yea the vmax isn't the fastest bike these days but the sound of them make up for it. I've never had a bike that sounds like a small block V8 other than the vmax
though their top speed isn't very spectacular for the power output....they still excell in 0-60 times, and considering no local roads ever even pass 50....I'd say that a low top speed is fine by me! lol, funny you say it's the only bike that sounds like a small block v8...cause even the boss hoss zz4, which ACTUALLY HAS a small block 350 ls1 v8, don't even sound as good as these, lol! These are truly the perfect bikes in my opinion...cruiser styling with sportbike performance........"Perfection"
to me these bikes are all about the sound.. the sound makes me want one lol wayyyy better sounding than a harley which is just a tractor with a bit of chrome
only harley comes close to beating a V-max is a Buell with extensive mods...at three times the cost and three times the ongoing maintenece!! I know cause i been there...
The shaft drive has little lash and when launching on asphalt the stress of the horsepower is transmitted back the the cases/angles drive from the tranny to the driveshaft. The cases will eventually crack after enough launches. I remember about 20 years ago there was a kid in an XS1100 Yamaha who fitted a chain drive in place of the drive-shaft......he went on to rule the fuel class after working out other bugs.
yea they still make them. I think they changed the look of them for next year. They look kinda neat. You could buy a new on for around 12k if I remember right.
You need to get rid of that chick muffler. Use the competion baffle. That baffle does not do your motor work any justice. I've had one in for 8 years now and have never been pulled over for loud pipes.
Call LCR Performance in Rochester N.Y. His name is Larry. He knows vmaxes better than anyone.(585)-458-8185 He can easily get you the right baffle. I guarantee he will not dissappoint. He does chain drives and all sorts of goodies for the vmax. Tell him Pearl referred you. Let me know how you make out. Happy Riding, Peace Out!
my uncle just bought a vmax and he was wondering where did u get your back seat from?

@MrDavid3224 not sure man it was on there when I bought the bike.

@MrDavid3224 The back seat is standard, and the sissy bar is an optional extra. Can still be bought from some dealers, but also available on ebay.

Shaft drive on the drag strip is death........try it!
irondragsportster 4 years ago
why is that?

The shaft drive has little lash and when launching on asphalt the stress of the horsepower is transmitted back the the cases/angles drive from the tranny to the driveshaft. Because the 145 stock horse power of the Vmax, only about 115 of it accually get to the rear tire, on the Vmax's shaft drive setup.
dcpvmax 4 years ago
only 115 hp! that sucks...lol
RDWARRYR442 4 years ago
not really considering the weight the engine has to pull... 90 hp in a compact car can provide 115 mph 1 hp in a nitro r/c car can provide 70mph
