  • ino richard armitage is like 40 and mr darcy is ment to be 28

but god hed make a good one!

  • @TheDiariesOfVampires Actually Mr Darcy (Matthew Macfadyen) have 37 years old and, yes, Richard have 40, but bought are marvellus and the most beautiful men that I ever seen in England

  • @monirasmus901008 yeahh inoo and colin firth was in his 30's but in the book mr darcys ment to be like 28 or something... but he would make a great one!

  • "I DON'T WANT TO POSSES YOU, I WISH TO MARRY YOU BECAUSE I LOVE YOU!" </3

  • That's it. I'm packing my bags and movin' to England!

  • @vla8806 unfortunately you will not find a Mr Thornton in England, not like John Thornton anyway :'( these types of guys are extinct here also lol

  • Also just finished watching this on netflix and really enjoyed it. I haven't watched a movie/series that I have enjoyed this much in years. Armitage is an amazing, amazing actor....He should be forever proud of this role.

  • Did anyone else find themselves yelling "I'LL MARRY YOU, I'LL HAVE YOU!!!" during this scene...my goodness...if a man this fine looked at me like that and wanted to marry me, status what? what?

I was so upset at Margaret after this scene too, she shut him DOWN. I don't blame her for feeling guilty about it nonstop after it happened.

  • @stop08it OMG I KNOW!!! how can she reject THAT!

  • OMG!!!!! Richard Armitage makes me want to live in a Romance novel. I will marry you !!!!!!!!!

  • We got to reject them at least once :)

  • Nation click to this site!

    KHOHALY.NET

  • dis man is so dam hottttttt. wow! he is talented, well spoken an jus fine! lord he takes my breath away! mattew macfadylen an richard armitage is very very sexy!

  • It blinking breaks my heart every time I watch this scene...

  • Hmm. I love this scene...

but if he hadn't of argued with her at the beginning... he would probs have had more of a chance...

  • WHY ??!! Who'd refuse him !!!

  • why, oh why didn't they use the proposal scene from the book? why was the ending in the film so distorted, too? richard armitage is a brillant actor, though, and damn hot! that sort of makes up for it... but still... he would have been even better in the original scenes.

  • @MsLonelydrifter It seems to me that we are faced with the usual problem: the whole scene would be impossible to adapt to a film version due to the "richness" of the text, but if they included only the dialogue bit without the rest, it would not be a very good scene, would it? There is one bit, however, which they certainly managed to capture perfectly:

"'Oh Miss Hale!' - continued he, lowering his voice to such a tender intensity of passion that she shivered and trembled before him" ...awwww!

  • @MsLonelydrifter How is the proposal different from the book? (I haven't read it yet) O_O

  • she didn't say "i never will"

  • iwluhgwifhblliaf i watch this too often

  • @ToniAqua so do I! Does anyone know of a cure for this RA addiction??

  • "I do understand. I understand you completely!"

  • OMG HIS VOICE!!!!Take off my clothes now......

  • @italoluder that's right: both the voice AND the looks...strange to imagine there is a woman in this world who could say no to that.......

  • Tell me, please, what film is it, I can't find it in Wikipedia

  • @baobapsful its called north and south. you can order it at amazon. a bbc production

  • *sigh...* and butterflies :)

  • I watched North & South on Netflix for the first time this week and I kept yelling JUST SAY YES!!! Aww..."I spoke to you about my feelings because I love you; I had no thought for your reputation!...I wanted to say I'll marry you! Poor Thornton. LOVE THIS MOVIE...I've got to read the book now.

  • @Epitch24 Both the book and adaption are awesome, the small differences dont matter, at least not in my opinion anyway <3

  • omg i love this scene ... he is amazing what the matter with her , with only ear speak i will say yes to the proposal ...

  • Che uomo e che voce!

  • God ... why can't men talk like that and also be like that .

  • @MissLoveSoup I know right! It would be so romantic!

  • @MatrixxWoman We can dream ....x

  • Margaret is such a bitch to him throughout the majority of the movie!!!! She thinks WAY too highly of herself!!!!

