@Noodle1423 Actually I quite liked both old and new namely Evangelion (dark/moody), Nadesico (Philosophical/Comedy), Code Geass (Tactical). Its unfair to just split the world into pre 2000 and post 2000, since both have its highlights.

@finalrequest1 what the hell are you talking about? #1 called Dragon Ball Z Kai, #1 Great Saiyanman (however the hell you spell it) was just Gohan in a costume because he was around normal people. Gotenks was just Goten and Trunks fused together, Hercule is just the father if Videl, they ain't clowns by any means.

@EVILgnarlygnome lol why r u trashing a show that has nothing to do with nadeshiko...i like r2 and think it has a good plot, true the merging of consciousness came out of nowhere since we never see lelouch's father viewpoint until the last few episode but that's the only exception...the show wasn't about that any way or about the mechas either...u can't expect to watch a show with a name like code geass and not have a few individuals who possess those power or something similar.

I personally found evangelion very confusing as a kid and didn't get the whole picture until later on. Nadesico had a cute love theme thing going on whilst Code Geass is more about tyranny and control. Please explain in detail why you think Code Geass is a crap rip off. I don't see anything wrong with presenting ideas/themes from a different point of view.

@ZhilTP911 - I dunno. Maybe I've been spoiled by New Getter Robo and Shin Mazinger (2008), but TTGL's seemed ever too predictable. In the other two, I know who's going to win, but it still gets me to sit up and get dragged into something where I already know the ending...and get excited. By comparison, in TTGL, I have a "Well THAT will succeed and THAT will happen" effect.

I think I understand. Even if you know who's going to win, if you like the characters and the robots, its still exciting. TTGL was a bit paint by numbers, character wise. Never saw New Getter Robo, but Shin Mazinger definitely had better characters that you could cheer for. TTGL had flashy animation and flashy emotions, but it was a bit more shallow.

The only thing TTGL is hands down better than Nadesico at is that it conclusively ended.

I just finished watching episode 1 of this series. Good animation, fast paced action and comedy and cool mecha/ship designs. All sorta done with a seemingly satricical feel to it.

I think I'm gonna enjoy this series.

I've only seen about 15 episodes of this series in English. The brilliant part is that it's a parody . . . but it's not a parody. It can play both ends well. It occasionally gets a little obnoxious, but it does have its themes and focus.

Dont be silly. How hard is it to make fun of Macross? Not that hard considering one of the plot devices is that a pop idol can turn the tides of war by singing an average j-pop song. Macross is a great show, and is a great inspiration for a parody.

Macross has a crap-ton of cheesy elements in it. I mean sure it's a classic, one of my personal favorite anime of all time, and it helped to revolutionize the medium, but it's also got its really corny and campy elements and is incredibly easy to poke fun at and Nadesico certainly is poking fun at Gundam and Macross as much as Mazinger Z, Getter Robo, and Voltes V.

One of my favorite anime OPs. That's a snazzy, percolating melody line. Particularly the first 60 sec. "Demo kanarazu kanau to shinjiteru yo ..."

Nadesico -- Last of the hand-drawn (i.e. pre-CGI) mecha space operas! A good series, with a few flaws, but lots of heart and a unique tone. And Ruri was great.

about the only thing that Nadesico has in common with evangelion is two eva voice actors, Spiker Spencer as the voice of Akito Tenkawa and Tiffany Grant as Akito Tenkawa ,their the ones who did the voices of Shinji and Auska in Evangelion. other then that the only other conection is that they were both released in North America by ADV

There was also a commercial for the Nadesico movie that almost directly parodied the Death/Rebirth commercial by using a somber Ruri (instead of Rei) as narrator while they show lots of kanji flashing by the screen and set to classical music. :)

But Nadesico is a parody of many many things, so it makes sense they parody Evangelion in places.
