I sweat many of Ronnie's games back at Charlie's Billiards in Norwalk in the mid 60's and he was absolutely the coolest guy in the world and a monster One Pocket player. He was more fun to watch play than anyone on the planet, and he had the heart of a Polar Bear. What a gentleman for sure and a legend of a player to anyone that ever knew him or watched him play! I was pretty young and I worked across the street (EMS) but he would share his knowledge with me like the real Champ that he was!
Grady has some great stories about Ronnie. One goes like this. He is playing one hole and has gotten into a major jam. The stake horse is looking nervous. Ronnie pipes up, "Don't worry. I've gotten out of 1000 jams like this." Then Ronnie makes some sort of power shot and moves all the balls near his hole. He turns to the stake horse and says, "Make that 1001." If you ever get Grady aside, he will tell you all the best stories.
Ronnies one of my all time favorite players to talk to, tells it the way it was { is } I watched him one time at a tournament and he wasn't doing well and people were being goofy and I started talking to him and trying to get him into the game , he ended up winning and thanked me for being nice. showed me several great moves as a payback.
yea i met him friday night at a lil tournament he was very irratating and rude cuz he didnt like APA rules and that i put him in him the losers bracket. I respect his pool playing abilities but thats it... At least I can say i beat one of the best one pocket players in the world..
APA is for wannabe pool players anyway. If I was him I'd be bitching too... was the tournament handicapped? if so how much did he have to spot you in order for you to be able to say " I beat one ot he best one pocket players in the world" BTW Ronnie USED to be THE BEST not "one of" but that was many years ago. But if you want to bet it up I'm sure he'll give you a game...
Ronnie Allen used to be the best one pocket player in the world like back in the days.......and 9-ball to and played really good for the cash. And he one of the loudest player in the world, him and bucktooth!nice clip of a living legend!thanks
