I was also disappointed to find that Phil Collins' song was disabled from this clip. I followed your suggestion frog43, as this has to be one of my favorite videos WITH the song!!
i must agree, for some reason the video just does not make it without the tune...however ,just open another tab, find the phil collins tune, minimize that window with the tune going,go back to the video and enjoy...love that long legged landseer...i think my guy (luke the newf) has a crush on her...hope this helps
I actually bought the Phil Colins song "Find a Way to My Heart" after hearing it on this video. Now YouTube's new program kicks them off. Ironic; i wonder if they realize they make more money letting the songs go.
I have watched this video over and over...haven't looked in a while and I find out tonight that we can't hear he video anymore......what an ass! that Phil Collins! Give me a break. That just makes the video. Damned bald-headed ass! He has gotten too big for his nickers!
Man`s best friend~ then they go and chuck him out of a chopper, brrrrh!
Can`t help thinking the dogs could do with an inflatable vest to stop them going under unless their fur is like Kapok? Wonderful, I wish I could fly helicopters- what a great way of saving lives and having a ball at the same time.
if your talking about the newfoundland dog then he really doesn't need a life vest they can handle pretty moderately sized swells but i guess just to be careful you could
Their fur is like that. We have two Newfoundlands and water is their life. It's just a natural thing so don't fret. They are just fine. They can't wait for the summer when we open the pool. Best breed in the world!
got a newfie a bit ago he's 14 weeks weighing 6 stone+ and hes the same height as our burnise mountain dog (bitch) his dad was 14 stone so im guessing he's gonna be a big lad. cant wait to take him to SAR classes

I think they def. have saving instincts. I wanted to test out my newf's water rescue abilities so I pretended like I was drowning. He shot into that water, came up to me, I grabbed onto him, and he pulled me to shore.
aww...this is incredible. I cannot wait to get our Newf out for water rescue training. I've never seen a dog love water so much (I used to be a lab owner) and our Newf will get in the tub and submerse himself in water - he LOVES baths! We never have to hold him down when we bathe him. He'll even sit next to the tub while someone is in the shower...he truly loves the water!
I suggest mr. wolverine that you find some smut blog on myspace and leave this site alone as we don't have time for your dumb comments. This post is about dogs not jackasses.
OK Big Man tell me you don't need to be rescued when a car is laying on top of you because your stupid ass rolled it. If youre such a BIG MAN I wold to see you bench press a car off the top of you. I don't which would be funnier: watching you try to do that or you yelling for help because you need to be rescued.....you are a moron!
Newfounlads are so fond of water that puppies jump into the toilet. No jokes about flushing please, Mewfs are gentle but quite good at fight when attacked..
Once I donated a pup to an institution, they also had ferocious german shphs. for guard.
One day the worst sheppherd unleashed and attacked the nice charachter, balanced Newf.... result: RIP... ¿the pacific Newf?... no,,, the "other".
I signed up just so I could post a comment for this video. We went camping when our newf was a 3 mth old puppy and of course had her in the water playing fetch. Our 8 yr old son would be swimming and she would swim back and forth in front of him until he grabbed her coat so she could pull him to shore. If you don't think that's instinct then you're a very ignorant person! These dogs were born to do water rescue just like our Saint insists on keeping us warm if we're outside in the snow.
We water train all summer long north of Los Angeles at Castaic Lake on Mondays & Thursdays from June-September. You all more than welcome to come, watch, train and see for yourself......
Ignorance is bliss? I guess you need to have a Newf to understand what they are capable of doing. They are water rescue dogs. hmmm. Since I have both a Newf that is Water Rescue Trained and a husband that is in swift water rescue with the Fire dept. I'd take the dog every time to save my life. I dare you to go to your local Newf watering hole and repeat your statements about their ability to rescue.
drewsadog: newfies do it by instinct.they are made for this.water rescue dogs are stronger, faster and better swimmers than human rescuers.they are more courageous and don't have second thoughts!they would literally die for a stranger.
SHUT UP drewsadog...Don't watch the video then if you can not understand what GREAT dogs Newfoundlands are!! The point is that they are amazing animals with the desire to save lives...comments like yours can be done without!!
I've looked at your video many times in the past year and it never ceases to give me chills and tears in my eyes as the Landseer Newfie's are the most beautiful dogs in the world. (I know since I have a one year old). You truly have two beautiful dogs and their rescue trainging is truly admirable. Thank for such sharing this experience with the world!
i 100% agree wit hyou. dogs are just so great and loyal we can learn so much from them and they can learn much from us. its a great thing to see human and animal working as a team. theres some things well never understand that a dog can. they love giving us loyalty.
I love newfoundland dogs! I have a question, only answer if you know this for sure. And also, to answer back to me on my equestion, I need you to message me not reply under this movie otherwise I can't read it. My question is, do they push the dogs off the helicopter or do the dogs have a choice? Thanks!
Newfs are fearless and tireless in the water. Human rescuers can do their thing while the dog keeps people alive. It's cheaper and safer to have a dog be a third rescuer, especially if you're short staffed as it is.
To clarify my previous post, I guess I could see using this as a way of deploying a canine team into an area that, for whatever reason, can't be reached any other way. But this seems akin to attempting to have dogs carry a litter of highly technical terrain. I.E. the wrong tool for the job.
I can't help but wonder, in terms of this sort of water rescue, what does the dog add to the equation? Obviously dogs are invaluable in SAR but I just don't see a point to using them for helicopter based water rescue. Can the dog secure someone to be hoisted or shorthauled out? Or free someone that is entangled in something? For this kind of mission a person can do everything the dog can, but better, in addition to loads of things the dog can't do.
I love this movie so much. They are absolutely beautiful. I have a newf, he is now a trainee to be a search and rescue dog in Okinawa Japan. I wish we would see such great water rescue dogs, just like this movie in Japan as well.
to save lifeshumans cant do some of the things dogs can like jump in to frezzing could water and saving a human life its very hard to train a dog to do that
Thrilling video! I wish we in the US trained our dogs for REAL water work the way you do in Europe. I have shared your video on my blog, NewfieFlix dot net, where I have many videos of Newfoundland dogs. I invite you to have a look, and add yourself to the world map at the very bottom of the page.
That looks like fun! Anyone who works with rescue dogs would know they live for this kind of work.
