  • i dont let anybody enter my mind with dirty feet...........mahatama gandhi

  • You can just feel the energy and the strength of that woman. Incidentally, I'm from Sri Lanka and I had the good fortune of meeting a previous inmate of a Sri Lankan prison who was reformed through the prison education system here. He explained how his knowledge improved dramatically and now he meditates daily and is a model citizen.

  • Hats off to you Ms. Kiran Bedi...

  • One tough woman.

  • kiran bedi = knavish lady

  • Women get extra help and support from everyone. Charity donations for a prison, sure if its a woman organising it. Also, females get treated gentler by everyone. So she doesn't need to waste so much energy "being tough" and has more energy left over to get change made.

Its anti-male sexism that holds men back from making change. A woman can change a system, but a system refuses to change for a man, and he gets rejected, thrown out, trampled, and has to create a new system elsewhere.

  • Beautiful woman, you have made such a difference to so many people's lives. What an inspiration. I am a vipassana meditator myself and it is my dream to have regular meditation courses established in New Zealand prisons.

  • Kiran bedi Rocks

  • Thanks for a lot of information

  • oh yeah crime is a result of distortion of mind, yeah sure, its totally not a result of having to eat dogshit in the streets because you were born in a dumpster or into a lower class clan right?

im sure all those street children in india steal bread because they have *distorted minds*

  • It is said she has a Nazist attitude towards wrong....

  • request you and to request-- souls ,grand souls, microsouls or any molecules of human or any creatures should not be taken under earth or any hell for any punishment ,any kind of torturings ,sufferings .and requests, what ever punishment ,should be given on the earth only .requests you to come forward to make to bring back every souls every molecules of humans fron under earth and hell and save everyone good or bad

  • in india ,tamilnadu ,human souls are taken under earth ,under rocks ,even to several thousnds kilometers under rocks, taking old revenges ,vengenes ,conspirancies ,polatics and given different shapes .in sevrages and made like aliens .taking under earth and beating and burning .please save to every one, every molecules and request to bring all the souls ,creatures from under earth to on earth .and requests to request not to spoil souls and humans.please save from pains sufferings .please save

  • Satisfying your ego, arrogance & trying to get media attention...or applying laws equally to all..its a thin line...parking ticket to Prime Minister :-)

  • oh, i love her! excellent work, she does what i've always dreamed could be done for the suffering here in america. oh PLEASE, america... get on board with this way!

  • @Ms Avatar2011Yea. pity on you..of being so shallow in depth of understanding life matters in poor country like india ( at that time ). Jealousy is so visible. I believe this is a forum where one can say his or her heart and mind out. so pls start to learn accepting views.

  • she is the one whom i'm listening about , she is a role model for all people!

  • @MsAvatar2011 exactly

  • @MsAvatar2011 She can do her own lauding very well. No achievement justifies such a display of vanity and nobody stands above criticism.

  • she made the world's most wanted underworld dons dawood ibrahim, abu salem etc to shit in their pants. she showed the new face of india where ppl could fight corruption and not hide from it. hats of to you kiran!

  • oops! I can see all Indian male ego's slapped for a six.

  • Worst TED Talk ever.

    Get her off stage.

She's a jerk in real life too as evident in this video. A [female] friend tried to get her interview a couple of years ago. My friend traveled all the way from Bombay - a 10 hour journey by train [the cheapest way to get there] with weeks of advance reservation - on her own money, college wouldn't fund her but required her to do this. Kiran refused to be interviewed stating she had TV appearances to make.

    Rant continued in reply...

  • ...continued

Clearly Kiran does not care about the plight of the Indian woman and what bothers me the most is that this TEDtalk is ripe with factual inaccuracies. It was not unheard of for a woman to be employed in the 50s, especially not in Delhi - one of India's most progressive cities.

  • Prime Minster Bedi

  • @ratje67 What the fuck was that? This woman has done so many great things, and you throw it into a trash bag of shit by implying she's selfish, and somehow TED is bad for letting her on? You're mistaking arrogance for the will to inspire, and the will to free.

