I think coming BACK to your country from another is the hard part. They've got forms and stuff for the things you have with you from the other country etc.

It'll be less painful going to Canada from America, because you only have to go through Canadian customs, but from Canada to America you have to go through American customs :P

subway is $9 for a day and taxi rates average $2.80 every mile plus the user fee so if he went 2 and a half miles taxi is same price as subway so I guess his reasoning isnt too far off.

I guess it depends on how far he was going it probably would have been even cheaper to walk. the subway can actually be pretty expensive but if your not going too far taxi can actually be a cheaper method of travel. so it depends a lot on destination.
