  • You have a fantastic story-telling kind of voice. And you tell interesting things with it! :)

    Keep it up - subbed.

  • one of your better videos imo. glad i found you in the youtube world

  • I really liked this video.

  • I have to say you are the most profound person I have ever heard on youtube, or for that matter anywhere! Keep up the good work.

  • I always love your videos.

  • Fantastic Video!

  • Ah, I love this. It`s a sound and reasonable message.

  • wow. that was amazing.

  • 5/5 and faved

  • This was quite friggin awesome. I am glad I watched this.

  • Very interesting video.

I just think the first steps are a little more complex. Before men adopted monotheistic beliefs, like in your example, they usually worshipped nature through spirits of many sorts. Later, more or less large numbers of deities replaced those spirits. It was only much later that the idea of ONE god made its appearance, by way of the egyptians. (worship of one god over the others by the pharao).

  • "I just think the first steps are a little more complex"

Agreed but it boils down to people believing gods/spirits did everything, usually the result of dreams/visions, then someone of higher intelect and low scruples taking advantage of them for their beliefs.

  • Hm, I never thought of dreams as being responsible for these beliefs. I pictured them to be the result of a failure to find coherent explanations for natural phenomenon. Like:

Lightning -> Cant explain -> Lightning casting spirit/god/pixie.

  • "I never thought of dreams as being responsible."

    The dreams weren't responsible.

It was early man's lack of understanding of what dreams were.

And don't get me wrong. I'm not saying every belief system transitioned from questions the same way.

But the aboriginal and Native American beliefs did.

At least to the point of blaming spirits/gods for everything.

Native American legends even suggest a god in human form visiting them once.

    Norse maybe?

  • Ah, I see. Well, Im not very familiar with these cultures, more so with the european/middle-eastern cultures.

Anyway, your video was really good, keep them coming :)

  • Its still what you said though, even if they derived their explainations from their dreams.

Lightning -> Can't explain -> subconscious dreams up a way to explain it -> Lightning casting spirit/god/pixie.

  • Beutiful as always corthew.

Is the story of the man who said he was god made up or were did it come from? Would you illumante me?

On of the best Videos yet

  • Its loosely based on Egyptian and Judeo-Christian history and myths.

    This is the order:

    1. Questioning man.

    2. Dreams perceived as reality. (Happens still today).

    3. Con-man takes advantage of their uncertainty.

    4. Gets them to kill off anyone who might tell on him. (Moses did this to the tribe of Aaron).

    5. Realizes the people are too smart to believe in a human God. (The Egyptians had already dealt with this before Moses)

    see next message

  • Thank you can not wait for it.

The Dream thing is still used today in psychology but to a diffrent purpose

    Well thanks for the light

  • next message:)

    6. To get the people to keep following him, they are told God will punish bad and reward good. (Moses laws)

    7. People eventually realize God punishes good and rewards bad. (Ecclesiastes and other writings from the time).

    8. Heaven and hell myth created by Hebrew clergy to keep people in line.

    9. The rest probably needs no reference.

  • Yes very well done but you can't tell me that prehistoric women looked as good as the clip at 0:35. If they did then man would never have had enough time to contemplate life's mysteries let alone invent any gods.

  • Very well done.

    Good points.

  • The illusion of being better in some fashion seems to be the theme of many tragedies...

  • 5 stars well deserved

  • great vid. "Pushing God back" further and further.

  • + 5, very good

  • You're implying that if we ask the question again, we'll get a different result?

  • I'm suggesting that we are a bit wiser now than then and more knowledgeable of our universe...Even the theists.

If modern theists went back to the first question without all of the dogma and preconceptions that have been handed down from those earlier times, I think they'd see the question more clearly and realize that just because they dream it, doesn't mean they know it.

  • 0:14, is that Ron Pearlman?

  • Yes. That image is from Quest for Fire.

I also used images from 10,000 BC and The 300.

  • Well done!!

  • well done as always Corthew