  • @ilinaeternity Her talk gives that impression of a pushy selfcentered big ego....I didn't like her talk because it lacks substance.

If she's realy that great that talk didn't do her justice.

  • @ratje67 Perhaps this is true, that her presentation might have been misleading. I hope you won't judge on merely a video.

  • @ilinaeternity I didn't know her. Intrigued by this discussion I found out she is a popular award winning figure in India. My critic was purely about the presentation. I'm a big fan of TED because most talks give a great insight in progressive ideas. I hoped, based on other talks, she would illustrate methods or share some of her knowledge. With this expectation I was greatly disappointed by a talk that merely said; "Hey, look at me."

  • @ratje67 Yeah, I understand where you're coming from.

  • WTH. I have many Indian friends and they tell me this woman is a big fraud who lied and backstabbed her way to the top. Just read about her corrupted activities on Indian newspaper websites.

Why does TED give media time to such liars ?

  • @TimeGod12 Your friends are smoking something or confused.

  • @TimeGod12 I am interested to know who those Indian friends are. Damn, your Indian friends are very ignorant about her it seems.

  • No more TEDIKES

  • I think many people don't get the point. It's about how a single human being can bring a great change for the better.

  • @mondalaci and especially about how a woman changed so much in india

  • @mondalaci Yes, they can! It is called inspiration. Those who inspire believes in conviction called truth. That seed brings the an healthy plant which yields quality fruits. Tihar prison was bad, charismatic kiran bedi inspired with her knowledge, courage, charm, welfare etc.,....Thus she changed the quality of Tihar Jail. She is an inspiration and she deserves credit. It is God given.

  • I guess the people complaining about this talk missed the whole point of TED talks. She hammered it in, that with her willingness to change her surroundings and noticing the wrong around her life, she changed her view and others changed around her. WE can ALL do this if we choose to make a change. Stop complaining and make that change.

  • she has hardly mentioned any problems that are prevalent in the indian jails. the jails in india are overcrowded by a 100 percent. most of them are under trial who havent had a single trial hearing in years. it is flooded with hash and heroin and the state of the facilities is deplorable. one thing she forgot to mention was that prisoners demanded condoms in jails as they were having gay sex....and she refused...because it was against the government of india rules...some great work that was.....

  • i was educated!!! WOW [applaud]. I did my job(gave a fucking ticket to PM)!!! wow [applaud]. There were lessons and meditation in my jail. WOW [applaud].

Are they gone so dumb to put these "hey i am so great" people on stage?

  • This video is her personal story and its courageous one. I don't believe in silent achievements, if Obama or Bush can publish their achievements during presidential election so can a small lady from India. being silent is not equal being humble, maybe be some viewers came from vary bad background and tout to shut up, i came from a different point of view in which you should explain what you contributed.

  • she lost me at "pray"

  • love it every time she mentions "POwerrrr"

  • We wan't to make ourselves a namne here in India.

Search for Inane Drain here on Youtube!

  • 90% is you and 10% is not you, it something you can't control...

But it's that 10% that keeps punching me in the face :P

  • @leonidasx666 maybe it's your 666 by your nickname that keeps punching you in the face? :)

  • @matafixer You know what... you are probably right - LOL :D

  • She spent five minutes talking about herself, rather than giving detail about what she did. She did a crappy talk, and fell back on the "talk to me after this, watch this film" to actually get any information.

  • So what did she do with the prisoners now? She started and education and meditation program that was all community sponsored.

  • kiran bedi has penis envy and is a scoundrel dirty thieving indian bitch

  • god she scares me!

  • India is the only country that could rival China in financial success in the long run

  • Ugh why do so many ignorant people have to assume that not having long hair and wearing a lot of makeup is equated with looking like a lesbian. (Lesbians also have long hair and wear makeup.) Listen to her, instead of judging her appearance. Mind matters first.

  • Where are those videos gone where people gave these GREAT talks, not about themselves but on their innovating thought or findings? Going into detailed explanations that gave you insight in the matter.

It's all about her, about how great she is, how couragious and smart she handles stuff....

I hear very little about the prisoners.

They prayed and had lessons (and she became holy??) How Did It Work???

