  • Any tips for a 3 min sprint?

  • what is the intensity of the record !!!

  • @HornyStud247 The overall time was 1:16

the 1:24 was the rate he pulled on that last stroke

  • chicken legs

  • RESPECT.

  • Holy shit! RES

  • Is this a 1m24 or a 1m16 it is not obvious from the clip or the time viewed at the end.?

  • your going to blow a disc very soon

  • nice man!!! my 500m split atm the moment is like 1:42 lol- one day...

  • I can give you an advice for free.I am nearly 10 yr older than Darness see our push up contest on my videos also the 3 min boxing video .I advise about 30 min cardio Ie run every day.Don't take any notice if you like I am rank number 1 at 4min rowing and number 2 is 15m behind me don't take my word for it check Concept 2 my name is Phillip Cameron.

  • i think the guy in the back with the green is leaning wayyyy to much and using very little legs. bad techniqueeee hes gonna mess up his lower back

  • I did a 2k recently at xfit and ruptured a disk in my back....remember proper technique and be careful

  • @GooDog6 Sorry to hear about your back. Too bad you werent at Hoboken we may have been able to save you. Words of wisdom, "Technique then intensity" not the other way around.

  • @Craig868686 Thx Do you have any tips for technique? My crossfit trainer was watching and thought I was correct. Looking at the videos, I see bending at the waist which puts stress on lumbar and I always keep knees straight until bar passes. Maybe at 38 years old, I just need to slow down. A 5k row when I hadn't rowed in a month was a huge jump despite proper stretching and I think proper form?

  • what should a 5ft. 11 16 yr old. who weighs 63 kg get in a 2k?? ps.. i get serious ergblock :P

  • @h1bB0ilzZ perhaps around 7 mins

  • @h1bB0ilzZ haha im 5'11" 16 years old and 131 lbs! i just started rowing tho so i dont know a good 2k erg time :P

  • @karkrashful wow ur light...:P just wighed myself im 64.5 kg and 6 ft.... (thats 142.2 lbs)

  • i feel bad for your back

  • lol dude in thr green id caning it... btw to mr crossfit ur a quite a beast! 1:08 fr 45 secs is surely competition level

  • Yea the best ive seen for 500 was a 1:19 but still you definetly have the power and the hiehgt... the form was bad tho but then again, ergs dont float

  • @GetStencilD Not to mention with the technique these guys are using it would be about 3 strokes before the oar hit their knees and they went ass over tea kettle into the water :)

  • Aight so this comment is for everyone to beat up on this guys form, lets see u try this and see what u get, and he obviously does not row so he probably doenst need all of ur unwanted comments on how to have " proper technique"

  • the guys closest to the camera is missing half of his slide. he could be going faster....

  • If you do that then you're rushing the slide and will put a lot of check in the boat. 3.) I know you're pulling for the fastest time, but you don't want to throw your shoulders around and slam the handle into your stomach. Rowing has to be smooth and controlled while powerful. You may pull hard, but if you have poor form then it doesn't matter how hard you pull. The power is there, now just fix some things and you're good.

  • 1.) Don't pull into your waist. You want to pull up towards the base of your sternum. 2.) The process of rowing is legs, back, arms. Then out the opposite way you came in, arms, back, then legs. You bend your legs before your hands get over your knees. In a boat your oar would hit your knee and smack the water throwing the set off. Also once you set your body angle forward from the finish you should never lean any further forward.

  • you are rating way too low...

  • Love the form

  • No they can't, that is a ridiculous comment. Check the Concept 2 ranking for 500m, only one person in the world has rowed a faster 500 this year.

  • ohhhhhhh my god. i'm in pain and I'm not even doing it. GOOD JOB

  • well anyone can row that low when they have a lot of mass to pull it out of them

  • great technique..

  • @zhangman92792 Please say me that is sarcasm.

  • @teewoods thats idiotic

  • This is pretty amazing your quite the athlete. Most olympic rowers cant do that over 500m

  • Do you have your resistance all the way up at 10 here? I am new to rowing as well, but very hooked at the moment.

  • well let your hands pass your knees and then bend your knees.

  • wow his form blows, definitely not a rower.

oh and btw bend your knees only when your hands pass over them, and come up like a foot and a half more at the catch

  • @lawlsdude dude shut the hell up he just destroyed an erg. Im a rower and my 500m pb is 1:16.7 and 2k is 6:06 and im sick a tired of rowers putting people who are stronger at rowing than them down because of their lack of form. This is very impressive

  • @AxelPRC lol i was responding to other people who thought his form was good... i gave constructive criticism but first let the other people know not to follow this guys form. chill.

  • these are probably two pussy ass foot ball players

  • omfg . horrible technique ! you must love rowing to be god . rowing is pain , paxion .

  • ergs dont float

  • @rohangiga your an idiot hes not a rower. dont put him down just because he can out muscle you on a erg

  • @AxelPRC who are you to give a fuck

  • @rohangiga a person who is pissed off a rowers who dismiss other peoples accomplishments on a rowing machine just because their form is bad

  • its annoying how its better to be tall

  • @kmitch92 excuses. I know a 3 time u23 world champ heavyweight who is 5ft 10 and 80kg

  • @AxelPRC i've been told. I'll train harder

  • horrible compression horrible technique

  • I think when youre sprinting like that it doesnt even matter.

