  • My mum is friends with him :) He gave me a box with his initials on which happen to my initials too and a Stephan King book. So cool. :D

  • he looks great dressed in black btw awesome cover :)

  • I was excited to listen to this, only for a stupid youtube ad to disrupt.

  • almost 30 years on this song still sends shivers down my spine.

  • Midge is one of the best musicians to ever grace our ears !!

  • I've been a fan of Midge Ure since my dance hall days in Glasgow in the early 70s. He was guitarist for the house band, Salvation, which played a killer cover of Steely Dan's 'Reelin In The Years'. The rest is history, but believe me, he started at a high level and just climbed further.

  • midge is a ledgend

  • Wow, I remember when quartet was released shortly after this. Has it really been that long?

  • Listened to this loads of times...Bring back 1982!

  • Forgot he covered this song, still a classic.

  • midge, i salute you...

  • Love this track always been one of my favs ,always brings back memories, good and bad

  • One of my fave cover versions ever. So great...

  • Not heard this for years, still as good though, CLASSIC

  • The chair looks like a Frank Lloyd Wright designed chair.

  • Am I really so old?

  • Now that's what I call a minimalist video!!!

  • a truly great man.

  • a truly great man, a human for the human cause. d tracey in canada +++

  • i love this song and the visual presentation too. i also love the artwork that catilana posted. BRAVA!!!

  • Why this man never got the recognition he so deserved for band aid and the likes rather than that moaning gimp Geldof is a travesty,Midge has more talent in his little finger than most of the so called stars of today.. This version, while paying homage to the original is the better of the two given the haunting musical score and the fact that Midge played all the instruments himself is just, well,so amazing!

  • Please listen to the composer's version. Tom Rush. Scott Walker is the tops. Midge does a great job but why did he try to emulate the Walker version ???

When listening, and watching, the Scott Walker original recorded outing - not the TV clip - the backing vocal is a girl ( Suzanne Donaldson) from New Zealand. How's that for trivia ???????

  • mide ure...classic artist....never got the recognition for band aid (do they know its christmas) but HE did more work than geldof or any of the others and to this day still can sing a fuckin'great song

  • Is Midge playing guitar on this song? Keyboards?

Amazing performance, I love that man's voice.

  • @harrietcow Yes, he plays guitar, keyboards and drums - in fact he plays ALL the instruments on this, produces it and sings it - how cool is that? I'd like to see some of today's so-called pop stars emulate that, and come up with something as amazing as this. A cover version too, which, in my opinion, is superior toeven the original! :-)

  • Great to see this video for the first time ever - fantastic sound/pic quality too. It's the sign of a talented artiste (as Midge so obviously is) when they can sing, produce and play ALL the instruments on a song... as he demonstrates so well here. And - if you have to do a cover version, make it better than the original... enough said :-)

  • Midge Ure = God. One of my faves from this under-rated genius. Thanks for sharing!

  • June 1982,just left school, doesn't get much better than that does it? Other songs? Happy Talk Captain Sensible,Queen Los Palabras D'Amour,ABC Look of Love,I Won't let you down,Roxy Music Avalon e.t.c.

  • @GBPaddling Those were the days when singers had real talent, sang with passion and the songs had meaning. Singers nowadays think making a glossy video and warbling like a castrated cat whilst half naked makes them talented. They will never come close to the real talent of yesteryear.

  • still got it on 7" single :D

  • Oh wow, haven't heard this in years, and it still gives me goosebumps! What a fantastic voice! Love you Midge, you still rock my world!

  • What a big voice !!! Haven't heard this song for a long time, but it touches straight again... !!! Thanks for loading with the video!!!

  • Greetings from Holland.

    Whát a voice ...

  • Its on the Ministry Of Sound 3CD in HMV just checked

  • No Regrets -- The Scottish Version?? Brilliant **

  • i just got bought the new electric 80's cd and I have to say this was the song that brought back all the 80's memories , forgotten how good it is , classic

  • @10madsam

I think that CD was playing in HMV - is it a 3CD set with this on the first CD? I'm so glad they played it 'cause it brought me back to Midge & Ultravox - 2 brilliant acts.

  • I love him <3

  • jego głos niesie do nieba

  • ONE OF THE BEST HE SANG,TAKE ME BACK TO THE GOOD OLD TIMES.80S

  • Great song and a pretty good version (prefer The Walker Brothers myself). And let's face it, the only way Midge Ure got away with walking through a room full of swinging roof lights without getting a good thump on the side of his head was because he is only 4 foot 6 tall. (Better guitar in this one tho, thanks Midge)

  • One of my alltime favourites Awesome version What a voice

  • X L ENT

  • just played this really loud, so haunting, what a voice, sung with such emotion, fab.

