  • Do you lose much heat to the ground? Only reason I ask is that the pipes don't look very deeply buried or wrapped with much insulation! Also is there much heat transfer between the pipes in the big"o" or does it matter much? Thanks.

  • what size oil tank was that seen vid over 30 times tell every one great work thanx lee

  • ah, this is not a 'furnace'..but a boiler...what are you heating air or water..?? Where is the refractory lining to keep the creosote from condensing on the cold metal...??? Learn to do it right....!

  • @novokarpati

No need for a lining. creosote burns away from inside burn chamber. once a season, shut the unit down and scrape what ever is on the inside. it's actually very effecient.

  • Speechless!!!

  • Great video, music, welding and humor. Very profesional job with all crafts. Thanks !!

  • don't use a cast iron pump it won't last in an open air system like that!

  • Brilliant project! How much welding wire did you use, and how much gas? Also do those 2 heat exchangers really transfer all the energy produced by that furnace?

  • @robertsulley Actually, one heat exchanger would be enough. we added 2 for more effeciency

  • Great job! You guys did real good with the welding and soldering. I know master plumbers who cannot solder like you guys.

  • how do you keep it from rusting out in the water chamber?

  • @chasehav2014 add rust inhibiter to water

  • Tossing that flame into a gasoline "vapor" filled burn chamber shows how we continue a lifetime of learning, provided we survive our miscalculations. Good to see you guys had the balls to include that part as well. Great vid, hate the music however.

  • do you have to have a basement to use this set up

  • @1kenziesmom Basement is not needed. all you need is oil, gas or forced hot air system, and you can fit one of these to work. Doesn't work with electric baseboard heat.

  • How long did you figure for your ROI? return on investment?

  • WOW!! Now that is a project! This guy is my hero. Good job. I put PEX throughout my whole house, replaced all the old copper plumbing with manifold system. LOVE IT! I have oil boiler now, and would love to have something like this. forget utility, oil etc... taxes and overpricing.

  • killer stove man..very cool..oh and unless dude lives at Yellowstone Geothermal still costs money to run the heat pump.peace.

  • awsome video man!!! thanks

  • genius, i love it

  • KABOOOM! Next time stand at the side of it so you and the kids don't get killed by flying debris. oh.. yer not gonna do that again? I wouldn't either after that explosion.. yeah it wasn't just a big ole whoosh now was it? How long did you shake after that? lol.

  • @GunClingingPalin The explosion was actually pretty funny. wish I wouldn't have lowered the camera.

  • @gwana8919 Do it again...this time toss shut latch real quick. XD

  • @gwana8919 Just curious, How much wood does it burn a week? Great looking stove for sure.

  • What is the benefit of doing this, vs a geothermal type unit? the only downfall with geo is that the water is only going to be 60 some degrees constantly vs the hot water from this furnace. But with geo, you don't have to add wood.

  • @chevysb400

This system works great for heating your domestic hot water as well. I'm not aware of geothermal being able to do that.

  • we made one a little bigger a few years back she still heats up good, only the inside is a little beat up cause we ran it with low water and the 3/4'' steel worped. a little welding and a valve in the basment to fill up the system did the job. the only thing i can tell you is make sure it's alwas full of water if you fire it up.

  • let's see the chimney, any smoke coming out...., and NO you do NOT burn any trash that contains plastics, rubber, etc...they create dioxins and are very toxic to you and your neighbors. Another thing, is the burn chamber refractory brick lined..??

  • where did you get the blower with the draft control? (electronic flapper) or something you fabbed up? im currently building one similar out of a fuel oil tank and a 24" sch 40 pipe all the way through it for fire "box"

  • great job guys..my husband loved this!

  • wow next time use disel not gas wow

  • 3.13 real man right there, welding with no helmet lmao.

  • Great motivation, and you guys are simply amazing! not to mention great builders.!!

  • Awesome Job Guys!

  • Amazing fab work u guys, i've made a living out of making my own stuff, to include my

own wood furnace, and i am impressed. My furnace only heats 1500 sq ft, you said yours will heat 5000 sq ft, how many gallons does it hold? How far from your house is it? How much wood does it consume? And really only $3000? Scrap laying around? Do you have plans (I'll buy them)? I have many questions, please contact me!

  • Not only are you guys great craftsmen but you do great film production as well. I jealous, I used to be able to design and build most my own stuff but, now I'm crippled it's mostly just design. You motivate me to try harder on my reabilitation. You guys need to have your own reality tv show, I'd watch. Again, thanks for the motivation.

  • By "heating the house for free," you mean you burn garbage? Dry, flammable scraps of things like wood or paper?

  • @doormaker2 You could burn trash and paper in it, but wood is the best source. And when using the term "free", we get our wood for free from all kinds of sources.

  • Fuck yeah, awesome build!! You guys inspire me!

  • Excellent

  • Good bit of fabricating and welding

    THIS IS reality TV!

    Five stars

  • so where can I get one?

    Raccoon

  • amazing!

  • This was an AWESOME video. Its hard to understand the design of the water pipes though. How do they connect at each end after going through the tank?

I'm going to build one of these this summer. I'm tired of paying hydro $700/month to heat a 2000 square foot house.

  • This is some really fine work. You guys have some obvious welding and grinding skills. I want to make one for myself one day.

  • Nice work! this was my first winter with my homemade boiler, All the blood and grinding dust is worth it when the LP truck drives by while i sit in my 75 degree house. excellent video