  • BECOME A FAN OF THIS MOVIE ON FACEBOOK - '' north and south movie series''

  • hahaha he sucks at proposing...

  • Ah....love.

  • "Please don't go any further."

    "Excuse me?"

Haha the way he says that makes me laugh.

  • Oh Margaret, Margaret . . . how could you? She completely breaks the guy's heart into tiny little bits and gives it back to him!! That would definitely not be something I would do, not to Richard Armitage!!

Also I love the music that starts when he leaves at the end. This is the best movie ever!!!

  • Mr. Thornton is giving Mr. Darcy a run for his money :)))

  • @atbnorge I know right didn't think that was possible. When my mom and I first saw this we were like, "Pride and Prejudice!" Then at the end we were like "WOW!! Thornton is AMAZING!!!" =)

  • damn hes so hot!!!

  • so awesome! amazing acting! there is such feeling. I love it!

  • FANTASTIC! the way they both try to convey what they mean so honestly but fall into misunderstanding so easily.. it's really amazing to watch the looks on their faces as they say these failed words!

  • "I would have done the same for any man there"

    "any man?"

    Bahaha! He's like what???

  • *sniff* ugh, the emotion in this scene!! His raw passion!! It gets me every time! Such an amazing actor... Can't wait to see him in the hobbit! Just wish he wasn't going to be 4 ft tall... He'll still be gorgeous.

  • "I don't want to possess you, I wish to marry you because I Love you!!!" The emotion he puts into that is amazing - it is my favorite line of the movie!"

My favourite line as well. He is amazing!

  • @brender1976 lol no. but keep answering. :)

  • @brender1976 You left a bunch of overly passionate comments commenting on the video before I came along. You've clearly never seen the show so idk why you bothered. I'm...aware that it's not real, thanks. And you're also answering all the comments I make to you... Whatever. You're just kind of dumb, aren't you?

  • @brender1976 In OTHER countries, and it is no longer anywhere near as common as it used to be. I never refuted the fact that there are places where women are still considered property, but for the most part marriage is a CHOICE. Especially in the western world, which is exactly where this show takes place. Look, this is not the forum for you to express your negative beliefs on marriage, the video was uploaded for fans of the show -- and FYI she ends up with him anyway. She CHOOSES to marry him.

  • @brender1976 My writing reflected the opposite? By saying that marriage does not equal possession? In most places, it doesn't. People choose to get married and people can just as easily choose to get divorced. I don't lack self-esteem, sweetheart. If you say that I "apparently haven't heard about married women in the middle east" then that IS talking down to me, which I don't appreciate and you sure as hell wouldn't appreciate either if it had been the other way around.

  • @brender1976 Also, thank you for pretty much talking down to me in your comment. I am not ignorant of how women are treated in other countries or in the western world. Do not speak to me as if I am.

  • @brender1976 Yes, but obviously this does not take place in the middle east. Thornton's character was genuinely in love with Margaret, and he had no intention of making her his 'possession.' He wanted to be with her, plain & simple. North & South does not take place in the middle east, and Thornton was more than well aware of the fact that Margaret did not have to marry him to carry on living a decent life.

  • @brender1976 no, they're not. marriage does not make someone a possession.

  • "excuse me" hahaha

  • You see, here's the problem...no woman in her right mind would refuse RA unless she were blind.

  • I still do NOT understand why she refused him! How could you refuse such a man?!?

If I were her, I would have been blown away with happiness by his love and emotions!!

  • it upsets me so much how she treats him in this scene!!

  • OMGoodness. love that scene. Intense!!! i would've refuse his proposal too except I would be less harsh. hahaha!!! :)

  • Possibly one of the harshest refusals to a proposal on film. Ouch.

  • I see it over and over and over again... and every single time is just like the first time. I just love this story. Amazing actors, every single one of them. Is simply pure pleasure to see it. Richard Armitage is a excellent actor. He deserves to do more good pictures, we def. deserve to see him more often.

