Capitalism and free market economy has FAILED the planet since "Reaganomics" took over in the early 80s. The total liberalization and deregulation of the financial and banking industries has left the soft underbelly of society (the middle class-us) utterly exposed to the capricious and avaricious whims of corporatism and the rule of the capital. Something seems to be changing with all those protesters on Wall St., but I fear that an economic collapse could happen, unless we all become more fair

In the UK, we've been discussing how American views of class have been bastardised so that what we'd call the "working class" is now the "middle class", and the "unemployed" are now the "working class", where as we'd consider the middle classes to be small businesses owners etc.

The whole social stratification systems that exists in our society, has in fact been altered in the past 20-30 years by the fact that immigrants tend to work the more unfavorable jobs (for less) , while the working class of the 1960-1970s has been upgraded to a more "white-collar" status. That is the case for most American cities, where a diverse economy exists, but places like Detroit, or Flynt, Michigan
