Diane Lindsay wrote this song, sweet darlin' and she played Bass on this song. Diane is a consumate pianist. Her first instrument. Meg's voice and guitar are nice on this song but Diane Lindsay is the composer. Check out Lindsay in W.side of L.A. Carol-Lynn Fillet
First time I saw a live women's music concert it was Meg and Holly in Cleveland in 1976 or 77, looking just like they did in the last photo in this video. I had Meg's album "I Know You Know," but seeing them live was overwhelming. I cried through the entire concert. They sang this song and said it was about how women sometimes toy with each other's affections because we don't value each other enough. Politics on top of the art, you know. Still true and still a great song.
you never know just how much you have till its gone.......i thought you were always here with us forever....with others lined up that you love too.....
without this channel as a focus point...i wonder what will happen......
I love how many strong, beautiful, intelligent voices there are in the community . I think for many of us being a proud lesbian was made easier by the integrity , talent, conscientiousness , intellect and commitment of out artist. May they reap all the blessings they have sown . Peace.
As a young gay and political man I loved Meg Christian and longed for a gay male artist that could sing the words I wanted to hear. How I envied you Lesbians but Meg gave me great hope in a homophobic world. Thanks for posting
I will be here - Sweet Darlin Woman. The first song I ever heard of Megs. One of the BEST voices (and certainly messages) EVER! Formerly...megchristian channel
At 68 and after 11+ years at MI and NWMF I can say that Meg was the best of them all and certainly the best guitar player. She left a tremendous legacy with her music and that voice of hers. I, for selfish reasons, want her back on the stage. I know that she found her peace, her love and her life a long time ago and those of us lucky enough to have heard her in person cherish those moments. She was also very very funny onstage.
One picture missing from this slide show is that of Diane Lindsay, brilliant singer songwriter who wrote "Sweet Darlin' Woman"; a seminal song in the history of "women's music". Diane's playing, arranging and producing can be heard on many of the classic recordings of that era. She is still writing songs of the soul and is currently working on the third album of her music.
Great channel name! Everyone makes mistakes after this much time has passed I guess. Good News is there is still appreciation --even if rather late being expressed. Great Great Song. Thanks Diane.
68 yrs. old, lovely to hear you again. Michigan Women's Music Festival in the 70's, Take Back the Night memories, Getting sober l980, long lovely journey.
My goodness...thank you for posting this....i first saw Meg and Holly Near in concert in 78? 79?ish in Joplin MO. Never saw so many wimmin in my life...thought I'd died and gone to heaven...
Meg Christian--the top of the Lesbian Fab Four. Her music made me come alive, helped me come out, and kept me sane in early recovery from alcohol and drug addiction in the '80's. I played Meg's "Turning it Over" album 1000 times if once--September marked 25 years. sober for me. Thank you for the collage, and thanks to Meg for the millions of women, like me, to whom you gave a sense of pride, place, and purpose.
Me too, I just celebrated 22 years sober, and Meg's song about- going home to the south, it could have happened anywhere - really helped me come to terms with myself and my life.
this is the best women's song ever. i still get goose bumps listening to it. Meg, wherever you are, and whatever your name is now, know that this song was a big, big deal to a lot of us when we needed it.
@lislippiatt Yes... I guess you feel it was many years ago but to some (like me) it all feels so very new. YOU ARE ALL HERE TO STAY. Does that not make you feel so very good?
Dear Meg, February 14th seems so right ... *20,000* views.
Will you please be my valentine?
p.s. Also the comments are at 46. That was a good year!
