Weight does not make a true artist.... just look at Nancy Wilson, who still sounds sooo very amazing.... or KD Lang, who has some real pipes!!! ... it should not even be an issue.... If this were a guy, would we still be having the same conversation? NO!!! Tori Rocks!!!
Weight does not make a true artist.... just Nancy Wilson, who still sounds to amazing.... or KD Lang... it should not even be an issue.... If this were a guy, would we still be having the same conversation? Tori Rocks!!!
this is the first tori amos song i ever heard back in 98' i actually bought this album and im a guy. who isnt gay. i see how the parallels between her and tools' music cross since her and maynard are such good friends. the beginning sounds just like a tool song
I know Tori's said "the ice cream assassin" refers to God but does anyone have any theory as to how she arrived at that particular term? What could ice cream possibly signify in relation to God?
I adore the song by the way and I adore Tori, love the lyrics as well but the part mentioned above was always somewhat of a mystery for me.
@derailedbicycle In short, Ice cream assassin was a nick name the press gave to a group of child kiddnappers in the 90s who used to lure children to them using ice cream vans. This song is about Tori's miscarriage, so she's calling God an ice cream assassin because he took her baby away.
It's hard for me to hear this song without the harmony in the chorus. Still amazing, but that harmony is genius. I just sing it myself when watching live performances.
i wish she would still be able to sing like this; i blame the plastic surgeries, for some reason her voice has become a little annoying; just my opinion
@allthingsfeist Thank you. I really needed that. Its just that with the pressure of finishing school and the pressure that everyone else at school is putting on me that I sometimes feel like I can't go on. I really felt like I was at my end last night.
Today, I tried to commit suicide and I was unsucessful. The reason is because of school pressure and its my senior year and the pressure is really coming down on me hard. This song is therapeutic. Thank you Tori.
Wow great performance - as usual. I can't believe someone is having a go at her because of her weight????? What the fuck??????! She isnt some skinny talentless whore bitch that has only got her looks to make her famous! SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU CUNT whoever it was that said that.
Just perfect! When she started singing, I thought it was the studio track playing, hehe! She sounds so amazing live! She has one of the best and most beautiful voices ever! Unfortunately, the official video for ''Spark'' is not on YouTube, but I have it on a DVD! :)
I´m a 42 year old guy from the south of México near Cancún and, I have listened to Tori since she released Little Earthquakes a long time ago, sometimes I listen to her for days at a time, maybe is her passion when she sings, maybe is her sadness but her music always relaxes me and relieves me. I don´t know anyone here who´s ever heard of her but myself I think she´s a true talented artist that trascends borders and genders and that opens up her feelings to her listeners.

You are calling me an idiot and you don't even know me , anyway I did not realize she was pregnant and to me she really just looked a bit hooked on Twinkies.
The raw emotion that just perspirates from the uneasy harmony and the honest lyrics is enough to make this a song that stands out. And Tori's voice is unique. This is one of my favorite songs.
Looks (And sounds) like it was an amazing one - you're lucky!
When was it exactly?
I'm Irish, but I'm hoping to see her in San Diego this summer, because I'll be over in that part of the world. I'll have to be really on the ball when those tickets go on sale, because I am desperate to get to this gig!
This was May of 1998. Day after her last Club tour show in losangeles. It was in the parking lot of The Palace. It was also free. We were there at 1 am waiting LOL
I suppose there will be other legendary artists who will emerge over the coming years, but there's a ticking clock on the ones we already have. I really need to address the fact that Neil Young came here and I did not go to see him for some reason...

I agree this is a superb song and performance!!! As she switches between the keyboard and piano, change of voice; you can feel the fascinating tension, flipping between cynicism and hope, rising to a crescendo and then ending with a realization that it will never go away despite the appearance of triumph, seconds before. Lot of emotions. The whole song makes my spine tingle and haunts my brain for a while.
My favourite Tori Amos song. Great performance. The recording technicians could have given her piano playing more emphisis, though. By the way, that's a Bosendorfer; as good as it gets.
Just close your eyes and listen. She thinks on a level most of us only dream of and watching her perform live is like seeing straight into another person's soul. Her lips and hips are are almost distractions. (however pleasant :)
are you kidding??? she is absolutely perfect.. she was MUCH thinner when she was younger.. check out videos from before her Little Earthquakes album release.. I've been a Tori fan since 1991. Tori was and always will be beautiful....
oh and to add.. this song reflects her feelings about her miscarriages... why should she portray her happiness.. "shes convinced she could hold back a glacier, but she couldn't keep baby alive, doubting theres a woman in there somewhere" AND in here video.. the name Skeeter carved in the tree is what she called her unborn child. I totally relate.. I've miscarried and I know what it is to loose a child and how less of a woman I felt. Give this incredible woman a break, she is sharing her soul.
agree 100%. I used to look at Tori Amos and think "Yay! A famous woman musician who's not insanely thin" & that part of her image to me was almost as inspiring as her music. I'm sad I can't say it anymore:(
Fat? You're crazy... this is probably the reason why she NOW looks like one of these African children you see on the news. I can get really angry at these remarkes. WHO CARES how fat (or NOT) she looks like... AS LONG AS SHE KEEPS PERFORMING LIKE SHE DOES, I LOOOOVE HER ANYWAY! (Sorry: just quit smokin' so am bit on the defensive side... grrr)
Her weight had been fluctuating because she was pregnant, actually. Of course, she'd miscarried, because it wasn't till a few years later that she gave birth to her daughter.

But she couldn't keep baby alive.. But now she have little Tash' :-) I think - when she made this song - she had a feeling that she wasn't able to get pregnant, but now she have her lovely daughter :)
i think that's what she means by "finding her spark".. or something.. it definitely helped me through when i miscarried (a year after this was released). i miss my daughter 10 years later. especially the "she's convinced she could hold back a glacier, but she couldn't keep baby alive" line
awesome performance but i miss the background singing

It's pretty callous of someone to make weight comments when she was struggling with her weight after miscarriages.
As other people have correctly observed, it doesn't matter what the f*ck a true artist like her ever weighs anyway. It's so massively irrelevant.
