  • well, about the fruit, there is like one part with an orange in it and that's about it

  • JOHN THIS IS SERIOUSLY THE BEST BOOK. EVER. THANK YOU. you are amazing

  • I absolutely adore Looking for Alaska (though it did make me cry) I can't wait to go read this one!

  • Okay?

    Okay.

  • I bought this book on amazon and it arrived yesterday. I've just finished chapter 13 and I really don't want to finish it. I got so excited today to come home from college to read more!

The strange thing is, is that I am following a ton of youtubers like wheezy waiter and charlie mcdonell and they always mention the vlogbrothers but I never watched any of your videos until today for an unknown reason. I had no idea that John was one of the vloggers but I am very honoured and shall now subscribe!

  • This book is my favorite thing. Out of ALL OF THE THINGS!

  • I absolutely love how you were doing the video while traveling XD I lol'd during the pb face.

    Love you guys(:

  • I stayed up until 4 in the morning on a school night to finish this book, and it was totally worth it.

I laughed, I cried, I laughed while crying, and ranted at the book a little bit too. Thanks John for being one of the few teen lit authors who actually write profound and moving stories about the cruelest yet most beautiful truths of life, not vampires or werewolves or cliche fantasy crap. Essay over :)

  • you talk SO fast!

  • Am i the only one who knows that "ALL OF THE THINGS" came from hyperboleandahalf and not John Green?

  • @TheLoonster333 Probably, but John just made it more of a thing

  • @TheLoonster333 You are not alone, although it is true he made it more of a thing.

  • (naughty word) ;)

  • "ALL OF THE THINGS!" <-- Someone make a shirt, I'll buy it. o-o

  • Best book ever!! Right after Looking for Alaska...

  • haven't actually read any of his books, but i really want to...any recommendations on what to read first?? xx

  • @awesomelyizzy It really doesn't matter they are all AMAZING. My personal favorite was The Fault in Our Stars but i really did love them all.

  • @samruback awesome thanks :) xx

  • @awesomelyizzy the fault in our stars was the first one i read c: so amazing.

  • @jennnykennny cl :) i think i might read looking for alaska first though, saw it in a catalogue for like £3.50, so may as well xx

  • well in answer to the swallow question, i'm sure it would have to depend on whether it was an african or europian swallow ;) xx

  • Did anyone yet recieve a beautiful and very very rare signed bookplate? Because I haven't heard back yet :(

  • @MrMeriadock The email isnt meant to reply. And i havent got mine yet either.

  • @Alanallamas Hey, thanks for clearing that up :)

  • @MrMeriadock Welcome :) i dont expect to get mine for a while, being in England and all.

  • i did feel ALL OF THE THINGS. i was reading in the car during a 6 hour drive and my mom and bro were so confused to why i would suddenly start laughing then cry only minutes later

  • I finished TFiOS at work. I had to try not to cry so hard. My little cousin recently died of a rare form of cancer and I don't think I would have appreciated this book without knowing her an seeing what she went through beforehand. Thank you for writing this book. It's beautiful.

  • i saw this, and decided that i should lick my books signiture, i've decide to not do that anymore, my tounge feels weird

  • you are actually so amazing. :)

loved The Fault in Our Stars. i am SO SO glad i opted to not read it in public, though, otherwise i would've definitely been the crazy girl you see laughing and crying to herself hysterically on the subway.

  • Holy crap, I've watched your videos for a while and had NO IDEA that you were John Green! o.O

  • I worked in a book store the day this book came out and I got myself the first signed copy<3 love love love.

  • I finished the book in a couple of hours. I'm experiencing a 'hangover' so as to speak. It is making me contemplate the universe, my own existence, the worth of the human race and so many other things. I've gone into over thinking-overdrive. But one thing for sure - I cried so very much. It's amazing to get into your mind and I've never read anything like this before. Going to get more of your books. AMAZING job, I felt ALL OF THE THINGS for sure.

  • I read it and it's really good! good job on a fantastic book!!!!!!!!! :D

  • My pre-order still hasn't come buuut it gets more exciting everyday its not here because that means it's all the more likely it will be here soon! :D

  • A tomato sandwitch is ate in the fault in our stars, there for fruit is tackled in said book.