  • OMG! I always cry when i see this scene. Richard Armitage played so perfectly! Thanks God for this talented man:)

  • This was painful I wanted her to just tell him I love you instead of breaking his heart, he was so honest. I like this better than the ending this should have been the ending. Anyone know how to fix the hair in the style she is wearing in the movie? Can not find one video with tips one styles like this

  • The music at the end is the icing on the cake....I get so emotional sometimes!

  • Having watched many period dramas over the years...this is still been one of my top 3. After my exams, I'm going to treat myself to a N&S marathon - turn my phone off, get my duvet, make a pot of tea and then dive into this bliss. Then I'm going to start on my Robin Hood box set....can't wait!!!!

  • "I don't want to possess you I wish to marry you because I love you!"

Whoa. Somebody's heart just broke! Rewind.

  • Still like Pride & Prejudice better. You can't beat Jane Austen!

  • Who could ever reject such beauty! He's pretty perfect. Voice, face...need I say anymore?

  • BG15411: I'm in exactly the same situation...

  • @curious09jane Jane Eyre. Then she runs away...

  • Thank God for England and RA! Enough said.

  • i get where she's coming from...but ouch, she's harsh.

  • Thornton : Best romantic character ever. And Richard Armitage is one of the best actors of his generation. What a man.

  • i don;t understand why there is no movie version

  • I love that one loose hair that sticks out above his left eye. It makes him so sexy.

  • how on earth could any woman refuse a man like him?!?!

I just want to jump into the screen and kiss him!!! *sigh*

  • @golachica1311

    Could't agree more!!!

  • @golachica1311Could't agree more!!!

  • Thorin

  • If a man every talked to me that way (looking that sexy while doing so) I would be putty in his hands!

  • "Are you saying that I'm unreasonable?" archdjfghb the way he says that is so darn sexy !!

  • her refuse make him think of her and love her more and more....

if she accept his propsal.. he would really treat her like somthing in his possession

  • she really annoys me in this scene - hes amazing

  • his voice is like chocolate...

  • @jadeyes914 pahahahhahhahaha!!!

  • Uptodate, the british has excellent male actors with their tall, dark, penetrating eyes and deep resonant voices. They are the fabolous Richard Armitage and Matthew Macfadyen. Enjoyed both Pride n Prejudice n North n South. Looking forward to their other projects. Cant wait to watch RA's Stike Back n Matt's The 3 Muskeeteers. Love both of them

  • what does she mean with "in that way" and what's not gentlemanlike in his manner of speaking?! she's just really acting weird in this scene, her words don't make any sence,or am i stupid????:)

  • Margaret, you're an idiot...

  • I would gladly be just one of his possessions...

    Any time, Johnny.

    (wink wink, blush)

  • "Excuse me" (l.o.l.) He never saw that one coming.

  • They appear to have completely different viewpoints.

  • "I understand you completely." *leaves room*

    OUCH!

  • Brilliant!!!

  • Absolutely perfect. Naprosto úžasné.

  • Devastating! Love it!

  • Comment removed

  • "You shouldn't, because I do not like you and never have!" OUCH! That was harsh. I honestly don't know how anyone could reject that gorgeous, gorgeous face - not to mention his swoon-worthy voice. Ah...I love this scene.

  • A proposal? Then he should have not entertained the topic that she loosely rejected him for. "Pride and Prejudice with a twist!

  • It's painful to watch.

  • Really heart wrenching powerful drama here. Different classes and she is not receiving his affections, from a social chip on her shoulder, as well as his jealous Mother.. Beautifully spoken and an absolute waterfall of expression.

  • its the song that makes this scene so powerful

  • I don't want to possess you.. you sure about that? lol

  • I so don't understand Margaret. She's a perfect example of a girl not in touch with her own feelings. But I do love this movie! And the ending is PERFECT!!!!!

  • this broke my heart

  • OMG MR Thornton I will marry u Richard i love u

  • Comment removed

  • "I don't want to possess you, I wish to marry you because I Love you!!!" The emotion he puts into that is amazing - it is my favorite line of the movie!

