I've recently played a PC3x in a musicstore, however, I want the piano's to be just a little different. How are the tweaking options on especially the piano's?
Hi, if you learn the programming, you can change the dynamics, effects, etc, and if you're talking about the touch sensitivity, some people have made their own versions (like on sonikmatter forum). I think the most realistic touch is in the #130 Dark Grand.
@birth1087 I don't know about the Yamaha's, but I sold my Roland RD-700GX after a few weeks. I hated the thin piano sounds, and now I am back with Wurzweil haha :) Test them out and let your ears do the judging. Personally, I believe it is impossible to beat the real thing. I want a real acoustic piano.
I kind of feel bad. I have been faithfully using Kurzweil digital pianos for like 12 years and just recently went out and purchased a Roland RX-700-SX Now I feel like I have betrayed Kurzweil......d'oh. Nice playing by the way :)
Hello Falgor, one question how is too play organ on this keyboard. And is it possible that you just for the organ sounds hook up a other "cheap" keyboard ;-) with a better organ feel ?
Hey man! I must admit you're good player being a self-taught pianist only. I think you should take some true lessons, and become far better soon, cause you got talent :)
Hey, I love yourPC3x videos. Can you share with us how you integrate your PC3x with technology? Like, what audio interface and audio software do you use? is there any specific one for Kurzweil? Once again, awesome videos.
Thanks :). Well, it's quite simple. For audio, I have a Yamaha MG82CX mixer. The PC3x is connected to it with two analog lines (L/R) and my PC is connected with it with two analog lines (the sound card is the m-audio 2496). I have connected the PC3x with the USB-midi cable. For the actual composing I use Reaper, and it works like any other DAW, I guess. I don't think there's any specific software for Kurzweil.
I recorded the video with a camera connected into a tv-tuner card, with line-in audio.
Hey! Thanks for the kind comment. The keys aren't like piano keys and don't react like the real piano, at least not with the piano sounds of the PC3x. I think you can use the PC3x as a controller with some external piano sounds that do react like the real thing. But since the PC3x isn't designed to be just a piano, the keys are not quite like the piano. However, the pianos do sound very good! But if you want to train piano, you could try something else, since this isn't just a piano, but more.
1. It is easy to use, though not super easy and there are easier synths than the PC3. But yes, for most things it is easy, but also very diverse (lots of stuff you can tweak).
2. I have not tried editing a song with PC3. I use a software sequencer. But when it comes to mixing / panning / volume. So selecting instruments, track options and those, it is easy.
I am not sure, but there might be a basic tutorial about the song mode on youtube.
Thanks! I've just played on my own. I once did have this 2 week piano lesson, maybe 12 years ago. I've also had music theory lessons (notes), but I learned to play the piano on my own. I've been playing during 12 years (first with a keyboard (and old yamaha), then with a keyboard with velocity sensitivity (PSR640) and then with the Kurzweil PC3x).
It's very easy to sound good with these pianos. They react so well, because they've been programmed so well.
I own pc2. Compared to this I think on pc3 they have put more variety as for the acustic pianos, but the sample remains the same, always a bit "close" and annoying on the middle keys.
It is a pity because for the rest pc3 is a great machine. It is time to renew the piano sample by a totally new timbre.
Well, no matter what some may say, I really think that the PC3 doesn't react very naturally when you're trying to play solo piano. Impossible to play pp or ff. It just doesn't react like a real piano or grand, and I have played several pianos and grands.
I agree with you. This is the conclusion of this conversation. I mean it's possible to make a user sound which has more levels (dynamics), which someone did. I think there are mezzo piano, mezzo forte and fortissimo. Good for band, not so good for solo. But hey, some people don't even have clothes. We should be more than happy.
Nevertheless it sounds really good, in fact it's hard to play bad with these pianos. I just doesn't react the way I feel a real piano react, that's all.
Nice man! The sounds are great, and so is your playing! I have a Korg m3 myself, and even though it's a good synth, the piano sounds are definetly lacking :P
on tossa kyllä tosi tyylikkäät saundit o.o! Harmittaa vähän ku tuli musiikkikaupasta SP2X PC3X:n sijaan mukaan, mut se ois kyllä tehny tosi ikävän loven opiskelijan lompakkoon >:D. Kyllä varmasti tulee vielä ostettua tuollainen all-in-one workstation jos sitten vähän vanhempana ois rahaa ;). Pystyn jotenkin korvaa VAST:n samplerin kanssa, mut ois tuo PC3X tosi hieno :D. Soitat hyvin ;)!
yeah, dont listen that guy, we really appreciate your videos, they help us to make a better choise of what we could buy in the future or right now... I see this kind of videos all the time.

@IllogicalPask Yeah, as far as I know. You can make sure at kurzweil website. The only real difference is the keys and the humber of them.

Thanks for these videos - I have seen them all!
Two questions though; since I am new to snths I do not want to get frustrated with compilcated menus / definitions, etc:
1. Is this keaboard easy to use?
2. How eas is it to sequence traks, etc to make / edit a song?

Yes, this is also a minus on pc2, where there are maybe three dynamics levels only, not more.
I think the weak points on piano sounds in kurzweil pc series are:
1. the sound on middle octaves (I definetely don't like it)
2. the dynamic levels (pp, p, f, ff, etc.=volume of the timbre depending on the touch)
3. the fact that the the sound is a bit closed, more dark, not an open sound.

Yes, buddy, right, we must be content, it is just to comment and exchange one's opinions. The perfect instrument doesn't exist.
