  • I work with a few kids in their early twenties who claim to be Dead Heads and although Im thrilled that the music lives on, its a shame that theyll never experience what we did at those shows.....Steve Thompson aka Big Von

  • Loved that Greek Theater back drop. Swam a few laps in there over the 3 days. Peace!

  • @FRANCECHILD Hey bro, yer bein a dipsh*t, put down the bong kid........

  • this is you tube why even post this

  • robots...

  • Anybody who needs to argue about anything relative to the Dead: STFU!!!!!!!!!

  • @Kramyam1368 ....

  • This is my favorite version of Althea. I know there are many good ones but for me personally this is life changing. Jerry is so on point that it is crazy, speaking through the guitar very clearly.

  • @vincentonstott Agreed bro! Friggin CLASSIC!!!!!

  • fuckin amazing, take a strip and press play

  • @JGraf1992 you are my fucking dude and i dont even know you

  • 83, the beginning of Jerry's first real dark period leading up to the coma in 86 though 83-85 is when he was wrestling the most w the demons. March of 85 when he got busted in the park is when he tried turning things around with chasing the dragon. This show you can still hear that his voice isn't completely ravaged yet. By 84/85 he sounds like Kermit the Frog and after the coma his voice dropped an octave and never could regain that sweet timber it once had.

  • iron matt....i really wieh all these dick heads would leave drugs out when they comment on the dead!!!!! we all use drugs!!!!! get over it!!!!!!!!!!

  • @49RonGuidry Bro' you should really not talk about things you know very, very little about.Maybe you should concentrate more on kermit the frog.

  • @coyote023 Uh...OK. Sorry I should have ran this by you first for approval. Next time I try to comment on things I know nothing about I'll send it to you first and you can proofread it for accuracy since you obviously have the final say on what transpired throughout Grateful Dead history and what sounds good or bad. I won't let it happen again.

  • @49RonGuidry Well if you want to comment on something don't you think you should have at least a little bit of truth in what you write. Settle down beavis.

  • @coyote023 I'm not sure I'm getting you. What's not truthful? If you feel Jerry's voice was better during the 80s than it was in the 70s then fine, that's your opinion. If you feel Jerry Garcia's health was not in decline in the mid 80s I'm speechless. If you really feel that way that's fine though I don't know how you could. And you seem to be the one lashing out at myself for being delusional. OK.

  • WERTHEEYESOFTHEWORLDPEACE

  • 83- 84; Jerry missed a lot lyrics during those years as well!

  • GD 1983 shows have long been sorely overlooked by many Deadheads, but not by me. There is a fire under this stuff that's a bit darker yet edgier and wicked like a kickass Halloween party is. The tours in 1983 and 1984 were peppered with killer music. The onset of the taper section apparently cut down the number of circulating SBDs and that has much to do with the lack of attention. This was a kickass show.

  • JERRYSOHIGHHENEHAVENLOVE

  • I had a dog, that I named Althea!

  • my first show ever. I have never been the same since

  • I wonder if anybody on earth has listened to this song more than me, dont have a good number, but every night here at OU, I heard it every night from soph to senior year. Made a few people around me crazy, always made me feel good. Still does. Late night air guitar solos are the best.

  • Thanks for sharing!! I love 80's Grateful Dead!! And 70's, 60's, 90's too, but especially the 80's.

  • goose bumps

  • that keyboard is creepin on in!

  • i love how this song cruises along

  • I just remembered those shirts when Jurassic park came out, "Jerry's Acid Park" LOL

  • Wow. This song started and a lightning storm started right after i pressed play. I love listening to the music and watching the lightning and music play off each other its so cool. They sync so well. <3 u GD. Thanks for uploading this.

  • Very wonderful, mellow kinda where I am at lately! Had been identifying in the idea of lacking in direction!

  • beautiful tone and delicate subtleties...great recording and version...nice picture too...

  • I was at this show and yes he was weary but great. This place is getting hot

  • Jerry Garcia was a great guy! That's all I got to say.

  • nice statement shawn, and nice bullfrogs jerry

  • Yes, the coma was 86. There are lots of shows where Jerry couldn't hit the high notes, before and after his medical problems.

  • to tell a story is an art to make someone feel it is a masterpiece

  • He literally got out of a diabetic Coma like a week before this. Some of this show is rough, because he can't hit those high vocals on this. This is a stellar show, for any starter boot collector get this show first because it shows how good these guys actually were. Garcia is the man still to this day. Sorry my opinion Jerry is the greatest of all time!

  • @dmholmes1 Wasn't the coma in 1986?

  • @wharfrat10 right it was...

  • @dmholmes1 Sorry bro but a week before this show we were down in greensboro nc. and then up to richmond va. then we went to hartford and then to the garden and wherever else [kinda burnt to remember all cities] and i will tell you jerry was in no diabetic coma b4 startin this tour. Scarlet>fire>estimated>eyes was a full 60 minutes plus before jerry took off his guitar at this hartford show 10/14/83. The night before this show was fucking great with or without the st. stephen after the drums.

  • to the point of recklessness

  • Oh Yea

  • Midwest veteran here..first show 78... this is a great cut ! well done!

  • i love letting people here this song with out teling them who is sing... then all of a sudden ther mind opens up....

  • @lastkidzintown i do the same thing...so many people hear that its a grateful dead song and shut it out because its "hippie music"

  • GRATEFUL DEAD ROCKS MY SOUL!

  • THis concert was Trey's first Dead show. He says he was more of a metal-head, ala Jethro, Zep, before this show. Esp considering that tGD were pretty hit or miss around this time, is it just a coinciden that he was in the building that night? I think not

For whatever reason it seems the Dead RIPPED it in Hartford more oft than not. Saw my first Phish there on 11 26 97, liked it but it took me prob two yrs to actually realize how sick that show really was, as i obv had no idea at the time...

  • that would of been sick to hit the road in the 80s and 90s must of been so easy compared to nowadays. it would be nice to just go on the road get the fuck out of here

  • This is the pacing of Althea

  • fav Altheas are from '82 & '83 IMO....peace in

  • @EvacuateTrailer

    me too bud.

  • still got my ticket stub ! $12.50, ahhh, the good ol' days . . .

  • @oldsouls so jealous! but i was only 3 years old

  • Thanks for the tune, man! It's a great mix & a grooooovy version.

  • lovin' '83 !! very hot east coast...thx
