Fragments of precocious pyroclastic tantrum tossing. Kurt Cobain would have liked, "Sorrows line the oyster bar." William Blake could have written that.
Omar Khayyam, "But evermore came out of the same door as in I went." Lao Tzu, "The Tao that can be spoken is not the real Tao."
Neil Young, "I am a miner for a heart of gold." Conor Oberst, "I don't think that's true but I keep it for good luck."
Honestly, you don't get anywhere in Christianity if you don't ask the hard questions. I'd say the only reason that it seems so fake is that you're assuming there aren't any answers for them. It's not supposed to be a feel-good religion - Those of us who make it out to be so are, unfortunately, in for a bit of a shock.
As for the song, anyways, I love it! I feel like I've been waiting for you to write this song forever. You have me humming along (Despite my better judgment, perhaps). Good work.
@Skitkat101 Hmm, I didn't intend for this song to be a critique of Christianity. I don't know much about it to be honest. But yeah, I could see the song as a naive criticism of it. It's mostly just angry and pessimistic, and perhaps spitting at people who "take the easy way out." (Not that I feel this way, just my interpretation of the song.) Glad you like the song! :)
Maybe its because I've been readin Romatnic era poetry all weekend for exams, but your lyrics suggest that God is a cause of suffering, if he did exist. Cows don't realize that they suffer. Just like a fish doesn't realize that it's wet. In poetry that I've read, the notion of giving up the ignorant bliss of childhood gets mentioned. So, according to your lyrics, religion makes people grow up to be ignorant, but happy. --- I like it!-- If you find the truth let me know!
@tony77345 Thanks for your comment! That's and interesting interpretation. I hadn't thought that cows wouldn't realize they are suffering. Because they are simple, and realize that this is just the way things are? Suffering or not. But humans have the capacity to despair over suffering...true suffering... :) I kind of like it. As for the truth, I think I'm finally finding it in Buddhist philosophy. I find it to be pretty damn solid.
Finally a song for the forgotten cows. I'm gonna put this in the WIN column... still can't tell if it makes a lick of sense as a whole, but the tidbits of poetry are kinda deep... mysteriously persuasive. I think it's an omen about absent empathy. Am I right? Ahh, how would you know... also sounds a bit LSD-induced, but you don't do drugs, so perhaps XML-induced? SQL? PHP? I dig the tempo changes, but ya know what I really like... the structure seems so...
Ahhh... now how am I supposed to review a song in less than 500 characters.. seriously! As I was saying, the structure seems so... structureless... freeform... uninhibited... very avant garde of you... frisky but with conviction... wildchild... rebelrockgirl... I'm just making up words now... sounds somewhere between THE DOORS and the band, LIVE... yet absolutely inimitable. Well, you rock Cris ...hope my little review made at least as much sense as the song. Rock on...
@Balboa515 Haha, I always love your comments. :D I don't know, dream induced I guess. I wrote most of it while my drawing students were working in class one day. I probably looked weird, bobbing my head and mouthing lyrics, haha. I don't know that it makes total sense...parts of it are desperately contradictory. And it ends in pure despair. I think overall it's just a really angry song about growing up to realize you're surrounded by bullshit. Lovely! :)