  • @missvirginiageorgia It's my favorite line too! What a good man he really is to declare that with such truth.

  • holy crap. i've never seen this movie, or even hear of it till now, and....wow! just like pride and prejudice. haha. but...wow. i've only seen about 4 min of this movie and i'm already in love with this man! haha ;)

  • @blkRNcld101 hehe richard armitage is hot hot hot.;) so didja get to watch this? It's brilliant, but far darker than Pride and Prejudice.=D

  • @luna4ever36 no, i haven't had to opportunity to see it yet :(. I am dying to watch it though! unless it has a sad ending...then i don't think i can watch it....

  • @blkRNcld101 really? its all here on Youtube! Some awesome person has uploaded all the vids, I wouldn't be able to watch it anywhere either, if not. And nooo, definitely no sad ending.=D

  • @luna4ever36 well then I will have to find a time where I can watch it :) thanks:)

  • @blkRNcld101 Mr. Thornton's got that something! ;) it's strange, I'm getting married in a few weeks but I can't get over him ;)

  • @BG15411 I've been married for two years now and i'm still not over him...or RA in this role. *sigh*

  • I totally agree with manicoco18 & achuontube!!!!

    I LOVE JOHN THORNTON!!!!!!!

  • no seriously, could he have a sexier voice?

  • THORNTON!! THORNTON!!!

  • im in love with mr thorten

  • ooooohhhhhh i would swallow this man IIIIII LLLLOOOOOVVVVEEEEEE HHHIIIIIMMMM i mean really its not joke:)))))))))))))))

  • what an epic tale, to be able to portray such emotion and feeling, these actors are surpurb in these roles i felt every hope , dispear and dissappoint along with them both :)

  • Richard is such an amazing actor.

  • I don't want to possess you, I wish to marry you because I love you!

    Love Him!

  • 2.25 is the best line !!!!!!

  • yes, yes, yes, I want to marry you!!! mhm, he doesn't hear me^^.

    Margaret is so stupid -.-

  • @natoll2000 Ah, my friend, you and I are of the same mind!

    ...I love him...

  • he's hugh jackman. on british steroids.

  • @achuonutube EXACTLY!!!!

  • @achuonutube u r so right, god they sound similar...both of them happen to be very sexy as well

  • I would have to agree with on this statement...

  • @achuonutube I can definately see the resemblence but unlike Hugh Jackman, Richard looks broody all the time, Hugh seems a bit goofy to me when he's not Wolverine.

  • @achuonutube OMG I have always said this to my Mum and she's always like, "ololol i dun c it derp".

  • I remember I found the this movie on a shelf in the house and I thought "Hey some movie I can watch just to kill some time" and I read the back of it and thought "this isn't going to be that good of a movie is it?" I watched the 1st episode I WAS HOOKED! I watched all the episode in one day and My mom came home from work was was shocked I was watching it. xD good times

  • That is so painful to watch! When I watched it with my husband, he was literally wincing. She totally puts the poor guy through the ringer, and I don't think she has any idea how hurtful she's being.

  • I can never watch this stupid scene. I feel too horrible for him and somehow find myself watching the end instead.

  • Richard Armitage is just superb here .... so intense and passionate. Wow. Just wow. *faints*

  • I would of said yes........the first time!

  • corrrr.......... i would. :P

  • Oh my , this scene. It popped up on a list of suggestions when I was watching Sense and Sensbility 2008 some time ago. I watched it out of context from the rest of the movie and my heart still broke for John Thornton. Well done.

  • reading the book just makes this scene that much better, because you know exactly what Mr. Thorton's feeling. he loves her so much and is so crushed when she rejects him that he almost cries.

'I don't want to possess you, I want to marry you because I love you!" *dies*

  • AAAAHHH!!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU WOMAN?!?!?!?! You have the most handsome man in the world at your feet and you REJECT him!?!?! Oh man he is so fine! I would love to meet him.