Did it work or is she just full of herself?

this can't be the new TED or I unsubscribe

  • @ratje67 Obviously, you were so busy analyzing how she worded her statements that you did not hear a word of what she did. Ask yourself, what have you done before making such statements.

  • @pa1pa1 In fact I watched it twice to see if missed information. I didn't criticise the way she words her story. I criticised the lack of attention the subject got compaired to the attention she gave her own person.

"Ask yourself, what have you done before making such statements."

I know all i've done and nothing I ever did took away my right to speak my mind. Not even if it frustrates you.

  • @ratje67 You are right about this being, "all about themselves." I wanted to hear what is was that called for the changes. What the out come was. Did it benefit their society, are there less prisoners now for it or more releases.

To me it sounded like she had a bigger mission which was to show men how much better, she thought, women are or can be. This talk was very shallow and was motivated by the way she was treated for being a woman in India.

It was a Soup Box speech all the way.

  • @ratje67 it was a great talk, I enjoyed it very much!

  • @matafixer I can appreciate you liked it.

  • @ratje67 Arghhhh I agree.... They should have another channel for these self-centered talks.

  • @ratje67 I think we ran out of them a while back. I remember wi-tricity (wireless electricity) and Michael Pritchard's Water Filter. I recall the 1st time I encountered Aurthur Ganson. Al Gore high five-in Anthony Robbins not long after AR told TED to get a f%*cken life. I used to sit mesmerized & glued to every delicious word oozing from the palette of real smart people assuring me "everything's going to be alright, we're onto it". I haven't felt that way for a very long time.

  • @bunions4444 "I used to sit mesmerized & glued to every delicious word oozing from the palette of real smart people" ...That's what I mean. A peek inside their minds instead of a stare at their faces. I loved how TED expanded my view on the world and on what's possible.

    "Ideas worth spreading"

    I miss that!

  • @ratje67

whatever you say: she did a lots of good stuffs, better than those who talk about innovations in TED talks. it is their innovation, so they can talk about it. this is also her innovation and her way of dealing and handling the prisons, so she is talking about it. but it is a kind of work where you talk about you and your work both cause this is more social, more about connecting people and giving them a better environment.

she is not holy, who says she is holy? continue

  • @ratje67

i don't know if she is full of herself, that could be a bad thing but the rest is just fine

  • Look's like you took the title a bit too literally, this is a partial biography of a remarkable woman in her own words. Brought up and succeeding in a society that favoured men over women. As it is not even 10 minutes long she is packing a huge history into those few minutes.

If you want to learn more about her work in prisons and with reforming the police in India, then use google, or was it the word "prisons" that lead you here? wanting to see big tattooed men talk about homosexuality?

  • @30Ciaran "wanting to see big tattooed men talk about homosexuality?"

That one sentence shows your narrow-minded prejudice. Was it meant as an insult? Even worse, you're judgemental about me, prisoners and homosexuals. You have not read or understood my comment and you obviously don't have a clue about the issue you're trying to discuss.

yes, the title starts with "HOW" and she only talks about the "I" and that bothers me. Independent of her being remarkable. That talk was a disapointment.

  • @30Ciaran And why did she only talk for ten minutes? Couldn't she spare ten more minutes on the "how" she handled the poor prisoners? Without her that prison would be a "Hell hole!". Well that's interresting and this being a TED talk there's an eager audience hoping to LEARN something.

So where's our missing ten minutes?!

And why didn't you miss them?

  • @ratje67 that's all you can say? you have no respect for women, so either you are muslim or a faggot. end of. reply to this at your own peril.

  • @30Ciaran How old are you? ten?

  • @ratje67 you wouldn't be saying this if she were a man...would you! then we'd all be praising her!

  • @michelledatey That's a presumptious sexist remark

  • @ratje67 true she doesn't speak about the project as much as herself, but maybe the purpose of this talk can be autobiographical, which gives an insight into another environment. In addition there is wisdom in her speech that can be benefited from. But I can see what you are saying.