  • remember that time when john was being a tease about the title.

  • What is the point of being alive if you don't at least try to do something remarkable? John and hank, you have created something remarkable. (Nerdfighteria and all of its components/counterparts/whathaveyou.)

  • I love the Fault In Our Stars!!! First book I've read this year =)

  • The best novel I've read in a very long time. You're one awesome writer.

  • I read the book in 2 days. It both uplifted me and destroyed a part of my very soul. I indeed felt ALL OF THE THINGS.

  • For the last 60 page... i cried, and i could not stop crying. I have read A LOT of books over the years and this is the only one, ever, to make me cry.

This book makes me want to write more and get better. Thank you for such a great book. Thank you.

oh god, I am going to tear up again from remembering the book. *sniff*

  • This book is absolutely beautiful

  • I was going to buy all of your books on my kindle. This weekend I found out that my sister owned two of them already. We stopped at Borders and I bought An Abundance of Katherines and my sister bought The Fault In Our Stars.

  • As a teenage cancer survivor, it definitely made me feel ALL OF THE THINGS!!! It is one of those few books that I know I will simply HAVE to carry around with me my entire life. TFIOS will have a valued place on my bookshelf, always.

  • "I will see you in a minute when I go over to your room." :D

  • John, "All of the things" is going to become a thing before "french the lama"

  • @LaedusMcGonagall put it on a t-shirt

  • @LaedusMcGonagall ALL THE THINGS is already a thing, John Green didn't come up with it.Hyperbole and a half did.

  • @Hartwearspants Yeah, but John is making it more of a thing

  • @LaedusMcGonagall all of the things is.. already a thing.

  • Finally read it...SO AMAZING. I felt all of the things, it got awkward on public transportation.

  • FYI. There was fruit ...orange juice = made from oranges and a tomato.. technically a fruit.

  • I finished TFioS on January the fifteenth at 1:29 AM. I loaned the book to my cousin who was having difficulty comprehending it, but I informed her that your note says not to comprehend but to experience. She is rereading it now! We were talking about it this evening and we both realized we were talking about Hazel et al. as if they were real people!

  • hahahaha you are amazing <3

  • I'm fine thanks for asking :)

  • I just finished reading the book and now i just want to read it all over again. It was such an amazing story that had me laughing and crying(alot) at the same time. Im gonna go read it again now :) Thanks for an amazing story that really opened my eyes

  • Youtube is playing an advertisement, I can't find it to turn it off and it is going over your video.

  • I just started reading paper towns today. The story is amazing, very compelling, and honestly, on a friday night I can't believe I'm reading LOL. But, thank you John. Great job. I'm getting TFIOS next!

  • Yes, I do like that tie. Great choice.

  • Comment removed

  • I finished that book 6 hours after I got it. :D

  • @OhWaitItZMalloryy SAME :D

  • I JUST finished the book, like 5 minutes ago. The ending threw me off, but it was amazing I kept laughing, it was fantastic.

  • I love these guys, but honestly, they make me feel dumb and unsuccessful.

  • Is it just fantasy?

  • I'd like you for helping me adress my grandmas approaching death.

  • First thought LOUD!

  • I missed this video somehow! O_O

  • you made me cry in public for the last half of this book. BEST BOOK EVER.

  • OMG PEANUT BUTTER CRACKER FACE

I spit my water onto my laptop

  • Okay, so I got the book the day after it came out. It was supposed to be signed, but wasn't, so I messaged the email we were told to...But I haven't heard back or anything. Is something supposed to happen when I email, or is it just for keeping tabs on how many mistakes there were?

  • @TheFreedomofFlight : Have you heard back from anyone yet? I'm just about to send in my email and I'd love to know how this system is working out for everyone. P:

  • Just finished the book. Definitely laughed, definitely cried

  • I was at the store today and wasn't expecting to find a signed copy but then I found one and freaked out, I was so happy! In mine the sharpie smudged a bit and it has a note saying "Sorry!" underneath it. XD I find that awesome.

