I had the distinct pleasure of spending over 2 hours with Atomic Ed. We arrived at his shop when he was closing the doors, we informed him we were from Kansas and were extremely interested in his shop. He quickly opened the doors back up and spent a long time with us. The Black Hole is absolutely amazing, I strongly suggest you visit him.

My father said he wasn't always like this, I think he's found a market in anti-nuclear advocates, and is just tapping them for a source of money. Note, he's quite a business man, he owns land in and around the town. I think "Ed's Food Mart" was his, now there is some yoga place there.

The rich people in Los Alamos are either team leaders or administrative staff. I'm wiling to bet after all the big hoopla made about the "missing disks", the administrative staff doubled, I wonder how many we really need, what the hell do they do all day? Make bureaucracy to keep scientists from doing quality work? So they can keep from poking their eyes out, or to keep from getting their fingers cut on iodine laced glass? It's a joke..

Another thing.. When the atomic bomb was dropped, I've been told that people here were really very happy because it meant the end of the war, one which makes the war in Iraq look like a flesh wound.

BTW, the nuclear warheads were made in Sandia, not Los Alamos, Los Alamos is just where the first ones were made. And some people think Los Alamos looks like White Sands, which is about 300-400 miles south.

BTW, be careful where you step, the canyons between the town and the lab were used for explosive testing by the military in the early days, so they are not safe.. However, there was a guy called the "caveman", a really nice guy, who lived near the town on government property.. So maybe its all a ploy to keep people from walking around in the forests near the lab..

But I dare any radical protestor to get to this place. It's not that important, but I've heard it is a "one shot" reactor.. That is, you fire it, then collect data and go away into your lab and study the results for months. Versus a nuclear plant which fires many times per day.. This is the closest thing Los Alamos has to a nuclear bomb.. Harmless.. But still the people come rushing in to protest, and LA people laugh.

It used to be a Piggly Wiggly food store.. And there is a A-frame church building across the lot with some crutches and missile shells cut like two egg shells. I'd say he's more a anti-war artist, but as one said here, I don't think he's a scientist either. I also am not sure he's old enough to have worked on the bomb. But I haven't spent much time around him. My brother paid a visit and found some pretty good oscilloscopes there, but said walking around was unsafe with all the heavy equipment.

Down the street from the lutheran church, behind the diamond drive church, on the street parallel to arizona, just south of the old fire station.. Nowhere near the lab, which is about 3 miles down diamond which is directly south of the black hole.

Thinking of this in an historical reference though, I suppose MOST progressive thinkers were labeled crazy until many years after their deaths. It's sad we as humans have the same mentality hundreds of years later, but hopefully history will shed a better light on him as years progress.