  • put it this way- if everyone in an 8 did that the boat would capsize. it tremendously offsets the boat

  • Ohh by the way am just 5'3 122 lbs ok

  • Hi just want to know how does that work, or what do I have to?! Is it by wait division, please let me know, beacuse am sure I could break the record if is pound for pound.

  • wow your a beast you should train for 2k you should be able to go faster than 6:40 i could do that when i was 15

  • Hey guys, appreciate the kind words. Your correct in saying that my power would be laughable if I attempted to continue this for 2k. There is no way I could maintain that. My 2k is around 6:40. I'm pretty sure you need to be closer to 6:00 to be a 2k rower. I am not a rower really and could use the help so any advice is more than welcome.

If you were interested I pulled 1:08 for about 45 seconds and then the battery acid set in.

  • I'm 6'8", hold some collegiate ergometer records, and the lowest split I've ever physically pulled (nevermind sustained) was 1:18 ... so if you're doing 1:08 for 45 seconds you are a formidable specimen indeed.

  • or an eat arse

  • holy shit is that actually the lowest split you have pulled ive gotten down to 1:08 but i have a good balance cos my 2k is 6:12

  • i guess its hard to get the rating up when you are 6ft 8

  • Hmm, forgot I already had a youtube account ... zax19791979 is also me. In any case, I watched your video again ... and frankly I'm even more flabbergasted that you pulled this off, because frankly you have a lot of room for improvement in erging-for-time technique (never mind on-the-water rowing).

I'll post as many notes as I can given youtube's horrid comment system:

  • 1) You're using less than half of your leg slide ... some people will advise taking a "shallower" stroke when doing a 500m sprint, and i don't disagree with them, but you can easily incorporate more leg drive. Shoot for at least getting your shins vertical.

  • 2) By the time your arms kick in in the rowing stroke, you've already got the wheel spinning about as fast as you need to, so you stand to gain little by cutting your stroke short. Try ripping the handle into about your nipple area instead of your bellybutton (after you're done with legs and back of course).

  • actually, im not sure im explaining the physics of this correctly ... in any case, try pulling the handle in higher up and all the way to your chest, and see if the wheel doesn't feel lighter after the recovery when you go to engage your legs

  • You can do way better than 6:40 for a 2k ... I'm quite certain you can break 6:00 for a 2k (5:46 is my PR). I don't know how much of a priority this is for you, but with a little more practice you could be doing some serious damage at the crash-b's.

The only things standing in your way are the efficiency of your technique, and psychology. What I mean by psychology is learning that, as much as your body will try to convince you otherwise, you will not, in fact die on the erg.

  • @zsalwass You just claimed the world record as your PR. Good one.

  • @IsleyNumber1 Why wouldn't you bother to look up the world record for a 2k before you try to snark me? (It's 5:36.6, in case you're interested.)

  • @zsalwass you row on a national team or something dipshit

  • @zsalwass MY ARSE HOLE you can pull a 5 46 2k ;)

  • @CrossFitHoboken I'd retest if I were you. I pull a 1:26 or so for 500 m in season (lightweight), and my corresponding 2k is 6:40. For your 2k start at 1:35 for the first thousand, hold 1:38 for the third 500 and then give it hell like you did here. That'll put you in the 6:10-20 range.

  • @CrossFitHoboken I seriously doubt your power would be "laughable" if you did a 2k. I was a college rower myself. If you trained to row for a while I bet you could get under 6 minutes for a 2k unless your natural capacity for endurance is relatively very low. That sort of time is national caliber.

  • @CrossFitHoboken it doesn't matter what your time is on an erg. rowing on water is nothing like an erg, period.

  • That being said, his form is atrocious (and he could probably find another second or two if he improved it), and I've seen quite a few guys cross the 500m mark in a 2k sprint somewhere around 1:20 ... and they never win. I don't know where this observation fits in with the overall aims of Crossfit, but it seems like there's a stark biological contrast between ~6 minutes of maximum output and ~90 seconds of maximum output.

  • Former "on the water" rower here -- and aspiring Crossfitter ... just a couple of notes (not trying to be a hater) ... the screen at the end of the video says 1:24 on the split, so if he finished in 1:16 ... well, damn he must have been down near 1:10 for the first half. From someone who has turned in a couple of legendary performances on an ergometer, congratulations! That is a truly staggering display of human horsepower.

  • Much respect. I have a video on here (kmunson007) where I'm rowing 500 for a PR as well. I got 1:17.6 this past September. I don't expect to ever row faster than that time - just getting too long in the tooth :~). Again - massive respect as I know exactly what it takes to row that kind of a time. And boy, wait till the "real on-the-water rowers" see it, be prepared for some hateful comments but don't let them bother you - this is greatness! I bet you can squat 315 for a good 16-18 reps??
