  • thinking of doing a vtec turbo swap into a mini looking at more like 350hp+ though might be too much really duno if i can get brakes for a mini that could stop it lol

  • what type if sub frame did you us? home made or aftermarket. Do you have any pics of engine bay fabrication? Could you send me some info and pics of what you need for the swap. I plan on using a b16a2 but don't want to spend 2500 for a sub frame. Thanks. kidjmk@cox.net

  • Good work my friend, lots of power and you won't be stuck under the bonnet every weekend with over-tuned A-series. Plan on doing this myself to my old banger at some point, but I'm thinking mid-mounted and rear wheel drive.

    I think people on here need to realise that they are perfectly entitled to do whatever they want to their Mini...whatever floats your boat.

    If you haven't seen them already, check out the Mini Madness and Mini Mayhem DVDs, they cover every engine swap there is going.

  • its not a question of cost, tuning an A series engine to 180bhp is far more expensive than installing a v tec engine.

    which is why I said easy way out. V tec just sold on ebay for 750pounds labour costs 2000 + parts pounds + 750 = 2750 pounds.

    Hi performance mini engine straight cut gears, 180bhp 7000 pounds. whats the logic ?? honda+mini = bad investment loss of money. do a mini well keep it original always a good return. Mini classic cooper S just sold for 29000 pounds.

  • im sure it did for sell that much, in standard perfect original condition. which is rare, and i doubt yours is that good.

    why wouldnt you take the "easy way out"?

    why spend more money doing the same task.

    by tuning the A series engine you aren't keeping it standard as it came out the showroom.

    if performance is the object (which it obviously in this vid) then surely the engine that gives better performance in the one to go for.

    you think he's worried about originality with rollcage,buckets etc?

    im getting my mini in about 9 days, when my current car finished on eBay. already know which one im getting. but sadly it has the mpi engine in it, booo. lol. i want the A series in it with a carb. will probably put one in anyway as i hear injections pointless/ hard to tune.

  • ok granted it wasnt a very fair comment.but dont bring my country into this that makes no sense. in new zealand minis are common cars you can pick an absolutely immaculate mini for under 4000NZD (2k usd aprox) i actually own a mini FTR in DIY stages atm. I totally disagree with the statements here, mini engines are pieces of crap, you can spend 2k on one an not even reach 100hp mark.vtec is the way to go im sorry but thats the way i feel

    its an easy way out, the A series engine well tuned can achieve 180 bhp, I own a mini cooper S mk3 bored out to 1380

    if you want to mess around with the jap engines, buy a honda. Im a purist and I am more than pleased with the performance of the BMC A series, as designed by issigonis

  • Simple. I own a mini cooper MK 3 will be on you tube shortly. 1380 motor lightened

    flywheel, weber carb, etc etc etc. I am a fan of all classic minis. I feel, and most other mini fanatics agree with me. MINI IS BRITISH and all minis should be kept in near original condition, tuning the BMC A series engine to its maximum. EASY WAY OUT = putting a honda engine in a mini will of course give you more power, but whats the point??

  • Dear god i hope mine starts up like that. I blew up my b16 and now have a b18c1 with a fully built port/polished b16 head and full msd ignition that i have to put in my del sol.... if it starts as good as this mini i will be so ungodly happy

  • wouldn't be alot, they are about 165hp without a turbo, 12psi ?

    B18c1 makes 170 stock and 300 at the wheels at 8psi...so...

    Very creative setup...I love the IC too.