  • I don´t like the tie

  • halfway through reading it, it's okay...

  • I bought 2 copies of TFIOS. A regular copy and a hanklerfish copy

  • The Fault in Our Stars is the best book I ever read! I love it sooo much! I cried and I laughed!

  • Sorry, I'm a new Nerd Fighter, and I have read the book but... Who's Ester?

  • @KaayG

She was a nerdfighter. She started "Effyeahnerdfighters". Annnnd, she passed away a while ago from cancer. There's a charity involved called This star won't go out that financially assists families living with a child with cancer, if you're interested.

  • im sorry im doin hw while watching this and im too lazy to press the replay button so what is the book about

  • the story of how I got to read TFIOS... my teacher does these book talks and then he lets us check them out fro him if we think they sound interesting and the first one to raise their hand gets to read it

Mr. Skinner: Okay so I got this book called the fault-

My hand shoots up and I do a freaky fan girl giggle

Me: sorry i just REALLY want to read that book!

    Mr. Skinner: O-okay...

and he had a signed copy. not fair. but then i got to read it!

  • today I found your book in my teachers classroom and I beg her to let me to read it

  • I'm a 14 year old boy who read this book in 2 1/2 days. I'm such a nerd. I hope I turn out like Hank and John.

  • You are so amazing! :D

  • When I first received TFiOS I was like "OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD!!" Then I found out I not only had a signed copy, but I also had a Hanklerfish! Then I was like "O.O …. x.x" And despite being in the exact middle of revision for my exams, I had to read it right then and there. So I ended up finishing the book in less than a day AND even lacking the revision that I needed for my exam I still passed with an 87% which just made it all the better. Thank you John Green, Thank you.

  • If I were those people, I wouldn't have gone away. I would have screamed.

  • The book was amazing... I read it in 3 days at most (it probably would've been a couple of hours if I had time). It was heartbreaking (I cried for about an hour) and easily one of my favorite books! Thanks for writing this awesomely awesome book! :)

  • I honestly did feel ALL THE THINGS while reading TFIOS

  • Go nerdfighters!

  • YOU JUST REFERENCED HYPERBOLE AND A HALF. I LOVE YOU MORE.

  • MY MUM JUST BECAME A NERDFIGHTER!

  • @miss0emzi I THINK MY MUM IS ON THE WAY TO BECOMING ONE!!

  • V for Vendetta was originally created by a Comic Book Artist who is an Anarchist.... So yeah...

  • hi nerdfighters! I would love if you could check out my channel! I vlog about my thoughts and do makeup tutorials and cooking videos (coming soon, hopefully) DFTBA!

  • That book... Oh my lord... I read it in less than 3 hours. OH CRAP, it was so good.

  • THIS BOOK IS SOOOO SAD! I bawled, and bawled, and BAWLLLED!!!!!

  • I.LOVE.YOUR.BOOK.

  • i felt like your other books were more educational. like you used a bunch of quotes and kept relating events back to them (i.e great perhaps, labyrinth... things like that) and they were amazing! and the fault in our stars was just an awesome story ! :)

  • SORRY FOR THE LONGNESS I WAS JUST TOTALLY EXTATIC!!!!

  • AND WHEN NO ONE WAS LOOKING I KISSED IT AND THEN I FLIPPED OUT... but then i got distracted because i saw nyan cat on the wall XD

  • so, in german class, i looked down at the rack of my friends desk and I SAW THE FAULT IN OUR STARS!! she wasn't there, but every ime the door creakd i looked to see if it was her and when she came in i was all ABBY!!!CAN I SEE THE JOHN GREEN BOOK REAL QUICK!!?? and she was all 'okay' so i started flipping out and i picked it up and i saw the sticker that said 'SIGNED COPY' AND SHIT HIT THE FAN RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS! EVERY ONE WAS STARING AT ME AND STUFF AND I OPENED THE BOOK AND WHEN NO

  • Hello sir. :-) I read this being hardly a nerdfighter, but I've watched a few videos. I think the book was lovely--It's one of those books that I finished about a week ago, but I cannot let go. I feel like I'm not done with it yet, because it's such a fantastic story and I really felt close to the characters. It was beautiful, Mr. Green, thank you for writing it.

