u hav to hav 3.0 firmware or either 3.0.1 pwned (meaning jailbroken by redsn0w or pwnage tool)

and then u can safely update to 3.1.1 widout updating ur baseband firmware

mwaah i just bought in september an ipod touch 8 Gb version 3.1.1 so i have that version already but i dont know if i have 3 gen or 2 gen 3.1.1

if you restore check the firmware you downloaded it would be iPod3,1...u dont hav to download the whole thing, just check if you get iPod3,1 in the downloads section

also the headphones have a remote located below the right earbud.
