  • Not bad, but the outside ski in this example is pushed way too wide ! check out Klaus Mair...carving weapon !

  • this is a terrible example of carving.

  • its bloody easy to do this type of carving

  • Inclination without angulation is very poor technique. Loose your skis grip (edge) and you're on your a**. Take it from a pro (isia member). Be safe take some lessons from a certified instructor.

  • "To begin, we will do some exercises."

  • learning how to ski from youtube is like learning how to have sex from watching porn....

  • @qwerty1274 you obviously watch both. Enjoy :-) !

  • @qwerty1274 not if you already know what you're doing for the most part.

  • @qwerty1274

    You tried?

  • @qwerty1274

Neither of them worked for you?

  • @qwerty1274 Id like to be able to show this video to my grandchildren, but not with comments like this.

  • This tutorial isn't the best. Extremecarving technique is more than just skiing without poles and touching the snow. The most important part is rotating your shoulders into the turn. The easiest way to practice this is trying to touch the snow with your both hands. The highest level of extremecarving is when you touch the snow with your jacket. And THAT is why it's called EXTREMEcarving. Because you're leaning to the max. This video shows real extremecarving: watch?v=GRCltg8CPwQ

  • Now let's make the terrain steeper and add ungroomed elements like bumps, ruts and swales that require varying turn shapes to negotiate around and over. There will be many transitions back and forth across the fall line, and small radius turns mixed in. I'm thinking that I do not want to be using such "extreme" banking, but instead maintaining a plumb (vertical) torso, bending at my hips, with my shoulders level across the slope and my chest aimed down the fall line - quiet upper body...

  • Fair enough, I will agree that this "extreme" banking might be a fun balance exercise and works just fine for the relatively flat terrain and medium radius turns being demonstrated.

  • When used correctly the inclination can generate more power & bleed less speed. It is used a lot in racing for a reason. Just because the style isn't taught to free skiers does not mean it is wrong. He didn't build that resume by skiing with a flawed technique.

Try thinking it through instead of assuming what was taught to you is the only effective way to ski.

  • Interesting video, but there is a bad habit being ingrained, which we call "banking" or "leaning". There should be a bending at the hips which keeps the torso plumb (vertical) and levels the shoulders out with the terrain. This will allow smoother transitions and better, more fluid skiing/carving. This reminds me of the banking and snow touching we see in snowboarders...

  • yap. really bad.

extreme carving means getting your elbow on the snow. this vid is for wannabes :D

  • bs (too short says utube)

    bull shit then

  • Extreme carving - touching the snow. Really not so difficult;)

  • Where do u put ur weight?

Only the outer ski or both

U say in the vid to keep balanced on both edges. What does this mean exatly.

  • You need weight on both skis. You'll probably end up with more weight on the outer ski but the inner ski is where you gain control. So you need a balance between the two. Also, in this video the person is leaning with their entire body. I would recommend keeping your shoulders square with the snow so that you have an "upper body quiet" form.

  • I think I know what u mean

    Thx for the reply

    cu on the slope ;)
