    Music is Great.

  • love this piece. love it. those of you who agree w/ me should check out jascha heifetz's transcription for this piece on the violin. great stuff.

  • @IsaacH1273 thanks for the rec, it's a good find and i gotta try it out on my violin now :)

  • I was in this opera on 2 different occasions. If you don't know the full story, please take time to research and discontinue spreading things that are not true.

  • @ aseretkavon. You have the story just about completely wrong. CLARA's husband was JAKE, not CROWN. Yes she did sing Summertime in the beginning of the opera to her baby. But BESS also sings Summertime in the second act after CLARA and JAKE are killed in the hurricane. CROWN is BESS's man who has to flee because he kills ROBINNS thus how she hooks up with PORGY who takes her in.

SPORTIN LIFE is the town's "pusher " who ends up running off with BESS only because of her addiction to "happy dust".

  • WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW Clap, Clap, Clap :)))))

  • I love it! One of my favorites!

  • GOOD SINGING!

  • Cedric Cannon did a good work in this "It ain't necessarily so". But I'd rather John W. Bubbles as Sportin' Life. Porgy and Bess, I like it!

  • this is good also... and nice acting with it.

  • Comments 10 MONTHS ago, lol...

This is my personal favourite (and homepage rofl).

    Wonderful singing!!!!

  • This takes me back to my college days.

  • Eh, he's not too good as sportin' life, he's a good singer, but his voice is to low, he's a better Porgy

  • Anne W. Brown, Gershwins first Bess died today friday 13th of march at the age of 96. She died in here home in Norway.

She got one doughter, Paula Schjelderup. She was born in Boltimore 9th of August 1912.

Anne Brown, settle down in Oslo in 1948, where she married ski jumper Thorleif Scheldrup, and became a norwegian citizen

  • this looks like lehman college concert hall

  • A first class vocal performer and orchestra. This is as good as any rendition by William Warfield or Paul Robeson.

  • LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL, lol.

  • woo o like it

  • (shakes head)

    watever.

God doesnt need their approval to exist and act upon those who DO believe.

  • It's called context. Please educate yourself.

Look up "Porgy and Bess" on Wikipedia. That is this song's context.

  • (oops, previous comment was to be directed at seventoheaven only)

  • The point of the song is NOT to bash God. The point of this song is to show that the soloist singing, Sportin' Life, is a very different character from Porgy, which they are the foils of each other, and if you were to see the full opera, you'd find out that Bess has to choose between Sportin' Life and Porgy in the end.

  • mhhh.. i though bess falls in love with crown, u seem to have more knowledge about that opera, so who the hell was crown then?

  • @oldwarcraftgamer I'm not 100% sure because I don't remember fully, (this was a year ago since I last saw it) but I think Crown is Clara's husband. (Clara, much unlike what everyone seems to think, is ACTUALLY the person who sings Summertime at the beginning) Most people think that Bess sings Summertime and has the baby, but that's actually Clara. Sportin' Life is the 'fling' love interest of the love interest (Bess) of the main character (Porgy). Crown's not really in a love triangle...

  • @oldwarcraftgamer

Bess lived together with Crown for five years, but was not married to him.

  • super

  • merci à toi Saxcanc

  • does someone knows the name of this wonderfull singer ?

  • pas test, évaluation! Désolé

  • Bonjour musicalsandtsuff,

Si je puis me permettre, voici la correction :

    Patcauch,

    Patcauch

  • Beautiful performance, but the dialect could have been practiced to sound a lil more natural...other than that...BEAUTIFUL!

  • This is great!!!!!!! FANTASTIC JOB!

  • This is great!

  • Wow, this guy has a powerful voice and looks very comfortable up there. Love the song, as does the rest of the Atheist community.

  • its sarcasim..

  • its sarcasim

  • its sarcasim

  • The song meaning is meant to be interpreted by the listener. That is the best part about music my friend.

  • No it isn't. If you knew anything about Gershwin you would know he was an atheist/agnostic in religious affairs.

  • That's beside the point. All of the words of this song have to be understood in the context of the character (Sportin' Life) that sings them. It is artistically childish to interpret them verbatim as the expressed weltbild of Ira Gershwin.

  • I believe a lot of the book and lyrics were also the work of Dubose Heyward.

  • cool

  • amazing.1

  • Bravo Big Brotha! That's awesome!

  • Thanks Barrone!

  • He's terrifically excellent!!!

  • i have to sing this one on our concert xD

  • He's really good!

  • great job