  • @ratje67 my father meet her persnolly and she is a selfish person,

  • @ratje67 Acknowledge the fact that she talking to (almost) all women audience and that she is on Ted Women. She is very vocal about pro police reform and pro jail reform, frequent participant on talk shows and news interviews. She was supposed to become Delhi Commissioner (based on seniority and ability) but she wasnt appointed for obvious reasons. I know she sounds full of herself but take it as empowerment pep talk and you have got to admit she has got balls which many police officers lack.

  • @ratje67 dude! it's not that she prayed so became holy. it's just that how she influenced a corrupt mind to think something creative. she didn't brag about herself that she is couragious and handles stuff, instead she shared her ideas for others to watch and learn.

she was made the in charge of india's toughest prison that too at a time when women were just puppets in the hands of men. u'd have shit in ur pants if u wr made the incharge of even the smallest prison in india.

  • @ratje67 you shud know enough before commenting .. the rest can only laugh at ur ignorance and lack of understanding

  • @ratje67 Foolish and unscruplous comment. She is telling her story. you are being foolish and mean. in Hindi there is a saying or rather 'truck gyan'--" Jal maat rees kaar". why are you jealous of her achievements? if you have any brains then instead of being jealous try to emulate her. your meaningless life will have some meaning.shame on you and the rest 33 who have yessed your comment.

  • @phoenixsharma1 Your insults don't challenge my intellect. I had smarter reactions than yours that did result in interresting discussions. But to you I just throw an english saying; go fuck yourself.

  • @ratje67 bro, u indian ? or u been to india ? or u have any idea about the political and bureaucracy in india ? if yes, then u are wrong. if no, then don't assume. i hope u understand.

  • @ratje67 ur viewpoint suffers the myopic distortion of westernism and the generation in generality..not that it is your mistake..but i only wish that you had googled kiran bedi a moment before you hit enter on your post. kiran bedi symbolises the essence of radicality we, as people as a society and as indians, snubb out effectively to avoid the scrutiny that comes along with the attitude of radicality...she defied a tradition outlasting the lifetime of most the countries that exist today..

  • @ratje67 she was born at a time when a male dog wud have been preferred over a girl child only cos it was male. female childs were looked upon as a punishment. her appopintment as an IPS officer was a first..and an inspiration even today not just to women but every person born into a disadvantage. the jail she was talking about is called the Tihar jail.google it some time to understand the legacy it holds.its an equivalent for azkaban.a one way ticket for the most hardcore of prisoners.

  • @ratje67 she wasnt gloating..and if she was trying to then she barely scratched the surface...her achievements can fil volumes.. i dont know who you are..and from which country you are..but TED is a platform for ingenuity and radicality..if a person is standing there it means he/she has qualified among 6.7 billion people..their lives are their message..the talk is just a summary..18 minutes?..really..its like compressing a bluray qlty movie into a floppy disk...

  • @ratje67 .. thought of explaining to you why she deserves that all accolade on TED. but on second thought.. aain leave it. you better unsubscribe. :)

  • @ratje67 in her time, it's not easy for a woman to go out and do a job in India. Police, working in a Prison is like climbing everest for an Indian woman at that time period.

  • @ratje67

I dont compltely agree with the idea that they pray together but the idea itself which is to involve prison guards and the prisoners into a common activity is a good idea. It humanizes each other in their own perspective

  • @ratje67

she is a phenomenon. she explained that she introduced meditation in prison. A form of meditation known as "VIPASANA". for these prison reforms she was awarded Asian noble prize. she also shared her philosophy of life(90-10)

What she had achieved in country like India is unmatched. there is a film made on her you can check on youtube

"Yes, Madam, Sir excerpts from Changing the World through Film lecture"

she is currently spearheading anti corruption movement.

  • @ratje67 i dont know from which nation you are ???

but bro just see the revolution against corruption going on in india ..........

and you know .she is one of the pioneer in that....

just search ombudsmen bill in india and anna hazare and her..u will know that she is not full of anything but she actually did something.

the first women ips officer of india and still is giving more and more to the country

would you give a parking ticket to the primeminister of your country.lol

    thumbs up

  • @ratje67 Dude do some research before getting caught in your own perception of things... If you like motivational videos, then create one yourself. Do ourselves a favor, delete your top rated comment.