  • There are only a few people,in my opinion, who can look real good in black and Midge is one of them. He was and is soooooo HOT! The sexy gyration in this clip makes my heart(and a lot more) flutter. God was in a good mood when he created Midge Ure.

  • @MegaSmurf1212 good 4 u that u felt "something"

  • One of my faves! I always loved Midge Ure and Ultravox.

  • I loved this song the few times I heard it as a teenager. Haven't heard for a long time, still sounds great! Love those 80s synths. Thanks for posting.

  • gran tema de siempre

  • Does anyone know the female vocalist who did this in the "club version" of No Regrets during the 1980's ?? Thanks !!

  • better than the Walker brothers, for sure!

  • I Don't want you back @ 2:18.

    Just Brilliant!!!!

  • the dance move he does from 3:01 onwards, well i still do that move from time to time lol, classic 80`s move that one lol

  • If you like Walker Brothers covers in similar style, try this one: Dorian Gray - "Sjaj u tami"

  • boonersalmon

Yes, you could be right but....for a time he played with Thin Lizzy. There you go :)

  • from 50 to 57 seconds sounds like bowie ' sound and vision. 1.25 to 1.30 is like brian ferry, but no one probably cares what i think

  • Midge totally nailed it, fuckin outta this world!!

  • walker brothers sang it original

midge gave it a good shot tho

  • Sorry this song belongs to Scott Walker...

  • I thought it was Tom Rush who first sang it.

  • Yes. Thank you. Correct

  • What is the correct pronunciation for his last name? Anybody know?

  • Never seen the full video before - thanks for posting this!

  • Midge - be mine!

  • Excuse me, i meant Quartet, but Monument was better, too lol

  • Monument was better lol

  • David Gahan (Depeche Mode) if you are reading this (which of course you aren't but oh well) please do a duet with Midge. To hear your baritone with Midges' tenor would be the ultimate in vocals for me.

  • Awesome idea!

  • indeed

  • wszystkie piosenki ure"a sa super!!!!

  • Haven't heard this since my dog chewed up my single in 1983 - superb!

  • Superb cover

The bass and string synth lines are brilliant.

  • I love this song very much. and midge ure is a genius.

  • Having seen Midge several times from Ultravox in 1983 to last year solo, if i were a musician and he covered 1 of my songs I'd bow down and kiss his feet. The man is a GOD and an all round nice guy, Legend

  • James SPT, you're right on the spot with your comment. Nice work.

  • grimobo, ever heard of interpretation, covering a song is normally seen as a compliment. If you knew anything about this artist you would know that this is an homage to what he believes to be a fantastic song. Which I and alot of others think Midge has done fantastically. Open your mind to music and its variations and don't be so narrow minded.

  • If you like country music, you'll obviously dislike the synths and the brilliant eerie twist that Midge gave this song; but apart from that, what is it exactly that made you fly off the handle about this cover version?

  • Fantastic, beautiful song. I love the Scott Walker version too.

  • GREAT !!!!

  • what a wonderful song, saw midge last month, and as always he was superb, please give us more midge!

  • You and me both! I even bought myself a 'choose life' t-shirt a few months back!

  • The only thing Midge is regretting is that moustache. He was absolutely gorgeous without it.

  • why we always look at the outside of man,the shell?......there's much more!

  • Believe me, I appreciate Midge for more than just his looks. He's a great singer, one of the best from the 80's. I've just been watching his 2001 Rewind tour on DVD. If I was just interested in the 'outside shell' I wouldn't be watching him now he's old!

  • this is real music!.....ultravox and midge ure! i am obsesed of the 80's!

  • Ditto!

  • I just picked up an old Yamaha SS30 string synthesizer. It nails this song's synth sound PERFECTLY and I believe that's what he used on this track. A terrible decade for music, but a brilliant and criminally underrated/overlooked artist.

  • midge says "no regret", but he bloody does regret therefore his clumsy dancing, nobody can dance while in despair, great performance Midge, I love you :)

  • 2:30 onwards - that build up and instrumental are absofockinglutely incredible!

    Φ-Φ

    _Ü_

  • Fantastic sound production - shame the new musicians can't match its richness..

  • Love this solo effort. Not sure about the dance at around 3:05, though. Put a bit of life into it Midge. Oh, well! I suppose we all danced like that back then. Didn't we? With that tache he always reminds me of Flash Harry from the early St Trinian's films.

