  • a-ha are brilliant.

  • i found this in a post from 2005

  • This does not please the Bond-folk who expected a-ha to cancel their sold-out tour to be at the premiere. John Barry takes this opportunity to speak out to the press about how difficult a-ha are to work with. The decision is made to neglect the song in the States and use another song as the title song for the U.S. version of the movie.

  • @cristinawilligs

i never knew a different song was used in the american version of the film.

what an ass hole he is doing that eh, also....have you ever heard a-ha's song........spy me at noon ? its a fantastic song and sounds like it was written just for a bond film.even more so than the great song the living daylights.

    dave,

  • @theBESTelvis im a fan but never heard of it, guess i lost the track on them since i preffer to listen mp3 than radio but thanks ill check out

  • @cristinawilligs

ITS ON YOUTUBE, I've tons of rare a-ha on mps, cd's . spy me at noon i have on mp3 to.

  • @theBESTelvis greate song thanks

  • Barry was angry at a-ha because they didn't want to credit him as a writer to the track, but the track had already been written a couple of months earlier by Pål Waaktaar. while on tour with a-ha . The Royal Premiere of the James Bond film "The Living Daylights" is held in London. Charles and Diana from the Royal family attend. a-ha cannot be there as they are on tour in Japan.

  • " The song is actually written by Pål Waaktaar and Magne Furuholmen in a-ha. John Barry wasn't involved with the production of the song. Barry was credited as a producer, but this is wrong. He never actually touched the production of the track, at all. Like Waaktaar once said in an interview: "He wanted to produce the song, but he never showed up in the studio"

  • This song is chosen to be used for the next James Bond film "The Living Daylights". During the recording process of the song, it becomes apparent that John Barry has a problem with not being one of the song writers and therefore replaces Magne's name in the credits for his.

  • a-ha are amongst artists such as Queen and Paul McCartney who are asked if they would like to perform the new James Bond song. Pål and Magne have already written the basis of a song which they feel would be suitable and send it in.

  • i dont see morten harket on this interview

  • I really don't understand why Barry continues to talk badly about a-ha. The song is actually the 5th highest charting 007 title song to ever chart in England. In no way is the song a bad spot on his resume. Considering the long and distinguished line of singers who has performed the Bond songs, i think a-ha did very well.

  • @Cta2006, Anyone familiar with Barrys work would easily confirm you about him being always critical. Critical on his own work and collaborations. He is never pleased about his music in a sense of content. He always wants more. I always respected John for that, because he would never lower his standards for anyone. He even abandoned some scores because of that. He knows what he wants and that is what makes Barry superb composer

  • @AouretVolkenVisage the thing is that I dont think barry didn´t like their work..he was angry beacuse he wanted them to be present at the movie opened but they have a comitment wich was a concert in japan the same day..so beacuse of that he put the pretender´s song in the debut of the movie..and very bad attitude of him talking so bad about a great band!!

  • @dayargrosario

You have to understand, such disputes are very common with score legends when dealing with young bands. You won’t find much interviews with Nich Rhodes and Barry as well, and for a very good reason. It is well documented, that Rhodes (althought great asset) was constanly irritated with being less educated in craft then Barry, and constantly refused to take his suggestions.

  • Never mind they did not get along with Barry . They met and produced an unforgettable brilliant pop song.

  • if i ever get a band together, i would like to cover this song and possibly make it heavier.

  • I do have to admit that I prefer the single version which includes all the production from John Barry. The version on the Stay on these roads album is not as good in my opinion. Considering they didn't get along you would not have thought it having heard the end result, superb!

  • @ahacarl, It is great when people fight over substantial results. Today, synergy of artist and composer is nonexistent in Bonds. And I wont even mention results which are awful.

  • @ahacarl, They were very young, they couldnt match neither craft of maturity of Johns work. Young Paul nevertheless created a superb melody and Barry sculptured the rest with remarkable class and elegance of his recognizable signature.

  • @ahacarl, The most important thing is the song and the same is superb today as it was then. I also find Barrys arrangements far superior over A-ha insisted synth line motive near the end of the song. But we are talking a few seconds after all. But, it is a great thing when people have something concrete to fight about. Talent is nowhere to be found today and I miss this golden times.

  • @ahacarl, Chrissie Hyndes song from LD sound like a mantra today : Where Has Everybody Gone? That is my estimation about present world of popular music state of industry. Gone with Cubby Broccoli for good Im afraid.

