  • This is so incredible and I loved watching this so thanks so much!

  • Who plays Raoul?? He's hooooottttttt :)

  • I was lucky to see Phantom in Toronto several times in the early 90's --met Colm Wilkinson and had my picture taken with him -- I had sung Christine in excerpts with a tenor for performances with a local orchestra. It was hard to sit in the theatre as I kept singing along! I remember singing a few bars of "Phantom" with Colm when I met him and he was so gracious -told me to leave my name with his assistant! I was returning to the States the next day. But Crawford was the best Phantom IMO.

  • Colm Wilkinson is the true ORIGINAL PHANTOM as he sang it in Sydmonton. He wasn't a 'Stand-in'. He couldn't get out of his Les Miserable role.

  • thank you for uploading this!

  • @Doctor0Strangelove11 - You are most welcome, my friend.

  • AWWW! Andrew is so cute :3

  • It wa suppost to be a small privite thing. So naturally someone taped it.

  • what's the song that plays at 2:30?

  • DO IT!!!!

  • Hal Prince is a beast! :D phantom wouldent be as good if it werent for his direction...

  • I'm really glad they changed the lyrics.

  • Can somebody please explain how All I Ask Of You has a major 9th in it? As to what I'm playing I'm not getting it. Although I doubt Lloyd Webber is wrong!

Ps. Doesn't On My Own have Major 9th? Is he not familiar with Les Mis?!

  • Actually Lon Chaney was the first( 1925). My only critique us the use of the name Erik, the phantoms real name.

  • I like how Colm Wilkinson was the "first" phantom. Then later went and starred in the Canadian production. He sounded much better in that than in this one lol

  • @ShadyxxLady Hal Prince is my hero too! I want to do what he does one day! :D

  • Is it just me, or is that Neve Campbell @ 2:22?

  • @TheLightningmikester Huh. Looks like her, doesn't it?

  • "But why give you flowers, they only last for hours" ??????? This is a great glimpse into the creative process, even the masters don't get it right the first time. Thanks for posting the series, had no idea it existed.....

  • @skylord58 You are most welcome, my friend.

  • I love how Jonathan Allen calls Maria Bjonson a "crazy genius" because in a way you kind of have to be crazy to work in show business.....and it's a good kind of crazy!!!

  • Their right....Maria Bjonson (sic) was a genius! RIP Miss Bjonson!

  • I like how Hal Prince is so American. Like, really, really American. "Do it."

  • Isnt the main reason for Webber's Sydmonton Festival apart from Act I of Webber's lastest musical to get Booze ?

  • Sarah most certainly is the reason for Phantom...give credit where credit is due....that voice deserved to be written for

  • I said DO IT, then he said, "You DO IT" then I said, "Ok I'll do it", regulary, I don't do that XD

  • to be honest, i believe that sarah and webber were perfect for each other, in one of the later in this series, a critic says " Sarah only got the role because of the fact she was webbers wife, shes not that pretty of a voice, and shes not attractive." SARAH IS MY DREAMGIRL! she is so hot!

  • I AM OBSESSED WITH THIS MUSICAL!!!!!

  • I love how the video clips at 2:00 are of Colm Wilkinson and Rebecca Caine, while they're all talking about Brightman and her volcals are playing XD

  • Oh well of course it wasn't Barton yet, he wasn't casted yet..my bad lol

  • Who sings 'I could bring you flowers..' in the very early version of All I ask of you. It can't be Steve Barton..as least I think not. I really like this guys voice though

  • Flowers? They only last for hours?

  • lol...."Do it!!"

  • Thank God they changed the lyrics.

  • i love this show !!!!! the music is beautifull!!!

  • I truly believe Andrew's love for Sarah was one of the biggest reasons why Phantom was so successful. I'm not sure if Andrew Lloyd Webber found an inspiration as captivating while writing Love Never Dies, that's why I'm worried about it. But I'll still make sure to catch it when it opens on Broadway

  • Yeah, your right! The moment I saw these vids, I reliezed that Webber wasn't doing the sequel for love! There's nothing really big to drive him on. Hopefully he has really good ideas!

  • Maybe it has to do with his and Sarah's divorce. -__-

ALW's cat had the right idea.

  • Maybe your right. Maybe LND shows that Andrew really still loves Sarah

  • PHANTOM RULZ!!!!!!!

  • Maria Bjornson was an amazing artist!

  • Andrew looks a bit like Tony Blair in this film!! Haha

  • Its very weird seeing Colm sing this role with his beard. :P

  • the soundtrack to this doco is genius

  • the clips of trhe 1925 version are perfect quality! where are they from do you figure?

  • odds are they are from the 1929 print made with some sound and slightly different camera angles from different shooting takes. the original 1925 print is of much poorer quality byt is still great to watch.

  • @thEannoyingE

I know that. almost all the prints today are the rerelease. I meant, what DVD/video release.

  • I can't believe Colm Wilkinson was the first stand-in for the Phantom! That is absolutely amazing. He has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.

  • colm is just amazing!

  • Colm Wilkinson IS amazing. I love him as Valjean, but was even more impressed when I bought the Canadian version of Phantom of the Opera to discover that he played the Phantom in there! He has a very distinct voice and was much different from other Phantoms, but I loved it. It's because he's different that he's so amazing!

Oh, and his "Point of No Return" is drool worthy. Any time I listen to him sing it, I completely melt in my seat, hehe. ^_^

  • Phantom hypnotysez me! I love it sooooooooooo much! Thanks for posting this!

  • May I repeat my earlier sentiment? AWESOME! YAY! I wanted to see this, but I don't have Ovation....

  • this documentary is fantastic and brillent!!!!!thankyou sooooooooooo much u legend!!!!!

  • This so great to watch! And I love all the characature drawings, and the clips from Spitting Image of Weber and Brightman haha.

  • this documentary is WAY better then the one on the movie DVD

  • @Disneydanny Couldn't agree more - it was much drier and was much more of a PR exercise for the show! -This gives the REAL story!!

  • You are most welcome, my friend.

  • This is fantastic thank you!

  • You are most welcome.