  • great cover

  • Midge.......A Lov You!!!!

  • Just saw Midge Ure on loose women, and thought well i remember vienna by ultravox, must have a look at what midge is doing now, and i am really into him, he has a beautiful voice. He is one of my favourites now. He said he has some music coming out, so am looking out for that.

  • I read about this in Midge's book "If I Was" (excellent BTW). He says he got 2 days of studio time for helping someone out, decided to record this, and mistakenly thought the Walker Brothers version had the big ending. Tells his manager he was "just messing about" - manager immediately jumps in a cab to Soho, sells the recording to Chrysalis for £5,000. Just like that!

  • an absolute classic reworked very well indeed ,but a singer the quality of midge ure could make anything sound good

  • what's the reason to mention p.gabriel? i don't think midge ure is on lower shelf, than mr gabriel

  • I agree...I like Mr Ure like a million times more than Mr Gabriel..:-)

  • yes, he's greatest, but mr. gabriel is absolutely amazing too, they do not collide

  • Classic cover, a rare gem that surpasses the original

  • respect for this cover

  • Love this song!

And respect for this man, allmost in Peter G. Level!!!

  • ME YOUTH!!!!!!

  • sat with Midge, jonh Cooper Clark and Lena Lovitch, reading the face, he was impassive even though he was the talk of the time, great train trip from Doncaster to Sheffield, he bought me a beer lol

  • One of my favourite songs of the era.

  • Decent cover

  • So damn sexy, Midge!

  • I totally agree!!!! sweet, sexy, midge!!!!

  • Midge Ure, great loved Ultravox as well! Ohhhhh Vienna!

  • i totally agree with trooner40, midge ure definately at his best

  • Fantastic cover...Love it!

  • The song was written by Tom Rush, not The Walker Brothers.

This is the best vocal track of this whole era, without a doubt.

  • great video and great version thanks

  • Hes dancing with tears in his eyes in that video

  • better quality mate. Takes me back to my teenage years. Thanks for posting this video

  • well, go listen to the walker brothers bar room version then.

  • I was a teen when this came out. I absolutely loved it. My dad went on about the Walker Bros version being so much better and I thought, "typical, you bald, irrelevant old fart - Midge's version is the ultimate".

Now my dad's dead and I check out a lot of covers on YouTube and generally end up dissing them - and I'm going bald into the bargain. The 'auld lad's got his revenge....

    Φ.Φ

    .Ü.

Thanks foxhusky for posting this wonderful song. ♪♫♪♫♪♪♫♫♪

  • Yeah well Midge is now old. So old is best! Walker version was goon in its post war dayz... The 70's/80's is what counts. You dont hear people covering glen miller these days, just about all the 70's and 80's is being done...

  • Very true, Cougari72 - though at the time, I would never would have believed it would happen.

Artists didn't seem so into doing cover versions in those days. True, they did the odd one, but covers were widely dismissed as being somewhat uncreative.

I think that's why this particular song by Midge was forgotten about for a while. So it's really good to hear it again!

  • You hit the nail on the head!

  • The 80s for all the criticism it gets was exceptional decade for music, but don't forget how many songs are also covered from the 60s. They may not go back to Glenn Miller, but the 60s is a hugely covered decade in music.

Personally I think the Irish Blues musician Don Baker did the best version, but it is one of those songs that you couldn't make crap if you tried.

  • well, listen to the Midge Ure live version then. He's done a respectable version of the original. Thats seldom done...

  • Quality !

  • Midge Ures version is amazing. This is such a good cover. To bad his recent music has been more or less terrible!

  • Midge Ure pisses all over the limp Walker Brothers version and turns this song into the classic it deserves to be. Perfect guitar and piano solos, respect!

  • lol

  • yep i agree

  • No regrets - 'cept perhaps for the tash!

Seriously though, one of those very few covers that surpass their originals. Class!

  • is it true midge could'nt hit the key on the piano hard enough so he had to get one of the crew to hit it for him on the end piece ?

  • and how do you know that

  • just one of the things you hear about and have to ask him

  • do you have a phone number for him

  • mobile or home ha ha

  • its true i have his mobile if interested

  • dont think he would be to happy about that

  • Yes I read that in an interview with him. He plays everything except the bangin piano.

  • Gee wiz! I've bought this on a 7" single way back in 1982....and haven't seen the video, until a few minutes ago! Thanks mate!

  • Amazing! WOW I forgot about this song, it's as good as Vienna.