  • A-HA are amazing!!

  • booopdooop if your not interested in a-ha then why are you on here watching a video about them??? Theyve been around for 20 odd years so theyre not as shit as you think.

  • I Never Knew They All Never Got Along With Barry While Recording Daylights.

  • "But behind closed doors, the working relationship wasn't quite so much fun after all."

"I'll need some plastic explosives and a timer."

    LOL!

  • I like both of A-Ha's songs and all 2,613 cues by Barry.

  • John Barry is an old fuck. He is a real english snob and his success has turned to his head.

A-ha was from the start, and is, un-spoiled and down to earth.

  • Go ahead and fuck a-ha, it takes a fag like you to do it.

  • Fuck you yer Danish cunt.

  • they are norwegian - if you didnt like them, just fuck off. this is a good song and i actually liuke a-ha so go away.

  • a-ha still record, release and tour after 25 years in the business. They still sell millions and still play for 10's of thousands in audiences around the world and it's been a long time since they have had any propper backing from the UK or US musicindustry. All in all they are doing pretty well compared to most other, - what some might call typical 80's bands.

  • As for Barry, he is a music genious, but he is also the man who once referred to a-ha as the Hitlerjugend. Pretty much says it all about that man and how he can be to work with.

  • a-ha has fans as varied such as Chris Martin and Coldplay, Keane, Travis, Radiohead, Liam Gallagher, Sarah Brightman, Robbie Williams, Neil Tennant ( Pet Shop Boys ), Adam Clayton, Leonard Cohen, Carl Perkins, The Everly Brothers, Graham Nash ( of the Crosby Stills and Nash ) and who sings backing vocals on a-ha's Analogue album, Carl Perkins, Audioslave, Kanya West, Morrissey to name just a few and they have all spoken very favorably of a-ha. Some on several occations.

  • Coldplay, Robbie Williams, Kanya West, Liam Gallagher, Keane & Travis :D :D :D basically all the mainstream bands/artists that for PR reasons feel obliged to give A-Ha a good name. Barry is not just a superb writer but he is a principled man and he just told it like it probably was.

  • Liam Gallagher basically never says anything positive about other bands. I doubt he felt that he had to mention a-ha. Coldplay has commented on a-ha on to many occations to mention, both in Norwegian, American, German & British paper press and radio. I seriously doubt that they would have mentinoed a-ha in such great detail and so many times if it was only for their own promotional gain. What does Coldpaly have to gain for mentioning a Norwegian band like a-ha in the British and American press ?

  • fuck off no-one wants to hear your opinion - if i started to didd your music, youd get pissed off so dont start please ffs

  • The Bond films has never been the same since Barry left. We can all agree that he is a music genious. However you don't refeer to anyone as Hitlerjugend. Not under any circumstance. Barry has been around for a while, he should have known better than to use such a comparison.

  • Ok all the Pretender fans giving a-ha thumbs down in the comments are being really petty and stupid. a-ha got the song, The Pretenders didn't, get the fuck over it. This is 1987 we're talking about here. And as someone said before me, there really was no reason for John Barry to make fun of a-ha's name which was actually quite intelligently thought out in a way, if you know the story behind it. He's just angry they were keeping their integrity intact and not kissing his old fossil ass.

  • Really? So this friction couldn't have possibly been caused by simple artistic differences?

  • this is a good bond movie and a good song by one of my favourite bands. shame john barry and a-ha didnt get on.

  • a-ha is the best of the best the royalty of the pop music world, face it at once, they are still rolling and they came for more, as a group also in their individual projects

  • LOL

  • well, it was a great song one of my favourite bond/a-ha tunes but it was sad that john barry and aha hated each other. this is why this band were never really mentioned in the bond subject.

  • I love A-Ha!

  • "Anyone who calls themselves 'A-Ha" Was there really any reason to comment this way Mr. Barry ? What has that to do with the issue ? Childish.

  • juangy 9, u are an idiot. A-ha is a great band so piss off.

  • "Anyone who calls themselves 'A-Ha" - priceless

  • Dream on)))

  • you are a moron and stupid, who are you? face it you are a real looser a-ha is the best of the best, and if you say that is because you are a total an complete ignorant about the pop music world

  • JB is a genius!

  • John Barry is right, really. He knows the thrill!

  • haha... cranky old John Barry!

  • Thank you.

  • Love it! Thanks shapes1973...
