i am qualified to talk. i am nearly sixty now. when i was in my twenties i danced in movies, in Hollywood. real movies, not bull. and you have a lot of work to do , you two, if you want to get to be halfway, halfway , decent dancers. just knowing the steps, that is not the thing, you have to study ballet, and learn gracefulness, sorry to tell you , you are too heavy, both of you. dancers need to be lighter unless you are into tap only, i see jazz and disco background, but study and practice.
what a disappointment. i did not think they were doing it in 2007. you too, well, the man is not light enough, nor is she. lose some weight, then man dancer, don't look at your feet, and it is not well enough rehearsed, it needs to flow, you man, are more like travolta, heavy on your feet, you look like a begineer, sorry, you need practice, and some ballet as well, in your background both of you. lady, you are doing bob fossee, not the right mode, take it graceful and softer like cyd, work at it
why do pricks feel the need to clap really hard and woop during the performance - just watch and enjoy it and clap at the end u assholes instead of ruining it
@innit27 Sometimes it depends on the dance tradition people are used to. I do middle-eastern dance and yelling out encouragement during the performance is not only normal, as dancers we enjoy it as it creates a connection with the audience and makes us feel appreciated. When an audience just sits expressionless and gives back no energy I find it really tough to dance!
However if a song is very slow/quiet/dramatic I can understand how that could ruin the mood.
@Sarcasmhime yeah but this is an annoying american audience who woop and holler when someone picks their nose. They basically do it at the sexy points of the dance to cover their embarrasment. When you have a mixed audience watching strippers this also happens. One person in the audience breaks into really loud applause on their own basically to show off oh look at me appreciating certain moves what an expert i am - yeah but it ruins the music and mood u dick.
@LautnersBaby I hate to say it, but what's taught as"Jazz" dance today is absolute tripe. Its so far removed from its roots, if it was a tree, it'd be kindling. Maybe even clapboard, the way its been artificially processing and packaged to middle class America. Not saying that this is Jazz, but as mentioned, this is a student showcase, they're showing off what they've learned. Gotta give'm some props for getting up in front of an audience and performing.
This woman can't move ( no matter if it's swing, jazz, or ballroom dances technique, she's just so heavy)! Why doesn't she public a video where she is doing something she' s good in...
Wow, you guys are rough on these people. She's a student for cryin out loud! She's not a pro. It's her first showcase. Give her a break. I'm an instructor and I think she did an amazing job for her level. Come on people, lighten up!
The lady is a student, I do not know her level but as a dancer, I have done my share of mistakes and I still do. It is difficult to change rhythm and patterns throughout a dance, let alone in a jazzy rendition. I was impressed - this is a long varied (many different movements and figures) dance. Congratulations to both. thanks for the cameraman who took the time (and risk) of filming this performance. Lancelot
Guy- you seem to have the basic principles, great characterisation at the start and style but you really need to relax and use your knees more!
Girl - enjoy it, you're far too tense and it shows in the hips, let yourself go more and you've got it.
Overall good piece it's good to see more people who are fans of the likes of Fred, Gene and Cyd. Does anyone else agree that we should have stars like them on the screens?
the women is too stiff but her hands are all over the place, let yourself flow into movements move, try not to slouch too much and the guy, use your knees more like the great mr kelly, relax them and bend into themoves. And i do know what im talking about, im a champion dancer :)
Wasn't the music the same as the music of Gene Kelly and Vera-Ellen in "Slaughter on Tenth Avenue"? It would be more appropriate to have a ballet rather than what you danced. But it was good!
Cyd Charisse? Gene Kelly? NO WAY!

I thought it was okay. She's a lot taller than her partner AND she's a better dancer than he is. Must have been tough on him.

This wasn't great...The woman isn't a very good dancer. But it looks like they're enjoying themselves so they get a point for that.
