Why do you assume Jesus is someone to hate or love? If he existed, he's been dead for a long time, so I don't get why you're using the present tense. And I don't even believe he existed as the historical figure that he's  portrayed to be. There's been quite some research about this, by the way.

However, this is a superb tune. I love gospel music. But I don't take it too literally, thanks god (?!)

@eduard1952 There have been quite some research about everything and every so often science have to renew itself in order to fit the current accepted norm. I don't blindly believe everything I come upon but the biblical character Jesus touches my heart in such a way one can't just throw him away as something science disproofs. Science is never complete and I believe we will never be all knowing. The human mind is very deceiving but a sound belief in God makes life worth living if you ask me.

Do you know who wrote this old religious song originally? According to the liner notes (of course I bought this 2nd solo release by Greg Graffin) it lists what songs Greg wrote and then says:

"other traditional songs with many versions and unknown writers." Since there isn't any real claim to these old folk songs it is fair to list Greg Graffin since it appeared on his recent solo album and he "made" it his own with his rendition of it.

I think that it is more the arrangement can be accreditated to Greg Graffin. Although one has it's own character, the folk root comes Graffins Solo record. The original recording that i heard when i was a kid sounded much more gospalesq.. Great song.

thats what i thought, Cold as The Clay is full of old american country songs, Omie Wise, Talk about..., Little Sadie, Willie Moore.

though before i knew this was an old song, if it were written by Graffin it would have very heavy ironic undertones with his athiest/naturalism

I almost think Greg picked this song outta sarcasm more than anything, but I don't know why he picked it honestly.

I know he said that he grew up in Wisconsin and himself and his family would all sit around and play folk songs around a fire. So maybe that had something to do with it.

I apologize this wasn't written better, but I'm sorta tired and should be going to sleep soon. He writes about this in the liner notes for "The Cold as The Clay" cd.

suffering seems to be the main theme on that album, especially senseless suffering mainly inflicted by the social, economical and religious based problems in the last hundred years in americas history.

so a song about the "christian way" of "dealing" with this suffering makes sense to me...

The only critique I have, you should setup an external mic to the video camera. You should alittle distant in your videos. It distorts your dead on pitch and hramonics. I would also LOVE to hear you with a strong accompany backup vocal. Especially for the parts of Br songs that call for it.