  • I'm halfway through the book. It's really something grand. I haven't read many books in the last 10 years, so this one is really getting me back into the groove of reading regularly. I love that. I feel like reading this is giving me a guest pass into the club of Nerdfighteria. And since I've had to take the bus a lot recently, it also reduced my bus creep factor by 99.

  • I keep opening up my TFIOS hoping that I somehow missed the page with the signature but each time it looks back at me defiantly blank.

I emailed sparksflyup John but I haven't heard anything from them. Do you have any more info about it yet?

  • Wait...what is so wrong with Mark Twain's "Joan of Arc"?

  • @InfinateBox Thanks! Do you know how much it costs?

    -3

  • I found it to be an incredible display of newfound kindness when my brother came home from college to present me with a signed copy of the faults in our stars. I see now, however, it was really a trick to make me feel ALL OF THE THINGS! I have never before cried whilst reading any book, even when Dobby died.

  • @alequezrose

You heartless monster O_O I prescribe you another chapter of Faults in our Stars - STAT!!!!!!!!!

  • Can you get the book in British bookstores? e.g. Waterstones and WHSmiths?

I really want to get it!

  • @elfarmyismyname I went out looking yesterday. Smiths didn't seem to have any, but both the Waterstone's I went in had a few copies each.

  • I'm so glad that you exist.

  • All I can say is thank you, John.

  • I'm siriusly bummed right now because my mum was gunna go and buy 'the fault in our stars' for me tomorrow but then, for the the first time in 2 years, it decided to snow >_< really heavy.

So I cracked and bought the audiobook on itunes. I plan on listening to it whilst i scream, angrily, at the snow falling past my window tonight.

Siriusly, the ONE time it decides to snow, it's the day before I go to get your book.

  • Last night I bought The Fault In Our Stars and so far I'm loving it. I really enjoy the opportunity to laugh out loud in public while staring at a book, because it's both liberating and immediately explainable. And great advertising, given the nice big cover that people can see. Even if they just see the colors, it's enough for when they find the book in the stores. My copy came from Shoppers Drug Mart. That's saying something, because they have a tiny selection of books. Yay popularity!

  • I remember a time (2009) when you somewhat flagrantly lied that your books very very similar to Harry Potter, with titles such as Parchment Towns, Looking for Dumber

  • Dear John Green,

You are fabulously wonderful in your achinging beautiful construction of stories and well done on making me feel ALL OF THE THINGS!

But did you really have to make me cry as much as you did. I mean, I was bed-bound for a day or two. It got pretty intense

    Best wishes

    Georgia

  • @77789Guy I love this video

  • @SuperFly5352 I know

  • I literally just finished the book less than ten minutes ago.

It made me feel ALL of the feelings. (Insert X all the Y meme here)

  • so funny

  • woah, viewer 200,200 - awesome!

  • @BooMonsterOfficial Viewer #200,201

  • l HOPE that I'll like it? Oh John.... This definitely made me feel ALL the feelings. Several times. I wish I could go on and give you praise, but I only read it yesterday (exams require full concentration), and if I remember too much, I'm going to start crying again. I'm amazed that someone who does peanut butter face could be so awesome, and awesome in the way that inspires pure awe. You, your characters, Nerdfighteria, and the authors you reference give me hope for humanity.

  • Hey! I just subscribed, I bought a copy of your signed book in the corner of Kroger for my friend and she really liked it! Then I googled your name and remembered your vlog about The Catcher in the Rye (my favorite book) I watched a while back and instantly subscribed. I'm going to read all of your books if I find them again :)

  • Amazing book. I wasn't expecting this book to become one of my instant favs. You did a fantastic job and led me on an emotional roller coaster

  • My copy FINALLY got here (damn Amazon) and guess what...it ISNT the first copy and is NOT signed. I AM DISAPPOINT IN YOU AMAZON!! I ordered it on January 15th...it is now February 2nd... I hate you Amazon...a lot......*angryface*...,.

