For mrluistena: I will make sure to listen to Alfredo Kraus in the roles you mention. I spent a lot of time at the old Met in the late 50s and early 60s. One of my favorite tenors was Carlo Bergonzi whom I got a chance to meet and interview in the 1964 when he was appearing at the old Liceo in Barcelona. He was always my favorite Rodolfo until I saw Pavarotti in the role many years later.

I think people who really love opera acknowledge that there are MANY talented performers, each with their own unique strengths .. and weaknesses. To say that there's "only" one singer who can do a part justice, is just unfair, and frankly not realistic.
