Good performance....the last two movements Rattle kept the orchestra a bit to "under wraps"....this is great....and he used 6 harps.

Ja, das gibt es: ab 17:15 Uhr live in der ARD. Fast zeitgleich - ab 17:30 Uhr - gibt es im ZDF eine Zusammenstellung von Höhepunkten der Silvesterkonzerte der letzten 30 Jahre.

Live gibt es den 2. Akt aus dem "Nussknacker" und Rachmaninows Zweites Klavierkonzert mit Lang Lang. Im ZDF soll Karajan mit Bach und Anne-Sophie Mutter sowie Tschaikowsky und Kissin dabei sein.

Note the "obligato" piston cornet part that is being played. Not in the original score, Berlioz added it later as the A cornet became an important solo instrument. Bravo Tamas!

This is an amazing piece of music with an interesting story. I love watching Simon conduct - better than just listening to the recording. The orchestra moves with him - watch it and it's true - I've seen orchestras where the players just sit like statues and the music is stiff but when Mr Rattle conducts, the orchestra moves with him and it's more 'alive'. When will Simon come and guest conduct the Sydney Symphony? I'll be there.

I am not really familiar with Sibelius, so taking a wild guess on his 5th symphony or the Finlandia, but maybe someone else knows better and enlightens us :-)
