  • Happy 88th Slim :)

  • "Legendary" is a word that is used to describe every performer who ever appeared on a stage somewhere on this planet. But in Slim Whitman's case, the word legendary does fit: A simply legendary performer.

  • Tiny Tim

  • I remember this from childhood. I am now struck by how sections of it sound like Tiny .

  • This was No 1 in the Charts the Day I was born.

  • ♥ and my darling Mam could play the Hawaiian guitar too! ( played it in Rangoon, Burma)♪♫

For you Mam up in heaven now!♥ but always watching I know!♥

  • Born Ottis Dewey Whitman, Jr. on 20th January, 1924. For his contribution to the recording industry, Slim Whitman has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame at 1709 Vine Street. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum's Walkway of Stars in 1968.

This 1955 hit single "Rose Marie" held the Guinness World Record for the longest time at number 1

  • This hit by Slim Whitman was the third #1 song in the United Kingdom at the start of the Rock Era (July 9, 1955). It would stay at #1 for eleven weeks in the UK, becoming the longest reigning #1 song in the UK in this new era. Would anyone break it? We will see.

  • @indah007

interesting observation. and worlds apart. i love them both.

  • I think we might all be surprised to find out how many old vinyl collections have some Slim in 'em.

Slim was more or less one of a kind and he sold records...LOTS of records.

  • unique talent

  • slim whitman is a badass no doubt!!!!!

  • Slim was certainly big in the UK. I bought all his albums over a period of 50 years. Marje Morgan. Wrexham UK.

  • Must rank very highly amongst the great country singers of all time......Awesome talent...love the man MICK H ...ENGLAND

  • I grew up listening to Whitman. We lived on 600 acres of Missouri bottom land, poor as the dirt was rich. We didn't have power, running water, or even a phone until 1958. After that our family constantly played the old CW greats, Whitman, Reeves, and many others. My step dad was German. So Whitman was played the most because of the yodelling. An amazing man. He doesn't need the money, he must be doing for the love of it.

  • great video of slim whitman thanks for posting it

  • @bogancentral Andy Kaufman performed a version of this on Letterman, but its Whitman's

  • Elvis copied Slim's sideburns. They were performers together on the Louiisiana Hayride.

  • Wonderful, what a great talent. Never really got the acceptance he should have -- too may jealous country music stars I guess.

  • For the early original recordings by Slim and dozens of love songs, go to my

    Youtube -- 1horsesrcool

  • Left handed guitar

  • The Great Slim Whitman was born with the gift of a beautiful voice- thank goodness he shared it with us all. The greatest singer and a Legend in his lifetime. I have most of the 600 songs he recorded! Marje Morgan Wrexham North Wales Great Britain...And a member of the Slim Whitman Appreciation Society on Facebook...

  • I just really started listening to him last year- I wrote to him last summer, and he replied and gave me an autograph! Even in his retirement he's still a class act and does appreciate his fans! Some of today's "celebrities" should take a lesson from Slim and realize that it's the fans who put them where they are!

  • Great Gret Great this Slim Whitman.

  • @faustvaude : Easy sister...You wouldn't want your boyfriend to leave you.

  • A country song with simple lyrics, Performed by a Artist.

  • He makes it look it so easy. HE MAKES IT LOOK SO EASY! That, my friends, is brilliance.

  • @fraidy2008 we have a new page on facebook for slim it welcome to the slim whitman fan club in the usa and uk

  • @fraidy2008 YES!! Making it look "easy" is the mark of a true artist.

  • how could anyone hate this, it's beautiful

  • he sounds like Tiny Tim

  • bogancentral...............get a life? or come back when you a man, or go somewhere else, you didn't need to watch this?.................and who is andy ? something?now go and leave us alone DUDE.

  • @bogancentral I guess it's a toss-up now, whose version does one prefer, Whitman's or Kaufman's? Gotta admit, Kaufman had an amazing voice and did a spot-on impression (bizarre as it was).

  • @bogancentral No no no, you got it all wrong my friend. It is Andy Kaufman who ripped the idea for the sparkle suit from Slim. Slim = Talent, Kaufman = Dog Poop.

  • @bogancentral How dare you to refer to his as a DUDE he's Gentleman , go back to school !!!

