that car and dog around 0:24~0:28 were almost hit by that train...

  • this video really annoys me for some reason but im not sure if its because of the noise the train makes or if its just the cars that are annoying me

  • This is great to watch. Thanks for sharing. We had some street running in the mid 80's in Austin but it all stopped and the tracks were paved over.

  • That is not a street level crossing, that's what we railroad fans like to call Street Running.

  • @trainman122 Correct, and over in Europe, street track would be called a tramway no matter what runs on it, whether streetcar or train. Also, "level crossing" is the European term for grade crossing.

  • @irishchieftain hmm, interesting.

  • I know Indiana isn't exactly full of geniuses, but this is PATHETIC. All of these people drive worse than Tijuana drivers!

  • Zo'n schitterend straatbeeld! Geweldig!

    Great!

  • where is that?

  • I think the dogs seen it all before, but a great video.

  • Indeed! Thanks!

  • Now there's something you don't see every day.

  • Unless you happen to live right here, no, that or you visit this video every day and then you could see this everyday! LOL

  • Another area where trains run in the street is Burlington, New Jersey (where an interurban runs).

Was there once an interurban here?

  • Not as far as I know but I am not from around here so I have no real way of knowing for sure!

  • hey i saw this on rail-videos

  • Whats that?

  • it means that this is one of the videos on rail-videos check it out

  • whats the address so I can see.

  • i send the link in message, since comment cannot do links

  • awesome an entire sight for railroad type vids! I think this is awesome, thanks!

  • crazy pooch lol

  • awesome video! the dog is suicidal!!!!! awesome sp unpatched!

  • What is "unpatched" mean?

  • In the first segment of the video, the train is going much slower and is much further away from the people and vehicles than it appears. The apparent closeness of objects to the train is an optical illusion caused by the camera's telephoto lens. However, it's still amazing they would continue to run trains down a street like that in this day and age. Fascinating stuff.

  • Indeed there is a wide angle lens however there were still a good deal of ppl crossing like nut cases here.

  • I don't think this would be considered a main line track, would it?

Is it a company spur line to a main yard?

How many trains travel this route in one day?

  • This line runs at least 2-3 times a day from what I saw over the course of a few days.

  • is this still happening today? would be worth a visit

  • yes this line is still in service.

  • Only in New Albany. Im Surprised there isnt one death a week along 15th st. Everytime I'm down that way the signals are going off and there is no train comming. That has been goign on for 10+ years.

  • Have you ever called and reported it to the rail yard? If you have and they didnt do anything you can call to notify the police and even the NTSB or something and get that all fixed and maybe prevent something tragic from happening.

  • Cool video! I have never seen a train pass in the middle of the street like this.

Look at the that kid on the bike at the 56 second mark. Is he a nut???

  • I am glad you liked the video. The kid at the 56 second mark is a nut and on this day we also saw him riding down the track without a care for the safety for himself or others, the good news is that a local officer put the kid in the back of his car and the bike in his trunk, n doubt he will be grounded. LOL

  • @LIPodcastNetworkCom Do not let the long lens of the camera fool you. You also see a car cross after he did.

  • You were standing at Division Street. The train was coming down E 15th Street having turned around a corner at Beeler Street. Thanks Live Search Maps!

  • Thanks for the clarity there! Maybe you could give me a little better way of finding it on the google maps and I could mark it and link to it here so everyone else could see that. (thumbs up!)

  • There are quite alot of these railways in the US that share the road with cars over short distances.Quite fascinating!

  • Indeed there are, makes me wonder if there are as many in other places other then the US, as many countries are older and have less street crossings, makes you wonder is all.

  • In the uk IN Weymouth on the south coast trains used to run along the steets along the famous tramway

  • there a BNSF (ex-BN ex C&S) street running in Ft Collins CO on S.Mason Street

  • Who the hell is the city planner in this town? Kinda stupid.

  • There are many good reasons why there would be a crossing like this, so unless your from the area you have no basis of information to make an intelligent statement as such, please refrain from making pointless comments like this on my videos. Thank you very much!

  • Gots to love that dog :) lol

  • yeah, almost became hamburger in that one.

  • Trains street running are SO COOL!!!! Someday I'd like to live in a place where trains street run. You even caught an ex southern pacific engine un patched! That's rare!

  • what does unpatched mean?

  • Well usually when a railroad owns engines from another railroad that they took over they usually repaint the engines into the railroad that they now belong to, give it new numbers, or list the new railroads innitials somewhere on it. So if you find an engine from a railroad that's no longer around and it still has the original railroad name, number, and doesn't show the new railroads innitials you've got an unpatched engine!

  • Awesome thanks for the info on that, your the only one to date that I know of that has used the term and then been able to explain what it means, lol odd as that seems a guy around here looked at an engine nand claimed it was unpatched and when I asked him what that ment he couldnt explain at all. lol.

  • Seymour, Indiana is just as crazy on the railroad I work for. We run through the middle in a North and South direction. People try to beat us, and we are only doing 20mph because of the CSX diamond there we cross.

  • It is though the Switz are a bit better about street level crossings then India.

  • Those cars in that vid go with a cd i know from the bravery called no brakes.Them cars go with that name

  • could you maybe send a link or something so we know what you are talking about?

  • Superb! Seems they dont faff about with Health and Safety over there either like we have to put up with over here!

  • Where are you from?

  • Perhaps if the idiot driving the train would turn on his ditch lights...

  • you think lights would make a difference? Thats about as crazy as using hand grenades for mouse traps.

  • nice job, i think that those crossings where they street running are like suicidal

  • I agree, tho most ppl dont have any respect for trains.

  • YEP!!

  • City of New Albany, Indiana

  • Where was this?