  • so what do they teach in prisons?

  • I couldn't hear what she was saying over the sound of her ego..

  • @Plecebo1996 good for her!

  • @Plecebo1996 Naaww man i don't think it was ego

she was just proud of how far she'd come. Im sure if I was telling an audience a fast forwarded version of my life full of so many accomplishments, Id be smiling too =]

  • She spent almost all her time talking about herself and almost no time talking about whateevr it was she actually did.

  • ah dude i love this woman! Ah I wish she was my sister I'd get to hang out with her!

  • Al Gore = Homo

  • Crime is the product of a distorted mind? False. Crime is predominantly the product of economic inequality. If you look for the main geographical locations of "distorted minds", thats criminals to you and me, you will find that they come from areas that are disadvantaged economically and therefore socially. Crime cannot be stopped by prisons. A small minority will always have to be locked up but the "harming people who harm people, to show that harming people is wrong" approach doesn't work. (A)

  • @DuffmanIRL Totally agree

  • WHAT THE FUCK BUSH'S FAMILY DOING THERE.THEY SHOULDN'T LET THOSE IDIOTS TO TED.

  • @HANIFX They need the education more than anyone...

  • @PsySwitch1983 Where in this presentation did you get that?

    80% of prisoners are men.

And how successful have male -controlled prisons fared?

  • @kinsmed It goes further, this talk was about one very strange woman with a very novel idea for a prison of degenerates. It has nothing to do with Men vs. Women at all.

  • @PsySwitch1983 She isn't man hating, she is the product of a culture that genuinely subdues women. I dislike her because she is so full of herself. I am actually an Indian male and I can tell you from my own familial contacts etc, that women are not respected sufficiently in India. Also she never really hated men, she was just stating how she was different from the men of her locale due to her strange upbringing.

  • "do you pray?" "Yes on little children, im a pedophile"

  • ..... a bit pretentious i think......

  • @Tpar1234 - The men are in jail.

  • this is great

  • i ggreewww up :D

    its an officer

  • canada is not a different corner of the world from the US :/

  • Yay time to change prisons.

  • she has the most annoying voice...ever....

  • @jay19xxx Seriously man? I don't buy much into what she's saying either, but being a racist asshole isn't gonna get you anywhere. Take your hate somewhere else.

  • @CatastrophicDisease Live in India for a fucking 3 year stint and then tell me they are not the worst of the human species and most of all the cocksucking rich indians who are the most corrupt.

  • @jay19xxx Trust me dude, living in Canada is worse. I had to do that for fucking five years. They're the most faggoty pieces of shit haha.

  • @jay19xxx ----she is as honest as jesus

  • @abh3092 we will take your word for it , she is a saint, god help us all.

  • @jay19xxx She was one of the most honest police officers in delhi police thats why she always got transferred to difficult posts, my father told me in the 80s when she was in traffic police she used to always drive with crane and she towed away every car that was wrongly parked on the road even the PM indira gandhi's car thats how she got the nickname "crane bedi".

  • @2q0q07q - There is a fine line between being "correct" and understanding the job. You could argue that driving round in a crane and being so pro-active in her policing she was nothing more than a righteous zealot. The most effective policing i have ever seen has no real resemblance to her earlier days. That kind of get things done mentality is best left to the army. Policing requires a great deal more politics....

  • @TheSpankymonkey I wrote about the crane story to explain to jay that she was honest & not like most indian police officers because she did not even spare the PM . She wasnt a zealot , the cranes were used mostly for traffic management during 1982 Asian games , otherwise during her career she brought in lots of reforms & initiatives to make people into better citizens & prevent crime for which she won many international & ind awards.

  • @jay19xxx - Do be quiet, this is a place for adults. Not children.

  • @TheSpankymonkey eat a bowl of cock defender of the fag and the irrelevant.

  • @jay19xxx - You know, if you keep your mouth shut people will always be in a state of suspense as to whether you are an idiot or not. Best keep quiet rather than remove all doubt in peoples minds....