  • @bogancentral ill think u will find this is the orginal!!!!

  • that is beautiful...

  • Listening to this takes me back to my own childhood. Dad has all of Slim Whitman's records. I always sat with my dad whenever he wanted to play them. Sooooo, I grew up to admire and love this singer not just because of his great songs but his vocal capability. Rose Marie has to be one of my favourites and then I discovered there was the film. Thank you for posting this great song on You Tube.

so pure and honest....Slim may have been the greatest crooner of our time

no surprise that he sold over 100 million records

  • Pure Magical

  • I don't know how strong he is going at 86, but yes he still lives ... and still in Florida, his birthplace. I believe he is rocking on a porch outside of Gainesville. George Harrison was influenced to play guitar by this gentleman.

  • Thanks for this video. It brings back memories of when I lived in Whitby, Ontario. I saw Slim Whitman live at the Civic Auditorium in Oshawa, Ontario..must have been in the 1970's. My sister's name is Rose Marie and she just happened to be visiting me at that time and we went to see him perform. He sang this song and i thought it was wonderful but she thought he was singing offkey. I guess he does vary the pitch.

  • Bless him...he's a wonderful singer and has unique arrangements of standard

favorites! Thanks to paulO for sharing this terrific video!

  • First of all stop down rating those folk's comments. They're getting them from the movie Mars Attacks which features the song Indian Love Call by Slim Whitman. They aren't offending anyone. Use your head.

He has a beautiful voice, I'm glad he's still alive.

  • @twiliger Aww good ol' Slim, what a Saint,

  • one of our realy great singers

  • stay in the motor home

  • Don't run, we are your friends.

  • Looks like John Cleese.

  • .......My Mum & Dad always used to play his cassettes along with Jim Reeves in the '70s. I always complained as a kid but this takes me back........

  • @redcelica67 Yes I relate,...my parents loved Slim, especially my aunt who was a WWII Navy nurse. When I was 8-10 yo I always had to listen to Addie Arnold and Faron Young,... somehow later in life it gets into your DNA.

  • I remember this song well for two reasons. Firstly, Slim Whitman's original recording of it appealed to me. I enjoyed the hint of echo in the recording. Secondly and highly embarrassing for me - I must've been about ten at the time and had a severe crush on one of the girls at our school. I 'adapted' the text of the song to her name and wrote my version on a piece of paper which my parents promptly found under my bed! The reaction? I couldn't live it down for years! Regards, Horatio Nelson

  • Are ther any more Live Videos of Slim Whitman out there,I have followed him since the early 50's,indead a great man. Alan Simpson

  • Slim 's singing was always a treat. We understood the words, and there was no profanity. Can't say that about many of the "singers" nowadays. Thank you.

  • I have always adored this man and his music I power of the lp and tape to the CD has brought his music to life thru ages. Slim is so blessed and so are we. ty for posting this video and for giving us out there the power to see thru the net.

  • great singer love slim whitman he was a one off !*******

  • From what I understand Johnny Cash admired MANY people in the music industry; it would not surprise me if Slim Whitman was one of them. Even if I care more for the deeper voices, no denying this man is loaded and I mean LOADED with talent.

  • well i like Johnny and June was the very best , but I think Slim was here frist I can't be to sure about that because I was't here back then ..

  • Johnny Cash is a dead drug addict - Freddy Fender is a has been. Slim is the king voice of this style. Say no more!

  • John & Freddy are both dead we're not to talk ill of the dead.

  • But they can't sue so it's ok.....he he he

  • Comment removed

  • Didnt Slim play a few Michael Jackson covertunes. He may as well, he's played everone elses

  • Weird isn't it? They take the p*ss about his falsetto voice but, had he been black they wouldn't! I refer hear to that iconic band with the high lead' The Chilites!' My view is, if you don't like it, then thats okay. Just move on and let those that do enjoy it! :-)

  • lp911, where were you raised and what do you have against the world, you're a sad sack....get off the internet...something is sure making you an unhappy person to have to talk lik a low class jerk and please keep your comments to yourself we don't need them about this find man. Whether you like him or not - we don't care and I'm sure Slim would only pity you.
