May Britt was a great actress and extremely beautiful. She could have had a huge career, but thought her family was more important than a career. I like that.
The music that Marlon Brando is listening to is " Traüme " ( in an orchestral version), one of the Richard Wagner's Wiesendonk Lieder ( at 3'19'' and after). Sotty for my bad english.
I'm reading the book for the second time, and to be honest, this is not like I supposed the scene is like. I can see why Irwin was not so happy bout it.
In the book, he is horny as hell, turned on immediately by her, and she is a drug addict, has a dozen of lovers, I did not imagine her as a quiet person, she is a heavy drinker as him and their lifes are fast. The scene that would fit to modern life, not as this, dry quiet ambient.
@pjubagoni You have to remember the era. Hollywood films were very restricted in what they were allowed to show, they even had guidelines for stage kisses. The indiscretions are portrayed symbolically, in the low cut black dress, the cabinet of liquor, the black lace. I think drug addiction might have been a little heavy for Hollywood in the 50's.
A re-make would probably follow the book far closer, but I can't imagine this film, or this scene, without Brando. <3
I love this actress.Saw this first movie with Brando. She has timeless beauty. I ordered this dvd just to have this in my collection. There is a movie with Brando as a tank commander.I need to find that one.Don't know the name though may be some expert can help me.
You have to read the original novel by Irwin Shaw. The character is an insane sex fiend and whore.
The scenes with Maximillian Schell's Killer Kaptain Hartenburg should be taught at West Point. Christian spends the whole of the story trying to live up to his example. Even as he's going bat-shit crazy.
Stephan Kanfer believes he was always trying to give an impressionistic version of an accent. I suppose what that really means is how Marlon thought the accent sounded to him and by implication, most Americans.

Still, glad that there is a movie out there.

I've never noticed what looks like a giant German cockroach next to the door. Sometimes it appears to be moving!

Sorry, but there's no movie with Brando as a tank commander. Doesn't exist. You probably confused him with other actor.
witek205 2 years ago
Right. Marlon couldn't fit into a tank!

@achtungdryja1981 Maybe you think to the film " Sahara " with Humphrey Bogart: he is a tank commander in Libya during WWII.

@achtungdryja1981 May Britt was married once to Sammy Davis Jnr. They both received hate mail during the 1960s. Brando was the finest actor ever.

Marlon is actually drunk here. He didn't believe that you can fake being drunk on film. Your eyes never look drunk.
