About the only flaw in the editing of this movie was in this scene where Ellie flees to the other side of the Walls of Jericho. In the movie, she is shown starting to move just before the dropping of the pants, and the next view shows here "starting" to move again. Here it seems as if henriflix has done a better job of editing.
I love the economic history of this scene... Clark Gable did not wear an undershirt so the sale of undershirts decreased dramatically because everyone wanted to be like Gable. The sale of undershirts has never been the same... hahaha! Funny and True!
This scene is so deliciously sexy! So classic and fun. This is the best of Clark Gable and he was so wonderful as actor with perfect timing. He winks at her before removing his shoes and about to remove his pants. Absolutely perfect.
Gable's perfomance in GWTW was not chopped liver, but in this picture he and the delightful Claudette Colbert have perfect chemistry and comic timing. As the great English actor Edmund Kean supposedly said on his deathbed, "Dying is easy. Comedy is hard."
There's a popular myth about this picture that after audiences saw Gable take off his shirt, revealing his bare chest, sales of men's undershirts plummeted. However, there's no evidence to support that story -- it's just been repeated so often that it's become a factoid. Maybe men were buying fewer undershirts because of the Depression. Or maybe Clark Gable was only reflecting a style trend that was already happening. Or maybe the whole thing is just B.S.!
This was the first movie I ever saw Clark Gable in...I was in high school and hooked from that moment on. Love that man. Plus, hello, Bugs Bunny was modeled after Clark in this movie. How cool is that!?!
It's the scene where he's leaning against the fence chewing on a carrot while Claudette is trying to get them a ride. I saw it on one of those movie recap shows they show on TCM and then again on a site about Bugs Bunny some time back. Just trivial stuff that for some reason stuck in my brain.
It won Oscar for best picture, a feat paramount pictures didn't accomplish again until On Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, very many many decades later! Both Great Movies!
I think the best thing about this movie is that both of them didn't want to do it but it became a hit. Claudette Colbert even said to her friends after finishing filming "I just finished the worst picture of the year"

"It Happened One Night" was made by Columbia Pictures, not Paramount.

'Scuse my silly mistake, of course you are right, Columbia pictures did make both 'it happened one night' and 'one flew over the cuckoo's nest'
