Yes, she does speak Russian well. Not perfectly, not without an accent, but she does very well. And Russian IS a hard language.

Her Russian is lovely and her accent is very sweet. The boy is melting listening to her.
-She says that she is a bit afraid but glad that she is given the opportunity...(competition?...recording is not clear).
-Here Russian is not very good yet.
-She is glad to skate for Russia, because skating is very popular and of high quality there. The feeling is very different from what she had before.

I thought that this was such an odd pairing at first, but hearing her speak fluent Russian is amazing. It really is a statement about the state of Russian pairs skating if they are Russia's top pair (no offense to her.) Another commentator said that she must give up her Japanese citizenship in order to skate for Russia (and she doesn't want to.) I wouldn't want to either. I'd think it would be more beneficial for him to become a Japanese citizen. Who knows.

Whoa, this is amazing! It sounds like she's been studying Russion for years and years and years--although, if you think about it, she was living in Japan, and then in the U.S. until a couple of years ago...