  • Your book was amazing, i loved it so much! :)

  • Come to the Midwest, DAMN IT!

  • Orange juice and tomatoes

  • I know I'm a bit late, but I got my copy today signed (even though it wasn't even a pre-order). I'm so glad they ship your book all the way to Finland :)

  • love TFiOS so much reading it the second time already! I have an unhealthy emotional attachment to this book and am quoting it every day: "I'm a grenade and some day I'm going to blow up and I'd like to minimize the casualties. " DFTBA.

  • @vlogbrothers I received my signed copy of TFiOS today and didn't realise how excited I was about receiving until I actually got to open it and take in that new book smell and immediately begin reading. Thank you John Green!

  • Augustus Waters is one of my all time favorite characters...and I've read Pride and Prejudice about 9 times.

  • like he's up there with Mr. Darcy. Who i love.

  • yay 9gaggers!

  • Comment removed

  • @vlogbrothers are either of you bronies??????? if so who is best pony?

  • 2:57 What is this word and how do you spell it? I tried the cc but we all know those are absolutely ridiculous.

    Help me Nerdfighters!

  • @vlogbrothers my brother did not get a autograph in his book

  • You did mention tomatoes, which are technically a fruit ;)

Also it was so amazing, I cried, giggled, smiled and felt so much for the book

  • i cried

  • the fault in our stars is my favourite john green novel. the characters did not seem like characters but like people. never once in the book did it seem that john green was telling me what to think or summing up his entire book in a last chapter in the form of a soliloquy like i feel he has done for me in his previous books. tfios, for me, seems to be the book that has marked john green to be a great, not just good, writer. i can't wait for his next book.

  • :') it was a beautiful book.

    thanks john

  • I got my signed copy of this book....a month ago....I still have not read it for fear of ruining it....xD I need another copy!

  • @MePotatoe92 I totally washed my hands/read it like I had stolen it and was going to put it back on the shelf after I finished it. No cracked spine, no soiled pages. I also used a bookmark for the first time in a very very long time.

  • One day will you assign one of your own books as reading homework to Nerdfighter Academy and have videos where you essentially do a literary analysis on them?

  • OMG THE VAN!

  • Do the people in the airport think you're crazy, or are they just used to some guy walking around with a video camera either answering questions or talking to no one?

  • Comment removed

  • Your head is extremely peanut shaped...

  • The last couple paragraphs of chapter 22, with Hazel in the bathroom grieving over Augustus and her dad comes in, kneels in front of her and holds her.... I can't explain to you how deeply that moment hit me. Just typing it out makes me cry more.

  • @AngelBear1386 No spoilers!

  • "...Do you like this tie?" Yes, John, I like that tie. :)

  • Actually the book does mention tomatoes in some detail, and tomatoes are technically fruit. So you did tackle fruit! This book addresses ALL OF THE THINGS!!!

  • Nothing I can say other than that I loved this book.

  • Best line.......an unladen swallow. YAY! For the Monty Python references. Yes, I already admit to being a nerd, being a nerdfighter it's kinda in the job descrition and the job title, to be fair.

  • Just a quick note on the book and I promised not to spoiler it.

It made me feel ALL OF THE THINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for making me cry. Only the best and most memorable books I read are the ones that make me cry. It's almost as if I'm there and becomes a part of my life, for a few days at least. Also An Imperial Affliction? erm where can I get my copy?

  • @vlogbrothers John, I was walking through my local Walmart (in Claremont, NH) and saw three copies of The Fault in Our Stars. All signed, none the less!!! Needless to say I bought one, however I laughed at how all your signatures looked different, besides the green sharpee. Can't wait to start reading. DFTBA,Bs!

  • Mr. John Green, I have a request. For your next book, why don't you write An Imperial Affliction. Of course you won't be any Peter Van Houten, but I'm sure that's a good thing. But! But, you will write what happens to Ann's mom and about the Dutch Tulip Man and whatnot. Please consider this!

    Yours truly,

    A Nerdfighter.

  • @ZramTV I think that is fantastic...

  • Love the book, but what does DFTBA mean?
