Hi mordeth, Do you have to be over 18 for the tour? because I'm 17 (18 in december) and I dont Know the laws on riding scooters in taiwan, I live in the uk and only have a provisional licence which entitals me to ride anything up to 125cc in the uk on 'L plates' so would I be able to ride a scooter in taiwan now or would I have to take another test? Sorry if you've been asked before. If you do need a full licence or need to be 18 I wont be discouraged, I'll just come next year :) Thanks M

Also, talking about not being able to leave dogs outside the hospital, it's because people don't have the respect for animals or the dignity to take time out of their life (even though they have chosen to get an animal) to train them and work with them so it learns manners, commands and loyalty. I think with the welfare, it's more of a mindset, obviously the guy in the video does need some help, what you did is supporting him. But in other countries that do have welfare, you develop moochers after a while, in Taiwan, (you stated there was no welfare system) so you obviously just can't mooch off the government at the moment, so he has come to terms with actually working to provide for himself. In America, he would probably be home all day, waited on hand and foot.
Taiwan only has a population of 23 million and is roughly the same size as England which has a population of about 60 million.
That's why England has more unemployed, it's hard to generate jobs when you don't have much room for industry and such, that's also why we need a welfare system.
It doesn't help that the average wage is much higher in England, so employers can't hire as many people...

I come across homeless people in LA every single day... hell, I used to be homeless. Not for YEARS or anything, but a good amount of time. Hi M13, i just wanted to say please be careful. I always had my dog running around. She loved being free, never had a leash on her when going for walks or anything. Most of the time she was outside roaming around the house and neighborhood(not too far though). I had her for a little over 14 years, very smart, loving and protective. She was old but very energetic and agile. Eventually a pick up truck backed up into her and killed her. Worst pain ive ever felt. Regret giving her that much freedom.

You'd trade away her happiness for extended her life by a couple of years filled with boredom? I don't think so. I think if one day my dogs get run over I won't regret having let them run free.

I live in Denmark lol. I think this is considered the leading country of wealthfare. It does have some backsides though. In total we pay over 60 % of our money in taxes, it's almost like in communist societies these days :D
Taking the level of unemployment now a days into account, it's ridiculous to be against some sort of governmental hand out. Even countries that have done without, have had to implement ome sort of temp solution. Take Spain as one example: usually the family helps out, but atm the unemployment in certain areas is up to @ 30%, and people don't have enough money to help their family anymore.
yeh it is similar to here in Singapore. There is no welfare system, but the handicapped have various organizations that take care of them by providing them with jobs etc. . And there are plenty of jobs around too, so of course no need for any welfare, the only way you are going to starve to death is if you are a bum.
That makes sense. When the government gives handouts it is causing the people to need the government. Hands off governments have been shown time and time again to yield better results. Just look at the American education system. We are worse off than we were before the government turn education into indoctrination.

Welfare is awesome. What if you are going for training for 2 months, you get laid off go on welfare, employment insurance, try to survive, and then go back to work. Without it it would suck. Its a hand out that you paid for in advance, and for the rest of your life.
@UltraEpicLoser there is a thing called job-loss pension(literally) in Taiwan. If you lose your job, the government will help you with 60% of your monthly income each month for a maximum duration of 6 months. Of course there is a maximum amount you can claim and certain restrictions associate with it.
What happens in Taiwan is that the Mafia would cut off a person's arm or leg so they can go out and beg for money and stuff for them. Of course not all.... but I know some stories like that.

That's why England has more unemployed, it's hard to generate jobs when you don't have much room for industry and such, that's also why we need a welfare system.
It doesn't help that the average wage is much higher in England, so employers can't hire as many people...

I come across homeless people in LA every single day... hell, I used to be homeless. Not for YEARS or anything, but a good amount of time. I don't give the addicts money, only ONE addict homeless guy that treated me like his son when I was on the street- he always made sure I got my fix, even if there was only enough for one... I still visit him sometimes.
Your dogs treat you superior because you're white... as crazy as that sounds, I think there's definitely some logic behind that.

Hi M13, i just wanted to say please be careful. I always had my dog running around. She loved being free, never had a leash on her when going for walks or anything. Most of the time she was outside roaming around the house and neighborhood(not too far though). I had her for a little over 14 years, very smart, loving and protective. She was old but very energetic and agile. Eventually a pick up truck backed up into her and killed her. Worst pain ive ever felt. Regret giving her that much freedom.

You'd trade away her happiness for extended her life by a couple of years filled with boredom? I don't think so. I think if one day my dogs get run over I won't regret having let them run free.

@elboricua123 I must say the way you explain how your dog lived 14 years doesn't sound all that bad. Don't get me wrong its bad that she was run over. But 14 years roaming free around the neighborhood and not being run over is pretty good.

I couldn't let my dogs run free in Canada like that. There probably is some law but I would be more worried about people hurting them or decapitating them. Some people go around giving dogs poisoned meat, or breaking into peoples houses putting animals in microwaves. Allot of fucked up people here.

I live in Denmark lol. I think this is considered the leading country of wealthfare. It does have some backsides though. In total we pay over 60 % of our money in taxes, it's almost like in communist societies these days :D

Taking the level of unemployment now a days into account, it's ridiculous to be against some sort of governmental hand out. Even countries that have done without, have had to implement ome sort of temp solution. Take Spain as one example: usually the family helps out, but atm the unemployment in certain areas is up to @ 30%, and people don't have enough money to help their family anymore.

yeh it is similar to here in Singapore. There is no welfare system, but the handicapped have various organizations that take care of them by providing them with jobs etc. . And there are plenty of jobs around too, so of course no need for any welfare, the only way you are going to starve to death is if you are a bum.

That makes sense. When the government gives handouts it is causing the people to need the government. Hands off governments have been shown time and time again to yield better results. Just look at the American education system. We are worse off than we were before the government turn education into indoctrination.

SOME countries in the EU are on the shitter, but the majority of us made it through the economicalcrisis in way better shape than the US, and the country i live in (Denmark) is probably the most social welfare focused of them all, and we did better than the EU as a whole.
Lots of people, mostly americans, have this over simplified understanding of helping their citizens out. You are a prime example.

Welfare is awesome. What if you are going for training for 2 months, you get laid off go on welfare, employment insurance, try to survive, and then go back to work. Without it it would suck. Its a hand out that you paid for in advance, and for the rest of your life.

@UltraEpicLoser there is a thing called job-loss pension(literally) in Taiwan. If you lose your job, the government will help you with 60% of your monthly income each month for a maximum duration of 6 months. Of course there is a maximum amount you can claim and certain restrictions associate with it.