  • I have watched this so many times. I have read the original novel...and still I can not figure out why his telling her his feelings was "not the way of a gentleman." Why was she so insulted? It is really not explained in the book. I wish someone like him would "insult" me.

  • @capalmore I believe she felt insulted because she understood people were attributing her actions to love, (she! and for a man like him! shameless advertised too!) and thinking of them as already romantically involved... In her mind, she didn't need him to start thinking in the same possessive and insulting way by proposing to her at the worst of times.

Guess that's why in the book she's also very shocked when he states that he'll always love her and there's nothing she can do about it, Lol

  • @capalmore And I guess Margaret is also very innocent and ashamed of such things, she would never proclaim/ confess her love even in risk of losing it... Even in the book, she never admits her love, even to herself, does she? Geez, while reading how I wished she would go already to Milton and explain Frederick was her brother ! Why being that miserable while secretly praying someone else would explain it to him? >__< You're the man, Mr Thornton !

  • @capalmore I think I read somewhere that she's insulted because she believes his offer is motivated by duty, not love. It could also be that in the Victorian era it wasn't proper to speak of ones feelings so directly. When Henry proposed, he spoke indirectly and asked if she "might like to take that walk to the church with" him. (Paraphrased, I don't have the book in front of me.) Her mother was shocked by Thornton's past also. It may simply be that it wasn't proper to speak and act so directly.

  • @capalmore TOOOOO true. Jeeze, he has the nicest voice I've ever heard...and he's gorgeous..and dark, and tormented, and manly and ugh...someone find me a man like this to "insult" me.

  • he's hot =)

  • *Sighs* Oh, Richard Armitage. He's so gorgeous. And that voice! *Double sigh*

  • Comment removed

  • i saw the whole show yesterday and totally fell in love with it... just awesome. how come richard armitage isn't in more productions?? he's way more hotter than colin firth or any of the other british actors

  • WTH!? Why's this guy get rejected by every girl he falls in love with? First Marian and now this. I never see him without a broken heart.

  • @Janiqua lol. Brooding looks good on Mr. Armitage. Thats why all his characters get their hearts broken.

  • Great scene. Great soundtrack too! Always on my ipod.

  • @denstertube mine too ;) northbound train is such a great song...

  • @a20i Cool. I love 'I have seen Hell' and 'She'll take you from me'

Cannot believe the soundtrack was never released. took me ages to find it.

  • I love the way he says "any man?". like he's thinking "yeah, uh huh, you know you love me. MHM." lol

But seriously, she was right in what she did! Maybe it was a little harsh, but he should've seen it coming. There are two very different people... i mean, right before he PROPOSES, he was arguing with her! They misunderstand each other two much for them to be together and I'm glad she said no. Its brought them closer!

  • @EriksShatteredMirror

So its like a game of emotions, string him along that bit further and annoy him with comments that "she would do the same for any man", but hey typical the man keeps coming back for more. Poor sap.

  • I'm a sucker for deep sexy voices and his just blows me away! Add to the fact that he's tall, dark and handsome - I'm a goner!!!!! He told her he loved her about 2 or 3 times and she never once acknowledged it! Stupid, stupid girl!! He would have had me the minute he laid eyes on me!

  • No, you don't understand!! You don't understand at all! She's just in denial!

I was literally yelling this at the screen.. GAH!

  • I don't want to possess you? Feel free to, Mr. Thornton!

  • the Thorton's voice !!! OMG, so deeply and sensual

  • Oh god! I love this.. it's very similar to Pride and Prejudice.. but not! It's soooo amazing and interesting.. He is wonderful and how could she say those things??

  • Ahhhh!! I don't know how she refused him and said all those nasty things!!! I'd have been the one declaring my love!!

  • ....many thanks @skanami2010 for sharing this vid with me : ))

.......unfortunately this Series is not in Austria :((

  • "One moment we talk the color of fruit, the next of love...how does that happen?"

    -Gah he is heartwrenching!!!

  • I love the music from this movie! One of the finest sound tracks ever!!!