  • @TheSpankymonkey There is no doubt about your intelligence or lack there off, you are product of incestuous sex, and your mother was passed around by me and my buddies last night at a nickel a shot, best sex she had since the morning as the men folk at home are to busy fucking each other in the ass. How is that for keeping quiet you resulted from a hole that smells of a 1000 cocks and your intelligence is about as sharp as the anus of a money.

  • @jay19xxx - Be my guest, when you come up with something that actually resembles some form of intellect or indeed insult then do let me know. In the meantime i guess others can enjoy your displays of idiocy. Like i said, people didn't need to know how stupid you really are, if you had kept your mouth shut... You could of walked this, leaving people with an impression of you that was by far more than what you deserved. I guess you can't see that, Dunning-Kruger perhaps?

  • @jay19xxx "There is no doubt about your intelligence or lack there off" - Best not make comments about peoples intelligence whilst displaying a lack of your own intelligence/education. It's thereof, not "there off". Muppet.

  • Kiran Bedi is impressive though she lacks a commanding personality. Relies too much on her rank and the media and so on. You need this natural charisma for leadership and so forth.

Though I think she can do a lot more maybe. She also did this TV show where she plays a judge and makes decision over people's personal lives, this is highly unethical because these poor people are paid and their lives turn into entertainment with her being some self-appointed judge - not my cup of tea.

  • she needs to slow down in her speech

  • Right...we should give religious instruction to criminals. That works out well...

  • @dookiecheez Meditation is not religious. It allows you to focus and calm your mind down to a controllable state in which you can reflect upon your thoughts and actions with clarity. She never once mentioned the word religion.

  • @kornerguy

....Meditation can be A-religious, but it generally isn't. She specifically said prayer, and if I remember correctly equated the two things. Not to mention that she said ASHRAM.

  • Zod bless this women. When I was in India, I would read about people dieing from neglect in Indian prisons, their newspapers (while I was in an Indian hospital getting kidney dialysis) . Catch malaria and can't fly out in time and you can go to prison for overstaying your visa. (tit for tat, America)

  • Prayer, seriously?

  • This will never happen in the USA, the people here are too ignorant, don't understand, and don't want to change. I hate it here. I wanna get out of this country and renounce my citizenship at the rate things are going now. But where is there to go?

  • @WyldOrbit Sweden! Worked for Assange...

  • @hollium not sure i want to be part of a country that man hunts someone internationally for a 714 dollar fine.

  • @WyldOrbit Don't give-up your (shrinking) rights and benefits of U.S. citizenship. Get dual-citizenship. Renouncing the U.S. I can see but ,as an ex-pat you want all the help you can get. And you can legally receive american social security while living abroad. so..

  • @bluegreen1138 thanks for the advice, but i could really care less about it. I would want nothing to do with it.

  • @WyldOrbit They have done that meditation in US prisons...there are 3 research studies that have been conducted with Vipassana on US prisoners. In fact, there is a documentary "Dhamma Brothers" about it :) It also had profound impact...

  • @OneSproutAtaTime Its too bad that the usa is such a stupid christian conservative country that it will never come to fruition..

  • Why do so many strong women have to be so lesbian-looking?

  • @HadeanAgent its probably just wishful thinking on your behalf, and mine lol

  • @HadeanAgent

I believe that it is the way they have to act and dress to be accepted in a male-dominated society/culture. It's just an end result to living and making your life in a very deeply rooted patriarchal system

  • @FoxBatinaHat No, this reasoning is by no means justifiable. Look at our Secretary of Home Land Security. She could be Kiran's lover. A lesbian is a lesbian and you can always tell a lesbian when you see him.

  • @HadeanAgent

If it walks like a lesbian, and talks like a lesbian...

  • @bongapendo If she walks like a lesbian; And talks she talks like a lesbian; she may be carrying a strap-on so be careful because you & your hades agent will be the ones getting fucked in more ways than one.

Bring two pennies so you can pay Charon for the trip across the river Styx.

  • @vistavision2

Haha. You must have ran into one angry lesbian. Thank you for sharing your experience and for warning us. I will heed your advice and be careful.
